Chapter 121: Alaric back home.

Standing in front of the cocoon, Alaric observed the scene before him in a calm manner.

The girls were more than shocked to see him. Their eyes bubbled up as if about to be in tears.

Ava was no exception; her lips trembled, trying to form words, but her heart could not let her.

Was this real?

Is Alaric really the one she sees right now?

With a smile on her face, Laura uttered—

"Welcome back, Master; we have been waiting for your return."

Then she fell to her knees, as did the rest.

Alaric didn’t say a word; instead, he focused his attention on the goddess of death who was staring back at him.

"You woke up earlier than I expected. I guess it’s expected from someone like you. Even if I had not released your soul, it would still pose a problem for me later on. So you need not thank me."

She spoke ever so stoically.

"Where is she?" Alaric asked, almost as if he was asking himself that question.

All of a sudden, no one could understand the words that left his mouth. Like a different language, one that no one had heard before.

"You speak of the goddess of creation?"

"Where is she?"

All Ava and the rest could do was lie there and watch as Alaric communicated with the goddess. Words far from what they could understand.

"So you do speak of her. Interesting. She didn’t tell you either.

"Once a soul has been destroyed, it becomes a means of energy to fuel my domain. That is exactly what my world is, a domain of dead souls. A soul dead cannot be revived as it has become one with my world. The only way to revive a soul is to replace it with another."

Alaric’s mouth slightly opened, but no words were heard.

"The goddess of creation chose to sacrifice her soul in exchange for your revival.

"We gods are concepts in nature; while she cannot die, without a godly soul, she will simply remain a concept without a body."

"I see."

Alaric began to move forward.

"If you are saddened by her death, I suggest you wait a hundred years more; she will be reborn as a new soul."

Before Hefrina could say anything else, Alaric got close to her, giving her an unexpected hug.

While Hefrina maintained a stoic expression on her face, her cheeks were still oddly red.

"That’s all I need to know. She is still alive, good," Alaric whispered.

"That is true."

"Does the same apply to the Devourer god?"

"Yes."

Alaric hugged her even tighter.

To him, he felt he was embracing Satella in that moment.

For a good minute, he remained there, hugging her while the others watched.

Satisfied, Alaric finally moved back, his hands resting on both her shoulders.

"If you ever need my help, you can call for me. I promise I’ll come running."

Hefrina looked to the side.

"You said that back then too."

"Sorry?"

"I understand. If the time ever comes when I need your assistance, you, Barbetos, will be the first to know. Is this supposed to be you trying to pay me back for bringing you to life?"

"No. This is me compensating you for your hard work. And also, so I can ask you not to kill my friends in the process... they are not bad people."

Hefrina sighed.

"As you wish. I shall let them go."

"Good. I appreciate it."

"You can go back to sleep now. I can feel your hands trembling on my shoulder."

Alaric chuckled after hearing that.

But right after, he fell to the ground, unconscious and tired.

...

Baaak!

The glass plate dropped on the ground, her hand covering her mouth as she watched Aurora make her way towards the mansion while carrying Alaric.

Kika stood there, frozen in shock from the sight before her.

Though she wasn’t the only one; Erica, Chris, Rashin, and many other workers in the Montclair household ran outside the moment they heard Alaric had returned.

Mind you, none of them knew his soul was back. All they knew was the son of the Montclair family had returned home after years of being away.

"We are back, Milady, My Lord," Ava stood at the very front, her eyes still red from crying too much.

Kika couldn’t say anything; she knew if she spoke, she would most likely tear up. So instead, she clung to her husband, allowing him to take charge of the situation.

Seeing as Alaric was unconscious in Aurora’s arms, they already expected the worst. Ava must have failed to convince the goddess of death to bring his soul back.

And yet... a bit of hope still clung to their chests.

"Is my son..." Rashin paused; he didn’t want to be the one to cry in front of his family.

Erica, on the other hand, seemed to be calm, trying to be more mature than her age.

But then... Ava replied...

"The goddess agreed to our terms. The young master’s soul has been returned to his body."

Hearing those words leave her mouth, everyone immediately had the look of total speechlessness on their faces.

Alaric was alive?

"W...wait, are you saying?" Rashin took a step forward. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"Yes. The young master has been revived. We did it."

Erica fell to her knees, her tough act slipping at the news. She cried her eyes out, the pent-up frustration she had been holding on to for years finally catching up to her.

Kika, on the other hand, took slow, steady steps towards Alaric.

Close enough, she first rubbed her hand on his head, and then... she smiled, though the tears still ran down her cheeks.

"Welcome back, my son..." she whispered, "I can’t even be mad at you anymore. You were really selfish, you know that? Any one of us would have helped you."

She took a deep breath.

"It doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you’re back with me. Hmm, yes, nothing else matters."

Kika now looked at Aurora.

"Please take him to his room. He needs to rest."
