Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 121: Nightmare
A month later,
In a small house with only a few rooms, plants were planted everywhere, making it look ethereal and inviting. It looked like one of those houses you would see in cartoons and princess movies because the daughters of the man who lived there loved to plant together.
"Are you sure this is the right way to place it? I think it should be next to the door. You know, so that the visitors will breathe in something that smells good before they walk into the house," the older daughter asked, a black scar on her face while her eyebrows were furrowed deeply, imagining how their new plants would look by the doorstep.
"But what if they step on them? We had to mould these vases ourselves because it was too expensive in the market. And you know we have blind visitors sometimes," the younger sister remarked, moving the flower vases next to the window instead.
"And what if it breaks there?" The older sister asked.
"It won’t break. We planted the flowers and made the vase. So our sibling power is more powerful than any other power that wants to ruin what we made together," Eva replied.
Keisha could only laugh. It was already noon and their father wasn’t back from work yet. Their mother went to a nearby store to get something and would be back home soon.
Hours later, their father returned and the two girls ran over to hug him dearly.
Despite their size, he still managed to pick them up in his arms.
"How are my favorite children doing?" Peter asked, a big smile on his lips.
"We missed you," they said in unison.
They sat down for dinner, something that they were used to as it was their daily routine, nothing out of the ordinary. It got windy for a moment, and Eva heard the shattering sound of something.
She stormed outside, only to find it was the vase she’s kept by the window.
"I told you it was going to break. You never listen to me," Keisha scolded.
Eva attempted to pick up the pieces but her mother quickly snatched her hands away.
"Don’t touch it. I’ll clean it. You two, go and finish your food," she said.
Eva was silent for a while, a heavy feeling creeping into her chest, but she didn’t say anything.
She suddenly felt like someone was watching them.
Their neighborhood had a gate and fence for every house, but it seemed someone had managed to get through their gate and was watching them.
There were lights everywhere, so she didn’t see anybody standing close by. But that feeling was still there.
Peter, being the attentive man he always was, noticed Eva staring hard into the distance and his eyes narrowed deeply.
"Everyone, go inside," he instructed and everyone listened to him.
When it was time for bed, Eva left her bed to go grab a glass of water when she overheard her parents speaking.
"We need to leave soon," said Peter, his voice hushed and low.
"But where will we go?" Jubilee asked, concern evident in her tone. "The girls have already built their lives here. They have many friends and it’s going to be hard to explain the reason. Especially with Eva. You know she’s always asking questions."
"We have no choice. We’ll leave first and explain it to them later. They’ll understand when they’re all grown up." Her father’s voice held more urgency now.
Eva snuck back into her room without making a sound and got into her bed quietly.
Later that night, her body was shaking violently when someone tried to wake her up.
She opened her eyes, only to find that their house was caught in a flame now. Everything was burning down.
"Eva, get up. We need to leave," said Keisha, tears already streaming down her face as she pulled her little sister out of the bed.
Their parents were already waiting for them at the door.
"Come." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
At this point, Eva was also starting to panic. The dining table where they’d just eaten dinner, shared memories had just caught fire, and was burning down.
The smoke was making it hard to breathe, and she felt lightheaded. The heat was too much even though the fire wasn’t touching her skin.
Once they were about to leave the house, their father stopped for a moment.
"I need to get something. Go on ahead." His wife tried to stop him but it was already too late. He went back inside the house.
Jubilee pushed the girls away from the fire, their faces hot with tears. Their visions blurred when a part of the house collapsed.
Their hearts sank. Their father was still inside.
Jubilee took the girls further away from the burning house.
"I’ll go look for your father, okay? Stay here," she said.
Her daughters held her hands immediately.
"No, don’t go. Please," they pleaded.
"I’ll be right back," she promised.
But she never got to keep that promise, because the moment she went into the house, the entrance collapsed, trapping her in red flames.
"Mother!! Father!!" The two girls screamed.
Eva was about to head towards it but Keisha pulled her back, dragging her through the gates.
The fire had caught the attention of the neighbors, and they came out of their house, with buckets of water as if that would help.
Eva cleaned off her tears when she saw someone walking away from the scene, his steps slow and deliberate, and if the urgency at hand didn’t affect him at all.
As if feeling the little girl’s stare, the person turned to look at her. He grinned before he turned away from her.
The firefighters came, but it was already too late. The spouse had already burned to death.

"The patient is very stable," the doctor announced. "At this rate, it shouldn’t be long before she wakes up."
Those were the words Eva heard before she forced her eyes open.
