Chapter 64: Avoiding Karina

Damian is still at the hospital, taking care of Karina, who still looks weak and often has shortness of breath, prompting him to call the doctor. The situation seems urgent, but only he is accompanying her while her father is picking up her mother at the airport.

He feels restless, not getting any response from Valerie despite calling her several times.

’You must not be afraid... You must not change your mind. We will always be together with or without my father’s approval!’ He thought with frustration, his father’s face imagined by him.

The door opens.

Damian glances, finding his father coming with his mother. ’Looks like I can use them to take care of Karina. I have to meet Valerie,’ he thought, then stood up and welcomed them.

"Mom..."

Elena approaches Damian and then hugs him as they haven’t seen each other since he went to Korea with Valerie.

"Is everything okay?" she asks.

"I’m not sure," Damian murmurs, glancing at his father who is looking at Karina. "I have to go now, to meet Valerie," he continues softly.

Elena furrows her brow, wondering how Damian can meet Valerie without knowing her address.

"I have good news about our relationship, but I can’t tell now. We can talk at home or I’ll let you know through a message later," Damian whispers, then leaves without wanting to hear his mother’s response.

Darius immediately looks towards the door, then glances at the silent Elena, and approaches her.

"Where is he going?" he asks.

"Um... He... He’s hungry. He wants to eat outside," Elena replies nervously.

Darius eyes Elena suspiciously. "If you let him meet that damn girl again, it’s as if you have no feelings!"

Elena remains silent.

"She..." Darius points at Karina still asleep. "She needs Damian more than that damn girl. She’s better than that fucking girl... That fucking girl is just playing Damian and all of us with her sad stories!"

"I know, and you don’t need to nag at me," Elena murmurs with an annoyed look. "I won’t interfere in their affairs again; it’s better if I go home!" she continues, then leaves immediately.

"Elena!" Darius calls out.

Elena ignores him, walks out of the room, and looks for Damian while trying to contact him.

Darius turns to Karina, who wakes up and sits immediately. He approaches her as if not surprised to see her sitting without looking weak. Hmm, maybe she knows she’s pretending to be sick? Or maybe they’re working together to deceive Damian?

"I think he’s meeting Valerie," Darius says anxiously. "He doesn’t care about my threats; he doesn’t care about you even though you look so weak!"

"Mr. McCourtney, you don’t need to worry too much," Karina calmly replies. "I’m sure he’ll care more about me soon. Today he’s shown it; he didn’t leave me at all, didn’t speak harshly, even he’s unwilling to end our relationship," she continues with a smile.

"Is that so?"

"Yes... It seems he’s very worried about me and doesn’t want me to be sad and sicker. But I believe that way, he can care more about me in the future."

"But if Valerie remains attractive to him, he will still choose her. When he knows that you will recover, he will stop worrying about you," Darius says with an irritated look, still haunted by Valerie. "We have to do something to make him hate Valerie so much... Hate her until he’s not interested in being with her again... Like when she pretended to accept Samuel," he continues, turning his gaze away as if pondering something.

"Don’t worry about that."

Darius immediately looks back at Karina, who smiles cunningly.

"I’ve asked my friend to do something to Valerie so Damian will hate her," Karina says.

"What are you going to do?" Darius asks, curious until he sits down immediately with his serious gaze.

"You don’t need to know now. But you just need to act quietly. Never threaten Valerie again, never argue about her to Damian. You must remain neutral and pretend not to know that I’m just pretending to be sick... You just need to be silent. Maybe discuss a little with my father... Maybe influence him to ask Damian to marry me," Karina explains then looks away and smiles. "And when we’re married, he won’t be able to leave me anymore... I’ll pretend to undergo a transplant and recover... But he won’t leave me because he already hates Valerie... That’s my plan," she continues, then looks back at Darius.

Darius nods his head, a sly smile appearing as he looks at Karina.

’I didn’t expect you to be so cunning,’ he thinks to himself. ’I never imagined having a cunning daughter-in-law, but maybe this is better than constantly dealing with Valerie and her family, while they can’t provide any benefit... they just embarrass me!’

...

Damian drives his car at high speed, but his attention is drawn to his phone ringing in his pants pocket. He quickly takes it and answers the call without looking at the caller’s name.

"Damian, where are you?" a woman’s voice comes from the phone.

"Mom..." Damian understands it’s his mother’s voice. "I told you, I have to meet Valerie. I don’t want her to change her mind because Dad threatened her."

"Change her mind? What do you mean?"

"For the past few days, I’ve been away, I went to Korea with her and also Daniel. I accompanied her to receive an award from a writing contest. After that, we spent time together having fun..." Damian explains and smiles, unable to erase his memories of sweet moments with Valerie and Daniel in Korea. "She’s decided to take me back, but we won’t tell anyone until I can end my relationship with Karina."

"Is that so?" Elena sounds enthusiastic.

"Yes, but this afternoon when we just parted ways, she sent me a message. She said Dad threatened her again through her sister. She seemed angry and disappointed, scared, and even refused to answer my calls anymore. So I have to meet her and reassure her..." Damian sighs, remembering Karina’s condition. "And maybe I have to explain about Karina too so there won’t be any misunderstanding. I don’t want her to leave me again..."

"Alright, do your best. I’m very happy if she still gives you a chance, and you must not waste it."

"Yes, Mom... Pray for me."

"Yes, always..." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"Maybe I’ll leave my car at a friend’s house and borrow his motorcycle... I don’t want Dad’s people to follow me and eventually find Valerie’s new home," Damian says again, slowing down his car as he arrives in an upscale residential area.

"Alright then, good luck," Elena replies.

Damian ends the call, and then parks his car in front of a minimalist house without a gate. He stops there, then hurriedly gets out.
