Chapter 70: Dizzying cunning

At 9 p.m. ...

Damian parked his black trail motorcycle behind Valerie’s house, then took off his red helmet and shook his somewhat messy hair. He immediately got off, removed the keys, and tucked them into his black robe before heading towards the back door.

"Maybe Daniel isn’t asleep yet," he thought to himself, raising his hand to knock on the door, but it swung open before he could.

He smiled at Valerie. "Hey ..."

Valerie remained silent with her blank stare, then turned and walked inside.

"What’s wrong?" Damian furrowed his brows, immediately following Valerie into the living room and stopping by the sofa.

Glancing around the quiet room, he thought Daniel must have been asleep while Hannah secluded herself in her room to rest.

"I thought our son was still awake," he said, sitting next to Valerie.

"He was asleep earlier," Valerie replied without looking at him.

Damian took off his robe and placed it behind him, then leaned towards Valerie, who looked grim and cold.

"What happened? Is something bothering you? Is there a problem with your new project?"

"No..."

"Then why aren’t you excited?"

Valerie remained silent.

"Baby..." Damian touched her cheek, causing her to turn and look at him. "Tell me..."

"Let’s just end it all," Valerie said sadly, instantly furrowing Damian’s brows. "There’s no point in us being together."

"Why?" Damian asked anxiously. "Can’t you wait for me to end my relationship with Karina successfully? Can’t you let me be with her for a while? Are you jealous?"

"No, I’m not jealous!"

"Then what?"

"Daniel... He was almost kidnapped today, who else would do that if not your father," Valerie said, her eyes welling up. "I don’t want to suspect, but it’s only him who could do it. He’s the one who threatened to harm my family, which means Daniel too."

Damian fell silent, widening his eyes.

"Maybe he’s upset that we’re back together, so he’s carrying out his threat, he’ll destroy me!" Valerie exclaimed angrily, unable to hold back her tears. "I don’t want to lose my son or anyone I care about just to maintain our relationship, I don’t want to!" she continued, distancing herself from Damian.

Damian swallowed, remembering his father who didn’t believe in his lies.

"He doesn’t trust me... I thought he believed that I have no relationship with you anymore... How could he do this? Is he spying on you? He... He’s heartless to want to kidnap Daniel!" Damian clenched his fists and stood up.

"Don’t be angry with him!" Valerie exclaimed.

"I have to!" Damian replied, his breath racing. "I can’t let him mistreat you or our son!"

"But that will only make things worse, he’ll get angrier and do worse things to us!" Valerie stood up. "Please... Don’t always oppose him!"

"Then what should I do?" Damian asked angrily. "Should I end our relationship, and live separately so Daniel can’t be happy? Is that what you want, huh? Don’t you understand, I’ve said that I have no relationship with you anymore, but he’s still doing this! So why should we end if he keeps treating you badly?" He asked impatiently.

Valerie remained silent in tears.

Damian sighed, then approached Valerie and hugged her.

"Please... I’ll do anything but never end our relationship... I can’t live without you, I don’t know what my purpose in life is if not to be with you and Daniel," he said sadly.

"I’m too scared!" Valerie whispered through her tears.

"Don’t be afraid... I’ll do something." Damian tightened his jaw, his gaze sharp imagining his father’s face. ’If I’m not given the freedom to choose and not choose, then I’ll make you choose... I won’t let you continue to control my life and Valerie!’ he thought angrily.

Valerie let go of Damian’s embrace and looked at him. "When Hannah and Daniel were heading here after leaving daycare, two mysterious men chased them, then carried Daniel," she said.

"The mysterious men took Daniel?" Damian furrowed his brows.

Valerie nodded. "Yes, they almost succeeded in taking Daniel, but luckily there was a man who immediately helped them."

Damian immediately envisioned the situation.

"The man was injured, but he managed to drive them away. He brought Daniel and Hannah here, and then I treated his wounds," Valerie explained anxiously. "We’re very worried if those two mysterious men are still trying to chase Daniel," she continued.

Damian sighed deeply, then turned his face away. "This can’t be allowed, your safety is compromised."

"The man who helped them promised to protect us," Valerie said cautiously, as if not wanting Damian to get angry. "It turns out he’s a bodyguard and a spy, he lives nearby so he can watch over you," she continued.

Damian furrowed his brows, seeming puzzled.

"In the morning, he’ll take Daniel and Hannah to daycare, then pick them up as well. After that, he’ll return to his work, and we’ll stay at home," Valerie explained again.

Damian immediately shook his head anxiously. "No, you don’t need his help. He’s a stranger and we don’t know if he’s good or not."

"But he’s good, he almost died saving our son!" Valerie said confidently. "What else can you do? I think he can be trusted..."

"No, no..." Damian shook his head. "I disagree. I’ll pay someone to guard you... And I’ll also talk to my father so he won’t bother you again!"

"Damian!" Valerie stood up immediately. "Why don’t you understand? If you talk to him, it means he’ll know that we’re back together... then he’ll realize that you lied to him about not knowing my whereabouts. You have to pretend not to know what happened to Daniel... And don’t hire too many guards here because he’ll know they’re your henchmen, and again he’ll know that we have a relationship!"

Damian sighed deeply, then leaned his head against the sofa. He looked up at the room’s ceiling, imagining his father, but suddenly Karina’s image appeared as well.

’right, he must not know that I’m still in a relationship with Valerie, it could make Karina sad too, then her condition worsens or she might even die... I don’t want to be the cause of someone’s death... I don’t want to be haunted by guilt,’ he thought anxiously.

Valerie glanced at Damian who was lost in thought.

"I’m dizzy, I’m tired, I can’t keep going like this!" she said hurriedly, walking to the bedroom.

Damian let Valerie go to the bedroom, then took out his phone and looked at the contact list he had until his gaze fell on a contact named Jerry.

’but he betrayed me by helping Samuel hide Valerie... Can he be trusted again now?’ he thought anxiously, recalling Jerry who worked for the spy agency.

...

In her apartment, Karina was sitting leisurely enjoying red wine, watching a movie with her feet up on the table.

’Damian... Now I feel it... Your attention and affection. I can’t deny why so many girls want you, you indeed have charm... Unique, masculine, and maybe you’re so strong,’ she thought as she imagined Damian handsome and gallant. "It’s a pity your mind has been brainwashed by that damn Valerie. If killing innocents were acceptable, I would make her vanish from this world!"

The sound of the door opening.

Karina immediately turned and found a man walking towards her with unsteady steps and a somewhat battered face.

"Tristan!" She quickly stood up and placed her red wine on the table, then approached the man. "What happened to you? Who beat you up?" She wondered as she held his shoulder, while her other hand felt his cheek down to his jaw.

Tristan just gave a faint smile.

"Hey..." Karina furrowed her brows.

"You don’t need to worry... This is part of my plan to get closer to Valerie," Tristan said with a sly smile. "Now I have a reason to keep seeing her," he continued.

"Does that mean you know where she lives?" Karina asked.

"Yes... She lives not far from her parents’ house... And Damian knows that," Tristan explained while caressing Karina’s smooth arm. "You and Mr. McCourtney are too naive, unable to find her whereabouts, and you don’t know Damian is deceiving you," he continued.

Karina took a deep breath, exhaling slowly, her gaze turning cold as she imagined Valerie and Damian.

’So, he’s just deceiving me, he’s only being sweet to me because he thinks I’ll die!’ she thought.

"I think they have a plan for you and Mr. McCourtney," Tristan said.

Karina refocused on him. "Then you have to do something to make them not united anymore! You have to make Damian hate her as soon as possible!" she exclaimed, her eyes widening.

"Don’t worry, it’s very easy to do that..." Tristan smiled and caressed Karina’s cheek. "But now I need a reward for what I did today. Don’t you want to appreciate my hard work... I’m battered just to fulfill your wishes..."

Karina smirked and then embraced Tristan’s neck. "When I give you a reward, it means you promise success for the next mission."

"I will always succeed, Baby..."

"Really?"

"Hmm... I will do anything so you allow me to enjoy this beautiful body." Tristan caressed Karina’s buttocks, still covered by her red pajama with open sleeves.

Karina took a deep breath, Tristan’s touch seemed to ignite her passion.

"My slut!" Tristan held Karina’s chin and tilted her face up.

"How dare you call me that," Karina whispered.

"Then what should I call you? If doing this to get what you want, and I commit crimes too to get pleasure from you. We’re both sluts!" Tristan whispered, then kissed Karina’s lips without giving her a chance to respond to his words.
