Chapter 47: Disturbing lies

Dana was preparing breakfast with Leonne who was ready for school, but she was also talking to someone on the phone.

"This house is very lonely without you and Daniel," she said.

"Sorry, Mom... For now, I have to stay away from you...."I’m not ready to chat with Samuel or Mr McCourtney," replied Valerie from the phone. "I wasn’t ready to meet Damian either, but last night he suddenly came. I don’t know who told him about this house address....it makes me feel like it’s useless for me to hide because the person I’m avoiding the most already knows where I am," she continued, sounding frustrated.

"The person who bought the house was his mother, so maybe his mother told him... Moreover, his mother still seems to support your relationship."

"But I’ve asked her to keep this a secret..."

Dana smiled faintly, her eyes glanced at Leonne who was eating sausage dipped with mayonnaise and sauce.

."It’s hard to explain, but from his mother’s attitude, you should know that it will be difficult to hide from him if you are still close to his mother. But it’s not something wrong... It’s not a bad thing if you go back to him," she said, then went back to devouring the scrambled eggs.

"Oh, mom....I don’t want to talk about that!"

Dana chuckled. "Okay... It’s better to talk about your breakfast this morning. Is everything you need there?"

"Yes, but I haven’t bought milk for Daniel yet." Valerie sounded uneasy. "I had to teach him to get used to drinking formula because I had to stop breastfeeding him when he was two years old. I didn’t want him to lack nutrition."

"Stop breastfeeding him when he is 2.5 years old, that’s better," said Dana.

Bell rings.

"Oh, wait..." Dana heard the sound of the bell ringing and immediately stood up. "It looks like someone is coming. You call again later."

"Okay..."

Dana put her cell phone on the table, then walked out of the dining room, continuing across other rooms until she arrived in the living room and immediately opened it.

"Samuel."

Dana immediately frowned when she saw that the guest was Samuel, even carrying two small and large paper bags.

"Uh, Mrs. Dominguez," said Samuel, looking awkward. "I want to meet Valerie and Daniel. I brought breakfast for them," he continued.

"They’re not here."

"What?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"They’re gone," Dana explained, then looked away as if she couldn’t bear to see Samuel who would be disappointed. "Yesterday afternoon they went to Ontario, to my parents’ house, and will stay there for several months," she continued lying.

Samuel fell silent in disappointment, his face unable to hide his shock, even his breathing seemed labored.

’She left without telling me, how could she do that after all this time we were so close? Is this because she is avoiding me because she doesn’t love me? Is this because I’m not richer than Damian?’ he wondered to himself.

Dana looked back at Samuel who looked surprised.

"Samuel, I know you love her and have tried to make her happy all this time, but now is the time for you to understand that she can’t accept that anymore because she can’t reciprocate you, return your love," she said worriedly. "she wants to focus on herself....she needs peace," she continued.

Samuel nodded. "What did she say?" he asked.

"Nothing..." Dana shook her head. "She just wanted to be quiet, away from you or Damian. But I think this was also because she felt you were good to her not because of friendship, in the end, she wasn’t comfortable anymore... maybe she’s worried about hurting you because her feelings can’t be forced on you."

Samuel took a deep breath, then looked away but in his mind was Valerie.

’Am I so bad and disgusting that you don’t feel comfortable with me anymore. I think Damian is much worse, he’s a bastard, he even has fun with other girls when you’re not with him, whereas I’m always there for you...what do I lack for you!’ he grumbled in his heart?

"Don’t try to meet her, let her calm down," asked Dana.

"Okay, I won’t do anything else," replied Samuel, nodding, then lifted the paper bag. "This is just for you... I have to go to the office."

Dana immediately refused by pushing the paper bag away from her body. "Just give it to your friend at the office..maybe they haven’t had breakfast yet."

"Okay... No problem!" Samuel smiled with his eyes wide as if harboring anger. "I’m leaving..." He quickly left before Dana could respond.

Dana sighed, looking pityingly at Samuel who was walking towards his car which was parked near the road, but she immediately frowned when he approached the trash box.

"Oh my..." Dana covered her mouth with both hands when Samuel threw the two paper bags into the trash can. ’I think he was very disappointed and angry. Am I going too far? I just want Valerie to calm down... Besides, he was also wrong for hiding her from me!’

Samuel entered his car and immediately drove it at high speed without even putting on a seat belt.

"Fuck you, Valerie!" he exclaimed angrily, hitting the steering wheel. "how can you do this to me? It’s like an insult! You said you didn’t want to be with Damian, but you came back here, met him, even let him touch your body, then you accepted me, but now you let go and just throw me away... Who do you think you are? You are not the perfect queen!

I can even get a much better girl than you!" He continued to grumble as if he hated Valerie.

...

Dana re-entered the house and saw Leonne in the living room.

"Mommy going to meet your sister," she said rushing into the dining room.

Leonne was silent, immediately following her mother into the dining room.

"Valerie. Samuel just came, he seems very angry," said Dana worriedly, holding her cell phone to her right ear.

"Did you tell him I was leaving?" Valerie asked over the phone.

"Yeah....I warned him a little not to look for you... I just wanted him to know that you have the right to make your choice, not to be close to him, but he got angry, he threw away the food he was going to give you," explained Dana, occasionally seeing Leonne nearby. door.

"Just let it be..." Valerie sounded resigned. "I don’t want to constantly think about other people’s feelings... I want to be calm."

"Yes... That should be it. Besides, it would be wrong if you let him continue to approach you while you can’t reciprocate his feelings..one day he’ll be even hurt and angrier."

"Hmm... I want to have breakfast then take Daniel to daycare."

"Okay, be careful."

Dana ended the call, then fell silent anxiously.

’What if his anger could cause danger to Valerie? Maybe I should tell Damian.’ she glanced back at her cell phone. "But... But involving Damian will only cause new problems... Damian gets angry easily. He could end up beating Samuel."

Dana was confused, so worried about Valerie’s safety, especially now that she lived not far from her, it was very likely that Samuel could meet her by chance, and that would mean she would be caught lying.
