Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 86: Why Do You Have to Go After Us Again and Again?
"Not a single person in this family is any good." Annabelle didn’t even spare him a glance as she scoffed, "You’re both two of a kind. It takes two to tango. You’re both just freeloaders, so who are you to talk!"
"You!" Mr. Yates’s face turned livid, and he raised his hand to slap her.
Just as the hand was about to fall, Annabelle watched him without a trace of fear. With a subtle movement, she easily dodged the slap.
"President Yates, we have a long road ahead of us. Did you think you could just slap me and get away with it for free? Did you think there would be no consequences?"
Mr. Yates immediately fell silent.
His company was in the crucial process of going public. The rumors about the Linton Family’s collapse were unreliable, and Annabelle was both the eldest daughter of the Linton Family and the Young Madam of the Grant Family. He truly had nothing to gain from slapping her.
’In reality, Vivian Yates’s family didn’t have much money. The Yates Family of today could, at best, be considered nouveau riche. They had only managed to make a fortune and become wealthy by riding the Grant Family’s coattails, all thanks to Vivian’s friendship with Leona Grant.’
’And the only reason Vivian Yates had been able to grow up alongside Leona Grant was due to the close friendship between Mrs. Yates and Roxanne Jennings.’
’When it came to money, the truly wealthy families were the Lintons and the Grants. They were, without a doubt, the most prominent and established families in Lynton. If they weren’t, the two of them would never have had a marriage contract in the first place.’
’But then, the Linton Family fell. The Yates Family, however, only climbed higher, their business expanding until Vivian became Lynton’s premier socialite. And I? I was reduced to a mere backdrop, my life getting worse by the day.’
’Despite my high status, Leona Grant still didn’t like me.’
’Instead, he protected and cared for the daughter of a nouveau riche family. That alone was enough to prove his feelings for Vivian Yates.’
’But now, I don’t care anymore. Whether those two get together has nothing to do with me, and I couldn’t care less if Leona Grant is actually in love with Vivian Yates.’
"Mrs. Yates?"
Annabelle looked at Mrs. Yates, unwilling to let the matter drop so easily. "Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?"
"I was just telling it like it is! You want an explanation? There isn’t one! You’re an out-and-out bitch!"
Seeing her mother’s face flush with anger, Vivian’s eyes narrowed.
’Judging by Annabelle’s fire today, they wouldn’t win an argument with her about the past.’
’Besides, bringing it up wouldn’t do her any good.’
A crafty glint flashed in Vivian’s eyes. Feigning weakness, she cried out, "That’s enough! How long are you going to keep arguing? Annabelle, why must you be so relentless?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"My mom was just speaking as a mother. She can’t bear to see her daughter get hurt, so she spoke without thinking. Why do you have to keep hounding us like this? Whatever it is I’ve done wrong, just tell me. I’ll apologize. I’ll even get on my knees and beg. Please, just let us go, won’t you?"
She finished with two weak coughs, looking as if she were about to collapse. Leona Grant rushed to steady her.
Ashley Grant was utterly disgusted. She was about to charge forward and give them a piece of her mind when Annabelle held her back.
Annabelle sneered. "The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! You’ve really shown me the meaning of ’like mother, like daughter.’ And what’s this about *me* not letting *you* go? Who was the one slinging insults? Who was the one stirring up trouble? I, Annabelle Linton, have a clear conscience and nothing to hide. How did the officially wed Young Madam of the Grant Family suddenly become a ’home-wrecker’?"
