Rejected: A love story-Chapter 33: Don’t try to seduce my boyfriend
Pov- Narrator’s Pov
Nathan was halfway through buttoning his shirt when a knock came on the door.
"You know you don’t have to knock," he said casually, not looking up.
The door opened. "Hey, baby." The voice made him freeze. Nathan looked up slowly. Natasha stood there with a knowing smirk, arms crossed, eyes roaming his body like she owned the place.
"What are you doing here?" His tone turned cold instantly. She chuckled softly and stepped inside, closing the door behind her.
"You always liked it when I called you baby."
"That was a long time ago," he said flatly. "Stay where you are." Instead, she walked closer.
"You’re still angry?" she asked gently.
"Nathan, that was eight years ago. We were kids. Don’t I deserve at least a little forgiveness?"
He turned away, tightening the last button on his shirt. "You love mixing things up, Natasha. We were teenagers then. I’m an adult now. And I don’t give a damn about you anymore."
She flinched, then softened her expression immediately. "I never stopped thinking about you," she whispered. "Not once."
She reached for him, her fingers brushing his arm. Nathan shoved her away without hesitation. She fell back onto the bed, more dramatic than hurt.
"Stay the hell away from me," he warned. "I won’t say it again." For a second, she stayed quiet. Then her eyes filled with tears.
"You promised me things Nathan," she said, her voice trembling. "You said you’d protect me. That you’d love me forever. You said we’d get married when we were older, so tell me is it my fault I’m still inlove with you?"
She stood up slowly, closing the distance again. This time, Nathan didn’t push her away.
She rested her head lightly against his chest, her shoulders shaking as if she were crying. Her fingers curled into his shirt.
"You loved me," she murmured. "You really did." For a moment, Nathan didn’t move. Old memories stirred. A younger version of himself and promises made without knowing how heavy words could become. Natasha lifted her face up, studying him.
His eyes were distant but still handsome as always. She rose on her toes and kissed him. Just then, Fiona’s face flashed through his mind.
He remembered the night she cried, her shaking voice and the promise he’d made to never hurt her again.
Nathan shoved Natasha away hard. "Never try that again," he snapped. "Never." He grabbed his keys and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
Down the hallway, Fiona stood frozen, watching him leave with anger written all over his face. Her heart skipped. What just happened? She stepped back quickly, hiding behind the wall as footsteps approached. The door opened again. Natasha walked out slowly, her lips curved in a satisfied smile. She didn’t see Fiona.
Fiona’s POV
I stayed where I was long after Nathan disappeared down the hallway, the slam of his door echoed in my head. He had looked... furious. Not just annoyed or stressed. Angy in a way that made my chest tighten.
I replayed his face over and over, wondering what could’ve pushed him that far. Had we argued without me realizing it? Did I say something wrong earlier? And then I remembered Natasha walking out of his room, smiling.
The thought made my stomach sink. I shook my head. No. Nathan wouldn’t. He wouldn’t do that to me. Still... the doubt crept in, unwelcome and sharp.
By the time dinner was announced, my appetite was gone. Everyone was already seated when I arrived. Mr and Mrs Keith, Caleb, Hannah and Natasha. The only empty seat was Nathan’s.
I sat quietly, folding my hands on my lap.Throughout dinner, Natasha kept glancing at me, not openly. Just quick looks paired with that small, smug smile she always wore when she thought she had the upper hand. I ignored her.
"Is Nathan still out?" Gabriel finally asked.
Hannah nodded. "Yeah. He left angry. I don’t know why."
Mrs Keith turned to me gently. "Did you two fight?"
I looked up immediately. "No, Nathan and I don’t fight. We argue sometimes, but never like that." Gabriel smiled at me, clearly pleased with my answer. "Good."
Minutes later, footsteps approached and Nathan walked in. He looked calm now, but the tension hadn’t left him. He took the seat beside me.
"Sorry I’m late," he said.
No one questioned him, his parents exchanged a look, silently deciding not to push. We began eating again, Nathan barely touched his food. I noticed, just then Natasha spoke.
"Some people still forget to clean up after old habits," she said with a soft chuckle, her eyes flicking to Nathan’s collar. Nathan froze and I followed her gaze.
There was a faint lipstick stain on his collar, barely there... but there. Nathan looked at me, clearly not expecting it, his expression unreadable. I looked back at Natasha then I smiled and turned to her calmly.
"Next time," I said sweetly, "don’t try to seduce my boyfriend. It’s embarrassing."
She tried to act innocent. "What do you mean Fiona"? I felt everyone’s gaze on me. "Did you suddenly go deaf after kissing Nathan"?
The table went silent. Caleb blinked. "Wait. You and Natasha kissed?" Nathan’s head snapped toward me. I continued, my voice steady.
"Correction.... she kissed him. He didn’t kiss her back, he left angry."
Caleb stared between them. "Natasha kissed you?" Nathan opened his mouth, then closed it. I turned fully to Natasha.
"You thought he’d kiss you back," I said quietly. "That the past would suddenly matter and you’d crawl back into his bed?" Natasha’s smile faded.
Mrs Keith gasped. "Natasha!" Gabriel’s expression hardened. "That’s completely inappropriate." Hannah shook her head in disbelief. "In this house?"
"I—I was just talking," Natasha stammered. "No," I said, still calm. "You were crossing boundaries Natasha." Nathan looked at me now, stunned. I met his gaze briefly, then looked away. Gabriel spoke firmly. "Natasha, you owe Fiona an apology."
Natasha’s face reddened as she muttered an apology, her eyes darting between me and Nathan. The tension lingered, but I kept my composure, my focus on Nathan, who seemed to be studying me with newfound curiosity.
The rest of the dinner was awkward, with forced conversation. As soon as it ended, Nathan stood up and followed me out of the dining room.
"Fiona, wait," he called, catching up to me in the hallway. I turned to face him, my heart still racing from the earlier encounter.
"What happened back there?" he asked, his eyes searching mine. I raised an eyebrow. "You don’t know?" He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I mean, I know what happened, but how did you know what actually happened " I crossed my arms, trying to appear nonchalant despite the turmoil inside. "
"I only guessed, seeing the way you left your room angrily. When she pointed at the lipstick stain i just fixed the puzzle. End of story." Nathan’s gaze lingered on mine, as if searching for something more.
I raised an eyebrow, my voice barely above a whisper. "I mean that’s if I’m correct, you wouldn’t cheat on me now boyfriend. Would you?" He took a step closer, his voice low. " I need to tell you something." My heart skipped a beat as he closed the distance between us. "First you have to change that shirt and wash her scent off you... I don’t want to taste her when kissing my man" I smirked and turned heading upstairs, where did that courage come from? Did I just flirt with Nathan?
