Return With the Billionaire Baby Daddy-Chapter 138: Samuel was the culprit
The next day...
Hannah had just woken up at 9 am, after a sleepless night filled with confusion over not being able to sleep, constantly thinking about Samuel. She didn’t know how to fall asleep quickly, and with no entertainment like TV, and her phone still confiscated by the police, she felt lost.
"Oh my God... I think last night was the worst night of my life. No phone, no husband, no TV, and unable to sleep... And now I’m hungry!" she exclaimed in frustration, staring at the ceiling of the room, imagining moments with Samuel before he left for work. "Why didn’t you come back? Why? Are you never going to come back? But why... Is it because you’re truly guilty so you chose to run away before the police catch you?" She wondered, increasingly confused, frustrated, but also a little sad.
"Lucky me, I didn’t love you too much..." She sighed heavily, then sat up.
The woman yawned, quickly covering it with her hand and looking around.
"Now what do I do? How do I survive if he’s never coming back? I can’t possibly ask Valerie for money, it’s too embarrassing... No no, not possible." She shook her head and shifted her gaze to her stomach. "Maybe I can look for a job at a store or restaurant... Before my belly gets any bigger. There’s no other way..."
She got out of bed, went to the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth, then applied natural makeup and changed into a blue suit with a long black robe, then switched to white shoes with black laces.
"Oh my God, I’m so hungry," she said in annoyance, clutching her stomach.
After getting ready, she immediately left the room with a blue bag in hand, heading to the kitchen. But as she reached the doorway, her attention was diverted by the sound of the doorbell.
"Okay, could it be him coming back? But it couldn’t be him... If it was him, he could just come in without ringing the bell!" she said in frustration, then opened the door.
"It’s you," she said when she saw that the person at the door was the unfamiliar girl who had brought food for her the night before.
"Good morning," said Anya.
"Yeah, good morning..." Hannah focused on the large light brown paper bag Anya was carrying. ’Does she want to give me food again?’
"I finally came just in time before you left," Anya said, observing Hannah’s appearance. "I think you’re about to leave."
"Yes..." Hannah nodded. "I have to look for a job."
"Why?"
"Because I have to work to make ends meet."
"Um... For now, you don’t need to work because someone has already provided this for you." Anya handed the paper bag to Hannah.
Hannah accepted it and peeked inside to find several food boxes, but on top of them was a sum of money neatly arranged. She immediately took the money and looked at Anya with astonishment.
"I don’t understand why someone would do this for me and who is he, actually? Can you just tell me!"
Anya shook her head.
"Sorry, I can’t. But one day you will know who he is... Just keep going here... If you want to know who he is, one day he will come," Anya explained calmly, then held Hannah’s arm. "Don’t worry... He’s not a bad person."
"But..."
"Don’t worry..." Anya stopped Hannah. "Now I have to go, I have to work."
Hannah just stayed silent, swallowing her saliva, bewildered, looking at Anya who walked back to her motorcycle parked in the yard.
"Who is that man? Why is he so caring about me and knows that I’m in trouble? Or maybe he’s Samuel but he’s afraid to come back here because he’s guilty and afraid the police will catch him. So he can only show attention to me from afar?" She wondered, then decided to go back inside to store the food in the cupboard, then took one portion to eat immediately.
Just as she was eating chicken legs at home, suddenly the doorbell rang again. She quickly walked to the living room, opened the door, and saw that the ones who came were two policemen, instantly making her nervous, worried that this would be about Samuel.
"We want to meet your husband," said one of the policemen.
"He didn’t come back after going to the office yesterday afternoon," Hannah replied with a worried look. "And I don’t know where he is because we didn’t communicate..."
"Are you sure you don’t know his whereabouts?"
Hannah just shook her head.
"Do you know his friend’s house or places he often visits?"
"I don’t know, because we haven’t lived in this city for long."
The policeman sighed heavily, then glanced at his colleague who immediately handed his phone to Hannah.
"I can only give you this phone, while your husband’s phone is still confiscated because inside it proves that he instructed his friend to pay a man to beat Mr. McCourtney in Carson City," said the other policeman. "If you’re wondering why he hasn’t come back, he’s trying to escape... Please let us know if you see him return because he’s a dangerous man," he continued.
Hannah just stayed silent, nervous, and nodded.
The policemen left, and Hannah immediately felt suffocated, unable to hold back her tears.
"So, he did that... He didn’t appreciate my efforts to free him and instead caused trouble again with Damian... He’s really stupid!" she exclaimed in frustration, then shook her head. "No, Actually, I’m the stupid one... I shouldn’t have ever freed him... Now I’m even more messed up... I’m out of money, I don’t dare to ask for help from Valerie and Damian... I didn’t think I could be this foolish!"
...
Valerie had returned to the hospital and immediately approached Damian who was enjoying the morning air in the park with Hans.
"Honey," she greeted.
Damian immediately welcomed her, letting Valerie kiss his right and left cheeks, then his lips. After that, she sat down in the chair.
"Hans," she said.
"Ma’am." Hans just nodded with a thin smile.
"Thank you for accompanying my husband last night... I’m sure he must have troubled you by asking to be taken to the toilet," Valerie said with a smile.
"Eduardo helped me, Hans even slept on the couch," Damian replied, glancing at the embarrassed Hans. "Last night was really bad, I almost couldn’t sleep."
"Really?"
"Yeah...."
"Such a pity..."
Valerie approached Damian, then hugged him for a moment, then kissed him.
"Don’t be sad," she said, then sat back down.
"How can I not be sad? I hate my condition... And the worst part is I can’t get revenge on that damn guy!" Damian said in frustration, remembering the muscular man who beat him. "Now I’m sure, he must be just a hired thug... But who ordered him if not Samuel?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.
"There are policemen," Hans said, looking in another direction.
Damian and Valerie’s attention turned to the policemen entering the park, then walking towards them.
"Perhaps they will inform us about the investigation results," Valerie said, standing up.
Damian remained silent until the two police officers arrived in front of him.
"Mr. McCourtney," the policeman greeted casually. "How are you doing? Are you feeling better now?" he asked.
"Yeah... as you can see, I’m like a useless man," Damian replied with a faint smile. "Of course, I want to be better than this... and I want that man to be arrested," he continued.
"We managed to apprehend him at an airport, then we took him to the police station for interrogation. And he confessed that the man who ordered him to beat you up was a guy named Lucas, not because he was upset with you about his mother-in-law," the policeman explained, looking at Damian who stared at him seriously.
"We’ve managed to arrest Lucas... At Samuel’s old apartment," another policeman said.
"Samuel’s old apartment?" Valerie furrowed her brow. "Is he a new resident or..."
"Samuel ordered him," the policeman clarified.
"Damn it!" Damian clenched his fists immediately, while Valerie slumped back into her seat as if drained. "Why doesn’t he ever stop bothering me? That damn bastard. He should rot in jail!"
"If only Hannah hadn’t set him free," Valerie muttered, causing Hans to look at her seriously. "I don’t understand her motive. Does she know about this? Or is she even involved?"
"I don’t think she knows," Hans replied.
"Hannah indeed doesn’t know," the policeman chimed in. "The police team in Arizona has investigated both her and Samuel, she’s not involved, whereas Samuel was found to have transactions with Lucas. But unfortunately, we haven’t been able to arrest Samuel because he fled before the police could prove his involvement," he continued.
"Oh shit!" Damian exclaimed in frustration, looking up at the policeman. "Sir, you have to catch him. Never let him be free again. He’s a dangerous man, he’ll always make me and my wife suffer!"
"We’re doing our best... We’ll try to apprehend him as soon as possible."
"It has to be fast!" Damian insisted.
"Stay calm..." Valerie embraced him from the side and rubbed his arms.
"Alright then, we should go now," the policemen bid farewell.
Valerie nodded. "Thank you, Sir."
The police left, Hans and Valerie immediately led Damian back to the room, then helped him rest on the bed again.
"I still can’t believe why Hannah was so stupid to set him free, even with our money, and in the end, he caused trouble again... It’s like we’re getting unlucky with our own money!" Damian said in frustration, imagining Hannah’s face. "I regret giving her so much money..."
"But maybe she has her reasons..."
"Whatever her reasons are, I can’t accept it!" Damian asserted. "It seems like I have to interrogate her... She’s not declared guilty until the police don’t want to arrest her, but she won’t escape from me!"
"What are you going to do?" Valerie asked anxiously.
Damian instead looked at Hans. "Find Hannah in Arizona... You might be able to talk to the police to get information about her whereabouts. Force her to meet me!" he exclaimed.
"Yes, Sir." Hans nodded, then quickly left.
