Return With the Billionaire Baby Daddy-Chapter 146: victims and alleged perpetrators
Damian got out of the car, then saw there were two police cars in the driveway, urging him to hurry into the mansion and dart around until he reached the living room.
"Honey..."
He was immediately greeted by Valerie, who hugged him tightly.
"It’s Okay, don’t worry," he whispered, embracing her wife and kissing her head. "I’m here now, don’t be afraid anymore."
"The police are searching, Gustave is also investigating the CCTV footage," Valerie replied through tears, releasing the hug. "Now we have to leave this place... I don’t want to be here. Maybe Samuel is here or even instructed someone malicious to be here and harm me!" she continued, frightened.
"I know, we’ll just go to my family’s mansion until the situation is completely safe, but I have to talk to the police now," Damian replied, then saw a police officer coming after checking one of the rooms.
"We didn’t find anything suspicious here," said the officer in black uniform. "The only evidence is the beads and also the CCTV footage but we’re waiting for information on what happened in the CCTV footage after you crossed the stairs," he continued.
Damian just nodded then led Valerie to sit on the sofa, then contacted his mother.
"Mom... Something bad happened at my mansion," he said once connected to his mother.
"What happened?" Elena sounded panicked.
"Hannah fell down the stairs while bringing breakfast to Valerie’s room. This could be deliberate as there were small beads scattered around the staircase surface that belonged to Daniel. Now the police are investigating, and Valerie is very scared. We’re worried if this is Samuel’s doing or maybe he’s still around here... So I want Valerie to be there," Damian explained anxiously.
"Oh God, that’s terrible. Bring your wife and child here... Don’t ever go back there until Samuel is truly arrested!" Elena replied.
"Yes, Mom... I’m waiting for the results of the CCTV footage examination now."
"How is Hannah?"
"I... I don’t know. She was immediately taken to the hospital by Hans... I’ll contact him now," Damian said, then ended the call. He switched to contacting Hans.
"Hans?"
Valerie immediately glanced at Damian mentioning Hans’s name.
"How is Hannah?" Damian asked.
"Very bad, she’s still unconscious... And the condition of her baby is very weak," Hans replied, sounding very sad. "Oh, wait... The doctor is coming to me," he continued.
The phone call was disconnected, Damian frowned, increasingly curious about Hannah’s condition.
"What’s wrong?" Valerie asked.
"I don’t know, but I have to say that Hannah’s condition is quite worrying, especially her baby. And suddenly he’s met by a doctor," Damian replied.
Valerie stood up immediately.
"Now let’s see her... I want to see her condition!" she exclaimed then pulled Damian to stand up.
"Alright..." Damian quickly pocketed his phone again, then walked towards the main door while embracing Valerie’s waist from the side.
Upon reaching the terrace, Damian met his driver, Jimmy, then asked him to pick up Daniel and instruct him to take him to his parents’ mansion. After that, he immediately took Valerie to the hospital where Hannah was being treated.
...
It only took about 15 minutes, and finally, Damian and Valerie arrived at the hospital. They hurriedly walked through the corridors towards the emergency room and saw Hans talking to a doctor.
"Hans!" Valerie released Damian’s hand and rushed towards Hans.
"Ma’am," Hans greeted, holding documents, looking at Valerie who looked very anxious and panicked. "Hannah... she needs to undergo surgery to... to deliver her baby," he continued anxiously.
"What?" Valerie’s eyes widened.
"The impact was so strong that her baby sustained some serious injuries and is weak, plus the condition of the mother who is also weak. The baby initially held on but not anymore, so we recommend delivering it through a cesarean section," the female doctor explained while looking at Valerie who was still shocked.
"So... Her baby passed away," Valerie whispered with her breath trembling, her gaze slowly drifting into a daze thinking about Hannah.
Suddenly her legs went weak, unable to support herself until Damian immediately caught her.
"Darling..." Damian quickly led Valerie to sit in a chair.
Valerie remained silent, her eyes watery, unable to hold back her tears, and immediately hugged Damian. She kept imagining Hannah, who was so unfortunate to be pregnant without Samuel’s support, then had to suffer because of Damian’s punishment and couldn’t get the freedom she wanted, even her relationship with her was still strained because she couldn’t forget the issue of him freeing Samuel.
"We’ve been too harsh on her all this time, and now she gets such a bitter reality. Oh God... She must feel so shattered. And maybe if I had crossed the stairs first, maybe she wouldn’t have fallen, maybe her baby wouldn’t have died!" she said then released her hug. "So... So, she’s the victim... When it should have been me!" she continued.
Damian shook his head.
"No one deserves to be a victim, neither you nor her. The culprit is the one who scattered those toy beads on the stairs!" he said softly but firmly. "Don’t blame yourself!"
Valerie sighed, still crying while Damian stood up again facing the doctor.
"Do your best for her. You don’t need approval from her husband or family because they’re not here for her... They’re just people who don’t care about her," he said.
"That means you have to sign these documents... Whatever happened, you have no right to demand anything from the hospital," the doctor replied.
Damian immediately took the document and then signed it.
Hans remained silent, imagining how when Hannah woke up knowing that she wasn’t pregnant anymore.
"This will surely devastate her," he said spontaneously.
"Hans," Valerie whispered.
Hans immediately looked at her.
"Please, you have to be there for her now. I know you care about her... Even though I’ll be there for her, I’m sure she needs a man who can accompany her through all of this because Samuel as her husband fled, or maybe he caused all of this," Valerie said anxiously.
"You don’t need to focus on work again but focus on her," Damian said, patting Hans’s shoulder. "I know that for the past few months, you’ve always cared for her, even though she disappointed you..."
Hans nodded.
"Don’t worry," he said.
Valerie sighed heavily, but suddenly her attention was drawn to Damian’s ringing phone. Her husband immediately took his phone and answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Mr. McCourtney, we have good news for you," a man on the phone said. "Samuel has surrendered... He was brought in by an older man and is now at the police station... He’s ready to continue serving his sentence and the trial process," he continued.
"I’ll be there," Damian replied, clenching his fist.
"Alright."
The call ended, Damian put away his phone and looked at Valerie.
"Samuel surrendered himself to the police station," he said.
"Really?" Valerie immediately stood up, while Hans furrowed his brows, looking surprised.
"I might not be able to beat him up, but at least I’ll give him one punch!" Damian said, clenching his jaw.
"Is it him who did this?" asked Hans. "I mean... Why would he do this if he’s eventually going to turn himself in?"
"Maybe it’s one of his tricks to get a lighter sentence... Or perhaps he thinks Valerie is in trouble and he feels satisfied, then turns himself in to get punished! Maybe that’s his goal... But he doesn’t know he’s mistaken!" Damian explained with theories that suddenly popped into his mind. "But maybe he doesn’t care, he never truly loved Hannah, he just played with her!"
"But Fanny was the last one to cross the stairs," Hans said anxiously. "And she’s the one who knows that Daniel has bead toys... Samuel couldn’t possibly know... Especially since he hasn’t been close to Daniel for a long time, and hasn’t even communicated with Hannah... And if he has indeed become an intruder, there might be signs on the CCTV," he continued.
Damian fell silent as if reluctantly believing that Hans’ words made sense. He picked up his phone again and called someone.
"Confusing, I’m really tired, and Hannah shouldn’t have to be a victim of people’s dislike towards me!" Valerie exclaimed irritably, glancing at Damian who was now sitting beside her, embracing her from the side as if comforting her while also on the phone.
"Hello, Gustave. Have you checked the CCTV?" Damian asked.
"Yes... There’s no sign of anyone breaking into the mansion," Gustave replied. "But suddenly the CCTV went off this morning, exactly at 6 am. So we can be sure that the perpetrator is someone who also lives in the mansion because there’s no indication of an intruder," he continued.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Sir. I’ve checked it multiple times with the police team."
"Did the CCTV in Daniel’s room also go off?" Damian asked anxiously. "The perpetrator must have gone in there to take Daniel’s bead toys."
"All the CCTV went off... But it seems like they were deliberately turned off, not because of malfunction."
"Oh my God..." Damian sighed, rubbing his forehead. "So... It makes perfect sense if the perpetrator is Fanny. Only she has access to come and go from Daniel’s room, and maybe even took the beads without our knowledge... She could be working for Samuel!"
"I don’t know, we should wait for the results of the fingerprint examination on those bead toys."
"Okay... But you should head to the daycare now. You have to act normal, but never let Fanny out of your sight. You have to always watch her movements," Damian instructed, then ended the call.
"What’s going on? Why did you ask him to investigate Fanny?" Valerie wondered.
