Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 319 - 317: You Know Me So Well, So I Must Punish You
Xue Yang turned back to Lin Xi and said earnestly, "That’s right. Just tell me what kind of decorating style you like."
He looked very much like a lion king declaring his status.
With one simple sentence, he had seized the initiative. Xue Yang had to admire how he was getting better and better at this. The second floor could indeed be renovated or left as is. However, his mother’s words had hit the nail on the head. If he decorated the second floor to Lin Xi’s taste, she wouldn’t feel out of place when she came home with him in the future.
After hanging up the video call, Lin Xi narrowed her eyes and stared at Xue Yang, making him a little uneasy.
Suddenly, Lin Xi broke into a wide smile. "You did that on purpose, didn’t you?"
"Did what on purpose?" Xue Yang asked, feigning ignorance.
"You purposely didn’t want me to chat with your auntie, right? Afraid I’d steal her away from you?"
"You’re right," Xue Yang said, a hint of grievance in his voice. "Who can blame me? My girlfriend is so charming that my mother, who is usually so picky, can’t stop praising her. She doesn’t even want her ’excellent’ son anymore, just a daughter-in-law."
Lin Xi laughed heartily at Xue Yang’s expression. "That’s not it. You just don’t want to learn my preferences through your mom. You want to decorate the place we’ll live in the future with your own two hands."
How could she not guess what he was really thinking? She loved watching him try to hide things, only for her to see right through his adorable embarrassment. It was especially cute now that he had a new hairstyle. It gave off a vibe that was a mix of a playful puppy and a cool wolf. Honestly, it made her want to pounce on him.
Being with Xue Yang, Lin Xi constantly felt the urge to pounce on him. Unfortunately, his self-control was unbelievably strong. If she hadn’t tested it herself, she might have even suspected... Ahem. If Xue Yang knew what was going through her mind right now, Lin Xi was sure she wouldn’t be getting off easy tonight.
Hearing Lin Xi’s words, Xue Yang smiled faintly. This girl really sees right through me.
"As punishment for knowing me so well, I’ve decided to take full responsibility for the second-floor renovation."
Lin Xi tilted her head up and asked blankly, "Then what am I responsible for?"
"You’re responsible for studying hard."
Lin Xi pouted, and just as she was about to protest, Xue Yang placed a slender finger on her lips.
"Listen to me on this."
Nothing was more important than her college entrance exams.
Lin Xi blinked, looking like a Barbie doll—so cute you couldn’t help but want to take a bite.
After the workers finished placing everything and said goodbye to Xue Yang, they left. With their help, the move was incomparably faster than last time. The two of them had barely lifted a finger, moving into their new place with "ease."
The once-spacious new home now felt a bit cramped with the arrival of all their things. However, the crew they hired included a professional organizer, so overall, it didn’t look much different than their old place. The biggest change was that the whole house had gained a lively atmosphere. It was the presence of Xue Yang and Lin Xi that had breathed new life into the place. Like a spring breeze had passed through, it was now filled with vitality.
One of the secondary bedrooms had already been converted into a walk-in closet. Their clothes hung inside in neat order, separated by men’s and women’s, making it easy to pick out an outfit at a glance.
The other secondary bedroom was decorated in a light-blue minimalist style, where Si Wen’s computer now sat quietly.
The master bedroom was just as spacious as when they first viewed the apartment. The view from the floor-to-ceiling windows was beautiful. Xue Yang and Lin Xi stood there, snuggled together, watching the streetlights below gradually flicker on as night fell.
The bustling, traffic-filled streets began to light up. Among the myriad lights of the city, the light from apartment 1213 in Tongfang Residential District was a romance that belonged only to them.
"Xue Yang, to celebrate our move, let’s have hot pot tonight."
They had hot pot the last time they moved, too. Lin Xi remembered that Xue Yang’s homemade hot pot was nearly as good as any restaurant’s. Most importantly, she loved the time they spent in the kitchen, working together.
"Okay."
Having decided on dinner, the two went downstairs to the nearest supermarket to buy ingredients. An hour later, Xue Yang returned home carrying two bags of groceries. Lin Xi followed behind him with a bag of fruit, her high ponytail swinging with her every movement, a perfect display of her vibrant energy.
The new kitchen was significantly larger than the old one. It had two sinks, allowing them to stand side-by-side and wash vegetables. One tall, one short; one in black, one in white. One wore a black apron, the other a pink one. The cheerful sound of running water echoed through the house, seeming to form a touching love song that cheered on the young couple who had just moved into their new home.
Getting into the rhythm of her task, Lin Xi began to hum softly.
"I’d pick an apple and wait for you to pass my door, just to place it in your hand and quench your thirst."
Hearing her, Xue Yang joined in.
"Like cola in summer, like cocoa in winter, you’re the right person at the right time."
Lin Xi continued, "We’ve already promised to spend next weekend together. Your every little mood means the world to me..."
The two hummed along, alternating lines. Lin Xi sang the male part, and Xue Yang sang the female part. Despite the gender swap, it didn’t feel out of place at all. Sometimes, they would sing in the song’s original order. Although their voices couldn’t compare to professional singers, their a cappella performance was better than most.
The sounds of singing, running water, and washing vegetables swirled through the house, celebrating and composing a romantic tune uniquely their own.
An hour later, the hot pot broth was ready. They just had to wait for it to boil before they could add the ingredients and start eating.
Holding her chopsticks, Lin Xi could already feel her stomach growling with anticipation. "I really do love the feeling of having hot pot with you at home. This is pure bliss."
This is what a meal should feel like, right? Not being alone in a huge house, at a large dining table covered in delicacies, with only yourself for company.
Xue Yang smiled as he looked at his Xiao Naimao. Her cheeks were flushed pink from the steam as she waited eagerly to be fed. He loved this feeling, too. Eating out was convenient, but it could never compare to the process of making a delicious meal at home with family and loved ones, and then enjoying it together. Isn’t this what life is all about?
"The water’s boiling! Can we eat now?"
"We can eat."
Hearing that they could eat, Lin Xi eagerly stood up. She first ladled a bowl of the rich broth for Xue Yang, then another for herself. After adding a few more ingredients to the pot, she sat down to enjoy her soup while the rest of the food cooked.
This was a method Xue Yang had taught her: for the first part of a hot pot meal, you drink the soup first before adding more ingredients. Otherwise, adding too much later would spoil the broth’s original, delicate flavor.
