Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 122: Awake
"The patient is very stable," the doctor announced. "At this rate, it shouldn’t be long before she wakes up."
Those were the words Eva heard before she forced her eyes open.
The ceiling was white and familiar. Eva felt she’d been in a place like this before. She could tell she’d woken up from a place like this before.
There were people before her; she could feel them, but her eyes were too blurry to make out their faces.
She closed them back and waited for a few seconds while a man continued to say some things she didn’t understand.
She opened her eyes once again, and she saw Jace, Adrian, and Ryan, all standing and listening attentively to a man who was wearing a lab coat. A doctor, she presumed.
His back was turned to her so she couldn’t see his face properly.
"That will be all for now," said the doctor.
Eva was quiet the entire time. She thought she would wake up to see heaven. Or perhaps, her brothers died along with her somehow, but an unknown doctor couldn’t possibly have followed her to heaven as well.
She was alive.
She really was alive.
But speaking felt like a workout as she couldn’t even part her lips to make a sound.
"Thank you so much doctor," said Jace.
The doctor nodded before leaving the room.
"Guys." She forced herself to say. Her voice was low, barely audible but yet, but they managed to hear her because the hospital space was as silent as a graveyard.
Instantly, all their heads snapped towards her at the speed of light. It was so fast that Eva’s neck hurt watching them do it.
They stared at her in silence. Utter silence. No one dared to make a sound.
"Eva..." Ryan called so softly.
She forced a faint smile on her lips, unable to gather the strength to speak again.
Instantly, they rushed towards her so fast, her body almost jerked.
"You’re awake!!" They screamed. "Go call the doctor immediately."
Jace ran out to call the doctor, but by the time they returned, Eva had fainted from the noise both Ryan and Adrian had caused.
Two hours later,
Eva woke up to the familiar room once again, and this time, her brothers and Ryan were both sitting on the couch opposite the bed, their eyes filled with guilt.
"Guys..." She called once again.
They heard her once again, but tried to be as quiet as possible to hold their happiness.
They walked towards her, smiles blooming on their faces like flowers that’d just recently bloomed.
"How are you feeling?" Adrian asked, his eyes filled with water. Tears, she presumed.
"Water," she said hoarsely.
Quickly, Ryan poured a glass of water for her and helped her up as gently as possible before placing the edge of the glass on her lips.
Eva drank the entire contents like her life depended on it. Ryan had to fill the glass with more water and she finished it in less than ten seconds.
"Easy," he said softly.
After a few minutes had passed, Eva parted her lips to speak again.
"I feel better now," she replied to Adrian’s question earlier. "How long have I been here?" She asked.
From their appearance, she could tell it’s been quite a while.
Their hair was longer than the last time she’d seen them, as if they hadn’t gotten a haircut for a while.
Both the brothers glanced at each other, wondering if it was all right to tell her the truth.
"Seven months," Ryan replied before they could.
Eva wasn’t surprised. She’d expected it to be longer for some reason. But seven months wasn’t much considering she’d been in a coma longer than that before.
"I see," she replied expressionlessly. "And what has been happening for the past seven months?"
The trio glanced at each other, as if wondering if it was a good idea to let her know what had been happening for the past few days.
Eva waited patiently, yet they still didn’t say anything.
"You just woke up after so many months, you shouldn’t be asking such questions so soon," said Ryan.
"And Dante?" She suddenly asked and they choked on their saliva.
"Eva..."
She didn’t say anything anymore.
She could still remember that night vividly if everything had happened just yesterday.
Dante knew that his father was her parents’ killer but still didn’t say anything. She knew their relationship was merely just a joke, but she’d hoped that he wouldn’t betray her trust.
He’d promised her he would be the last person to want to hurt her. Yet he did. He killed James as well just to help his father.
Somehow, Eva still wished she were still asleep, at least then, she wouldn’t be feeling hurt as she was now. Or at least, she could have gotten amnesia so that she could forget everything and move on with her life.
Nothing happened after that, just the trio being happy that Eva was finally awake, although they sensed something was different about her.
However, they brushed it off since she’d only just woken up after several months in a coma after almost being killed.
"Is Katherine still in jail?" Eva suddenly asked.
Just when they thought she would give up and go back to resting since the doctor suggested she needed lots of it.
"She is still in jail, but she had a premature birth just last week," Ryan replied.
Eva frowned at this.
If she’d been in a coma for seven months, then hadn’t Katherine gone through her nine months of pregnancy already? Yet she gave birth prematurely?
"It was broadcast on the internet since she was still Eva’s killer and a prime suspect in your disappearance to date even though she isn’t," Jace replied.
Eva nodded in understanding.
’I guess it’s still ruined as I wanted,’ Eva thought.
But she needed to get back on her own two feet soon and started walking.
She had a career to pursue, and she needed to make some people pay. Especially Dante.
Her eyes silently darkened with rage when his image flashed in her memory.
