Chapter 292: Chapter 294 Whipping Ancestor, Spear Master (5/7)

"Cui Chong, do you own an estate in Yang City?" After a moment of contemplation, Wu Tian looked at Cui Chong.

Cui Chong smiled, already knowing what Wu Tian was about to ask. "It would be my honor, Mr. Wu Tian. I happen to have a house in Yang City that is perfect for recuperation."

Wu Tian nodded.

Being able to serve Wu Tian filled Cui Chong with genuine joy. Xiao Liang, on the other hand, just snorted, clearly jealous. Cui Chong shot Xiao Liang a provocative glance, his eyes seeming to ask: *So what? I get to serve Mr. Wu Tian, and you don’t. Jealous?*

Xiao Liang simply rolled his eyes, not bothering to engage with the old man.

Zhou Weimou watched this scene unfold, so shocked he was at a loss for words.

Xiao Liang and Cui Chong hailed from the Xiao Family of Lanling and the Cui Family of Qinghe, respectively. Countless people envied their lofty status. In the hearts of most, they were untouchable figures. Who would have thought they would ever be seen vying with one another for the chance to serve a single person?

Not even the Sword Emperor or the Monarch would be worthy of such eagerness from these two, right?

Suddenly, a thought struck Zhou Weimou, and his expression changed dramatically. The Monarch had once called him, mentioning that the Sword Emperor had summoned the other Seven Saints of Dragon Country to Yang City to deal with Wu Tian. He had said that when the time came, the Seven Saints would require Zhou Weimou’s cooperation. The Monarch hoped that Zhou Weimou would provide minor assistance but refrain from injuring or killing anyone.

The Monarch sat on the supreme throne of the Four Seas as the ruler of Dragon Country. He was certainly no fool.

After discussing the matter with Ye Tianshi, Zhou Weimou came to suspect that the Sword Emperor harbored treasonous ambitions. Zhou Weimou found it impossible to believe the Monarch was unaware. Yet, the Monarch hadn’t said a single word about it.

Why would that be?

Zhou Weimou couldn’t begin to fathom the minds of those who played the game of politics.

Suddenly, he felt his communicator vibrate in his pocket. This was not a commercially available phone but a military-grade device. Very few people had the means to contact him this way, and the device rarely activated unless there was a matter of great importance.

He stepped aside and answered it. A masculine, middle-aged man’s voice came through. "I am the Gun Sovereign!"

Then another voice, sinister and terrifying, announced, "I am the Whip Ancestor!"

The Gun Sovereign and the Whip Ancestor! Ranked third and fourth among the Seven Saints of Dragon Country.

"Is there something you need my help with?" Zhou Weimou asked, recalling the Monarch’s instructions.

"We are outside Xia Qian’s herbal medicine company," the Whip Ancestor said, his tone as cold as a command. "Deploy soldiers to block off the surrounding streets. We are about to take action that will cause a significant commotion. Make sure no one approaches the area."

The Whip Ancestor was a man of the Jianghu, while Zhou Weimou was one of the Four Great Generals of the military. What right did the Whip Ancestor have to speak to him in such a manner? But at that moment, Zhou Weimou had no time to dwell on such slights, as something far more important seized his thoughts.

Xia Qian? The Gun Sovereign and the Whip Ancestor are targeting Xia Qian instead of confronting Wu Tian directly? What are they planning? Are they trying to capture her to threaten Wu Tian? Or are they after the herbal company’s assets? Or perhaps both?

In the Land of the South, everyone now knew of Xia Qian and her herbal medicine company. Her herbal facial masks were a sensation in the South and had become bestsellers nationwide. People used to say that masks from Korea were superior, but Dragon Country’s herbal masks were now powerful competitors. Not only that, but promotions for a new Elixir, said to be connected to the herbal company, had recently flooded apps like QQ and WeChat. It was something only the wealthy could afford.

The herbal medicine company was poised to become a true dragon. It was only a matter of time.

Furthermore, Zhou Weimou recalled the relationship between Xia Qian and Wu Tian...

At that thought, a cold sweat instantly beaded on his forehead.

A past comment from Ye Tianshi had first alerted Zhou Weimou, making him suspicious of the Seven Saints of Dragon Country.

The Seven Saints established schools to educate poor children, but why were those schools completely sealed off from the public? They were boarding schools, and once students were enrolled, they couldn’t leave until graduation. Consequently, it was said that most of the attendees were orphans. The factories established by the Seven Saints were similarly impenetrable, their inner workings a complete mystery to the outside world.

With the Monarch’s prior command, Zhou Weimou was bound to obey. But the thought of Wu Tian’s terrifying power... even for a battle-hardened man like him, it made his scalp tingle. "Don’t you dare make a move, do you hear me?" he said urgently into the communicator.

"What?"

On the other end, the Whip Ancestor, his face perpetually sinister and pale, was taken aback for a second before his voice turned violent. "Marshal Zhou Weimou, my great General, you of all people should know that a soldier cannot afford to be merciful. I assume the Monarch told you that if we asked for a small favor, you were required to help."

"Perhaps you find our methods despicable," the Whip Ancestor sneered, licking his lips. "But let me tell you, if we acquire the herbal company, think of how many poor youths across the nation will see their lives improved? For the sake of the greater good, we must unfortunately inconvenience Miss Xia Qian. It is a necessary evil."

His tone was brimming with absolute confidence. It was said that among the Seven Saints, the Whip Ancestor had the most extensive education, being a graduate of Shuimu University. He figured that anyone who could capture even a sliver of the Sword Emperor’s attention, like Wu Tian, must be somewhat capable, which was why he had brought the Gun Sovereign along. In his eyes, the plan was foolproof.

"Hurry up. Otherwise, I won’t care if there are civilians around when I make my move. If they get caught in the crossfire, heh, that will be on you." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

As soon as he finished speaking, the Whip Ancestor disconnected the call, giving Zhou Weimou no chance to reply.

"Bastard!" Zhou Weimou seethed, almost mad with rage. He certainly understood the principle that kindness has no place in commanding an army.

He wanted to stop the Whip Ancestor not out of mercy, but because Wu Tian was terrifying. Nor did he find the Whip Ancestor’s methods particularly despicable. For a soldier, any means that led to victory was acceptable. In battle, commanders carry the trust of their soldiers on their shoulders. For the sake of their men, they could cast aside notions like "dignity" and "justice."

But he hadn’t expected the Whip Ancestor to be so impatient.

Thinking of Wu Tian’s potential wrath, the cold sweat on Zhou Weimou’s forehead grew heavier.

It’s over! The Whip Ancestor and the Gun Sovereign are about to make their move. If Wu Tian becomes enraged, what can be done?

With this thought, Zhou Weimou cast a wary glance at Wu Tian’s silhouette. He was a Marshal, a Great General in command of vast armies, but he had a gut feeling that Wu Tian was not someone who could be defeated by mortal numbers alone. This intuition had been key to his survival and rise through the ranks, from a common soldier to a General, and finally to a Marshal.

Sighing, Zhou Weimou steeled himself, gritted his teeth, and walked over to Wu Tian. Without hesitation, he said, "Mr. Wu Tian, there is something I must tell you."

"I already know," Wu Tian said, his tone placid.

His words, however, made Zhou Weimou freeze.
