Chapter 158: Drama Queen

The next day...

Damian and Valerie were at a mall, specifically at a boutique that offered various baby supplies, as well as maternity clothes. Damian let his wife choose various baby clothes, while he was interested in picking up a blue-gray open-sleeved nightgown.

"Wow... This is perfect for her," he said with a faint smile, imagining Valerie’s beautiful body looking even more stunning in the nightgown, especially with her growing belly.

"Honey, I want this."

He immediately turned to Valerie, who came with a mini vanilla-colored suit with fluffy motifs.

"he’ll look so cute in this!" she exclaimed enthusiastically.

"You can take it, as much as you want," Damian replied casually, then remembering his choice of nightgown. "I have this for you," he continued with a smile.

Valerie smiled faintly, taking the nightgown after placing her chosen baby clothes on top of the neatly hung clothes.

"Wow, this is nice. But I think it’s too big," she said.

"It’s okay, besides your belly will keep growing. You’ll think it’s not big enough someday," Damian reassured her.

Valerie grinned, looking at the handsome Damian in his casual style in black pants and a blue sweater.

"Okay, I’ll try it on," she said, immediately taking the nightgown to the fitting room.

Damian took Valerie’s chosen baby clothes, then turned to look at the rack that offered various types of toys good for baby skills.

"Damian..."

A voice from the entrance caught his attention, making him turn around and find Tristan who had just arrived with Karina. He smiled faintly, slightly surprised that they were back in town after deciding to settle in Washington.

"Hey, Tristan... You’re here," he said.

Tristan smiled, then turned to Karina who also smiled sweetly, looking even more beautiful than usual in her red dress with her face wearing heavier makeup especially her lips with red lipstick.

"Karina... um, she wants to shop for baby supplies," he said.

"Oh..." Damian chuckled. "Valerie also suddenly wanted to buy baby clothes."

"Where is she?" Karina asked.

"She..." Damian immediately turned to the fitting room, just as Valerie came out already wearing her chosen nightgown. "Oh, she just wore my choice of nightgown." He smiled admiringly at Valerie.

Tristan fell silent, slowly smiling, unable to deny that Valerie was indeed attractive, and even more beautiful and maternal with her bulging belly.

’She’s getting more glamorous. Of course... She’s a rich woman now, not just a little writer,’ he thought.

Valerie approached Damian, but her gaze shifted to Tristan and Karina.

"Hey... You two? Since when have you been here?" She was immediately greeted with questions and enthusiastic smiles, and of course, she approached Karina and hugged her.

"We just arrived," Karina said after Valerie let go of her hug, then looked at her with admiration. "Your belly looks so big now... And this dress suits you perfectly!"

"I chose it for her," Damian said.

"Wow... Your taste is good," Karina replied, then positioned herself next to Tristan while Valerie stood next to Damian. ’If only Fanny hadn’t got the wrong target that day, maybe now she wouldn’t be pregnant anymore or even be in this world,’ she thought with annoyance.

"By the way, how’s Daniel?" Tristan asked.

"He’s fine, but lately he’s been disappointed because he doesn’t like the gender of his sibling," Damian replied with a chuckle.

"Really?"

"Yes... He doesn’t want a little brother," Valerie explained.

"Wow... So, you’re going to have another baby boy? That’s so cool!" Karina also pretended to be enthusiastic, very different from her feeling of annoyance because she didn’t like seeing their happiness.

They shopped for a while but didn’t get much because they kept chatting until they finally decided to be in a restaurant in the mall and order food.

"It’s been a long time since we heard about you, are you all okay?" Tristan asked, sitting next to Karina but a little apart, just as Damian sat next to Valerie but a little apart so he only focused on Damian while Valerie was facing Karina.

Damian sighed heavily, then shook his head with an anxious look and a faint smile.

"Too many unexpected circumstances," he said.

Tristan frowned, feeling that there was something serious now.

"After you and Karina got married, Valerie and I began again our usual activities... But suddenly I got attacked," Damian explained, then shrugged. "It didn’t seem like an attack because someone made me feel very angry."

"What?" Tristan looked confused.

"At that time, I was going home for lunch, but instead, I saw a man mistreating his mother-in-law so badly that my emotions got triggered and we fought," Damian explained with a faint smile. "And at that moment, I was badly injured... He stabbed me, twice."

"Twice?" Tristan widened his eyes.

"Yes, he stabbed my husband twice and it didn’t make sense if he didn’t have a purpose. But it turned out he was a henchman of Samuel," Valerie explained after eating a perfectly cooked steak and not too spicy.

"But wasn’t Samuel in jail?" Karina asked with a furrowed brow.

"He’s free because Hannah freed him. Turns out they had a relationship, and after Hannah accompanied us on our honeymoon, she got pregnant. She resigned and got a lot of money from us then used it to free Samuel even to marry him. But actually, she just wanted Samuel to accompany her because she wasn’t close to her family," Valerie explained anxiously, remembering Hannah’s fate. "She was very surprised when she found out that Samuel had ordered someone to harm Damian, even though she already believed that he had changed and had no more grudges..."

"Finally, we failed to catch Samuel again, but a few months later he surrendered to the police," Damian added.

Tristan sighed.

"Quite dramatic..."

"Hannah had a bad fate when we felt that we were safe... She lived with us, and it turned out that Daniel’s new nanny was someone who wanted to harm me so she put toy beads on the stairs maybe so that I would fall, but unfortunately, at that time Hannah passed the stairs first so she fell."

"Hannah fell?" Karina showed her surprise until their eyes turned to her.

Valerie nodded. "Finally her baby died."

"Oh God..." Karina covered her mouth, her eyes showing sadness. "She must be very disappointed... She was deceived by Samuel and then lost her baby... I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in her position."

"She was so broken, and honestly, it made me feel guilty," Valerie said, her face contorted.

"Hey... It’s not your fault." Karina looked at Valerie angrily. "You shouldn’t always blame yourself for something bad happening to someone."

Valerie nodded, her face contorted.

"But now Hannah has gotten better," Damian said after sipping his coffee, while Tristan enjoyed a croissant dipped in creamy latte. "She chose to divorce Samuel even though he was released from prison, and then Valerie asked her to stay in our mansion."

"He became my sister," Valerie added with a regretful look. "I tried to give her a better life, but it wouldn’t heal her wounds."

Tristan furrowed his brow. "Wait, you released him from prison? Are you serious about that? Do you think he won’t harm you again? What if he still holds a grudge against you?" He questioned, focusing on Damian.

"I’m sure he won’t," Damian replied casually.

"How can you be sure when you know he’s never felt remorse at all? He kidnapped Daniel, then hurt you, then hurt you again... How can you release someone like that?" Tristan asked in astonishment. "He’s always been the source of your relationship problems... Keeping you apart for 2 years until Daniel became a victim!"

"We did it because we didn’t want to be happy at his suffering," Damian said, leaning back on the black chair behind him, then crossing his arms. "If he keeps getting punished and feeling suffering, then he’ll keep holding a grudge against me. He’s already lost his freedom, then fell into poverty and lost his baby. I think that’s something very painful... I feel undeserving to punish him because I, who was previously his victim, feel fine now. So I think it’s all over... And he deserves to be free."

"I don’t want there to be constant conflict between us," Valerie added.

Tristan fell silent with concern, as if still unsure about Damian’s decision to release Samuel.

"Don’t worry, I released him with such heavy conditions that he wouldn’t dare to do anything bad to us again because the consequences are also severe," Damian said, then grabbed his coffee again.

"I hope he learns his lesson," Tristan replied, then glanced at Valerie. "But what about the case of Hannah falling down the stairs? Has Daniel’s nanny received appropriate punishment? And what was the motive for doing that to Valerie? Wasn’t she just a new nanny."

"Yes, Fanny was indeed just a new nanny, and I never scolded her or treated her too harshly, but I don’t know why she did that," Valerie shrugged.

"The police managed to identify her fingerprints on the scattered toy beads on the stairs. So, she was identified as the perpetrator... But unfortunately, she’s now in a coma in the hospital so the police can’t interrogate her..." Damian added.

"It’s very strange when she never had any issues with Valerie but tried to harm her... There might be someone instructing her," he said with a serious look until suddenly glancing at Karina. ’Valerie doesn’t have enemies anymore other than Samuel and her. Could it be that she’s the one who instructed Fanny?’
