Return With the Billionaire Baby Daddy-Chapter 145: Wrong target and Valerie’s fear
After almost 30 minutes of dozing off, Valerie finally woke up.
"Oh God, I shouldn’t have fallen asleep!" she exclaimed in annoyance, then sat up and massaged her stiff back.
She got up from the bed with her nightgown, then walked towards the bathroom adjacent to the dressing room. She cleaned herself up, always wearing a blue bra and underwear set and a black open-sleeved nightgown, then walked back to the main room.
"Why hasn’t Viviane brought breakfast for me yet?" She asked as she walked towards the vanity table.
"Oh my, I look so pale... I have to look fresh even though I’m always at home."
She quickly sat down, applied some sunscreen, let it dry, and proceeded with her makeup routine, but it didn’t make her look any better. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"Aghhh!"
A scream from outside startled her, followed by the sound of something crashing. The woman immediately panicked, got up from her chair, and hurriedly left the room.
Her eyes widened as she saw Hannah lying on the ground near the stairs, and a few seconds later, Hans came along with Viviane, rushing to help her.
"Oh God... Hannah..!" She screams in fear, stepping towards the stairs but nearly slipping on the beads. She quickly grabbed onto the railing.
"Oh my!" She panicked, shocked, holding on tight until she could stand again.
"Ma’am, don’t come down!" Viviane exclaimed, quickly walking towards Valerie. "It seems there’s something on the stairs!"
Valerie remained silent, her eyes fixed on Hannah, who remained unconscious, and then Hans immediately carried her.
"Hans, take her to the hospital!" She shouted.
Hans remained silent, hurriedly carrying Hannah towards the front door, occasionally glancing at her head, which continued to bleed from her forehead, with some parts of her face also scratched, and the worst part was blood flowing from the lower part of her body.
"You have to hang in there, Hannah. You have to hold on!"
"Stay there, Ma’am!" Viviane shouted.
Valerie felt weak, swallowing her saliva, and slowly sitting on the top step, but her gaze was empty, still haunted by Hannah’s condition.
"Oh God, why are there toy beads scattered here? This must be what caused Hannah to slip and fall!" Viviane stopped and looked at the beads before picking them up.
"Viviane!"
She stopped picking up the beads when she heard a shout from downstairs, immediately turned around, and found the security guard walking hurriedly towards her.
"What happened, what made Hannah slip?" the security guard, named Gustave asked, in a neat white uniform, combing his hair so neatly.
"I don’t know, but I found this..."
Viviane showed him the toy beads in her palm.
Gustav approached Vivian and took the toy beads, then glanced around the stairs.
"That belongs to Daniel, I bought it in Turkey," Valerie explained anxiously.
"I think something’s not right now, don’t touch those beads again. I’ll give them to the police," Gustave said, then focused on Valerie, who dared not move as if afraid of slipping. "Ma’am, will you wait for me to clean all this up, or shall I help you down?" He asked.
"Um... I’ll just go down," Valerie replied, then looked at Viviane. "Please take my phone from the room" she continued.
Viviane just nodded, then quickly walked upstairs and entered Valerie’s room while Valerie descended the stairs with Gustave’s help.
Arriving on the ground floor, Valerie sat on the single couch, watching Gustave collect the beads one by one using gloves and putting them into plastic bags, while Viviane cleaned up the broken glass and dishes scattered on the stairs and floor, even wet from milk, and croissants rolling on the ground.
"Oh God... What is this? It seems highly unlikely that these beads were already scattered before Damian crossed the stairs. Could it be that Daniel took his toys out of the room and dropped them like this? He must have crossed the stairs with Fanny but then after that, it was Damian who crossed... But Damian should have slipped... Not Hannah!" She said curiously.
"So, the last person to cross the stairs was Mr. McCourtney?" Gustave asked.
Valerie nodded because she didn’t know that Fanny was the last one to cross the stairs. Hmm, but Hans and Damian knew.
Gustave sighed, looking back at the stairs, imagining the possibilities before Hannah slipped.
"Why would Daniel take his toys out of the room before going to daycare? Has he ever taken toys before?" He asked while looking back at Valerie, who was five meters away.
Valerie immediately shook her head. "No, he’s not allowed to take toys to daycare... I’ve taught him to always play in his room. So he never took his toys out of the room, except when he wanted to bring his toys to my room," she explained.
"So it’s not his doing," Gustave replied, then picked up the plastic bag containing many toy beads he had collected. "I’ll take this to the police station... But I’ll check the CCTV first," he continued.
"Do you think there’s someone involved?"
"I can’t conclude... But considering Samuel who hasn’t been caught yet and your husband has experienced attacks, even kidnapping by herl, there’s a high possibility that he’s still trying to harm both of you because he’s still a Fugitive," Gustave explained worriedly.
"So, do you think he’s lurking around here?" Valerie asked fearfully. "If so, I can’t stay here anymore... maybe this mansion is no longer safe... I won’t feel safe until I know what happened!"
"Alright..." Gustave immediately took his phone out of his pants pocket, calling someone.
Valerie fell silent, continuously scared, then quickly took her phone from the table near the sofa and tried to call Damian.
"Damian?"
"Hey, Baby... I just arrived at the office, and it turns out my important visitor came, I have to go straight to my father’s room," Damian said from the phone, sounding rushed.
Valerie remained silent and looked at Viviane, who was still mopping the stairs and the floor dirty from spilled milk, even more tragically, the image of Hannah’s condition haunted her, making her worried, especially about her pregnancy, so she couldn’t hold back her tears from falling.
"Darling? Are you crying? Hey... Oh my God!" Damian sounded panicked. "What happened?"
"Hannah," Valerie said in a sob.
"What’s wrong with Hannah? Did you argue with her again? Do you not like her actions?"
"No... there’s no problem with that," Valerie said, wiping her tears that suddenly flowed because she cried. "But she fell down the stairs while bringing breakfast for me."
"What?" Damian sounded panicked now. "She fell down the stairs? How could that happen? Wasn’t she careful? Is she okay or ..."
"I don’t know, but one thing for sure she fainted and Hans immediately took her to the hospital. she slipped on the toy beads around the top step of the stairs. Those toy beads we bought in Turkey," Valerie explained.
"Wait... Wait... This is strange, when I crossed that staircase, there were no beads at all. Even though I was walking in a hurry, I didn’t slip!"
"That means you weren’t the last one to cross the stairs?" Valerie furrowed her brow. "Because the beads are so scattered around the staircase that I thought anyone passing by would slip. I almost slipped too, but I immediately held onto the railing... I thought you were the last one to cross the stairs, not Daniel... Besides, he never takes his toys out of his room."
"Well, of course not him!" Damian replied, sounding very serious. "It’s more likely he was one of the first to cross the stairs this morning. And I’m sure it wasn’t him who intentionally dropped those beads on the stairs... Because if that happened, then I would have slipped."
"Oh God... Then who did this?"
"Fanny," Damian said shortly.
"What?" Valerie narrowed her eyes.
"Daniel left the mansion with me first because Fanny was in Daniel’s room’s toilet. We waited for her in the car... Just a few minutes later, she came. So it’s most likely that she was the last one to cross the stairs and then Hannah... So maybe she’s the one who spread those beads there!"
"No no no... It can’t be Fanny who did it!" Valerie exclaimed in frustration. "She’s kind, and she’s never seemed suspicious of doing anything bad during her time here. How could you accuse her?"
"Because she was the last one to cross the stairs... And surely she already knew Daniel’s toys that could make people slip on the stairs."
"So you think she’s evil? Does she have a motive to do that? Could she possibly want me to fall down the stairs?" Valerie wondered impatiently. "What if it wasn’t her? What if after she went down the stairs, there was someone else who crossed the stairs? You have to remember, that Samuel is still out there... He could be an intruder here... Maybe he’s been spying on the mansion, maybe he knew I hadn’t left my room at all so he immediately scattered those toy marbles when he knew everyone on the upper floor had already gone down the stairs except for me!"
"Oh my God..."
"What if it was him who did it? That means he’s here now, I’m scared, I’m so scared! I also want to know Hannah’s condition right away!" Valerie cried again, so frustrated and frightened. "I’m in the living room now... I dare not go to another room... I’m afraid he’s here!"
"Wait, I’ll come home!" Damian replied, sounding very prompt.
The phone call was disconnected, Valerie sighed and looked at Gustave while Viviane had already left.
"I’ve called the police to immediately search all the rooms here," Gustave said.
Valerie just nodded. "Don’t leave, I’m scared."
"I’ll stay here."
