Chapter 126: Empty Barrel

He saw her. Her hair. Her eyes. Her smile. He recognized them all.

The billboard read; The Comeback Of Eva Montclair!!

Dante thought he was seeing things that he didn’t think would be Eva he saw on the billboard.

Some cars dropped off and took pictures of Eva from the billboard.

"That’s Eva, right?" Someone whispered to another person.

"She’s been missing for some time now. I wonder how she’s doing."

They saw Dante still staring at the billboard. They recognized him to be her husband, but they weren’t sure if they wanted to speak to him.

"Come on, let’s go," they said to each other and left immediately.

Dante continued to stare at the billboard, completely oblivious to the stares of the other passersby who saw him looking into it like he wanted the person displayed on the screen to come out of it.

Without realizing it, a single tear fell on his cheeks. He sniffled the rest of his tears back in as he got into his car immediately.

He needed to go to the people who had the answers to his questions. Hopefully, they were still in the city to answer it.

Dante arrived at the Montclair corporation in forty minutes and that was when he saw the Montclair brothers heading towards their car, a grim expression on their faces. They definitely felt uneasy about something.

When they noticed him, they instantly glared at him.

"What are you doing here?" Adrian questioned. "Leave before I call security," he demanded.

Dante didn’t budge at all.

"You saw the advertisement didn’t you?" Dante asked, glancing between the two of them.

He’d nearly given up on finding Eva. Just when he was about to accept that she was no more, she appeared once again.

"And what’s it to you?" Jace questioned this time, the intensity of his glare so intense it would have forced an ordinary person to go on their knees already. But not Dante. He didn’t care about the looks they gave him.

"You told me she was dead," Dante stated. Then he huffed, trying to calm himself. At the end of the day, he understood that they were disappointed in him, and as much as he didn’t care about what they thought about him, they still knew where Eva was and he needed to find her. "Which city is she in Qynland?" He demanded.

Adrian scoffed, unable to believe his ears. "And what made you think that we’ll tell you that? Isn’t the message clear enough to you Dante? Eva doesn’t want to see your face. And why would she? After what you did to her, you still dare to ask for her whereabouts."

It was obvious now that they wouldn’t tell him anything. So Dante turned his back, ready to leave. He would find her in his own way. He should have just done that instead of wasting his time, thinking he would get a good reply from the brothers.

"Dante," Jace called, stopping him in his tracks. "After what you’ve done to Eva, the last thing you would want to do is go see her. She doesn’t want to see you so you should just leave her alone."

Dante turned to him. "She’s my wife, and she’s supposed to be by my side."

His reply instantly got the brothers furious.

They’d tried to talk Eva out of continuing her career and exposing herself to the public once again, at least not while Dante and his father were still alive, yet she refused.

Dante gave the brothers a heavy glunch before he got into his car and left.

**

Mr. De Rossi had already arrived at his mansion when he saw the advertisement of Eva in it, and he couldn’t believe his eyes.

He thought she was dead. She was supposed to be dead. After all, he’d killed her with his hands, with his very own hands and yet, she was right there, looking like she was never shot and stuffed in a barrel months ago.

"What are you looking at?" He heard Mylo. The latter stole a glimpse from his phone, and a smile spread on his lips. "Oh, she resurrected again? That woman cheats death every time, don’t you think Father?" He asked with his index finger tapping on his chin.

Mr. De Rossi turned off his phone and heavily gulped his saliva. He felt uncomfortable, like he was standing naked in front of many people and all his body was out for them to see.

With Eva still alive, it already felt like she’d started revealing all his secrets even though she hasn’t said a word yet.

Without replying to Mylo’s sarcasm, he left the house heading to his car.

He needed to make sure that person was Eva, or an imposter who was up to no good.

Mylo watched his father leave the mansion with curiosity laced in his gaze. He needed to find out where he was going. So, he left the house and got into his car, making sure to follow him at a close distance.

While Mylo was following his father, he glanced at his rearview mirror and found a familiar car following right behind him.

A grin stretched on his lips.

After almost an hour of driving, Mr. De Rossi arrived in the forest, the exact location where he’d buried Eva.

He ordered his two bodyguards to start digging.

After a few minutes of digging, they came across the barrel and brought it out.

Mr. De Rossi’s heart was pounding against his chest. If Eva wasn’t in there like she’s supposed to be, he didn’t know what to do exactly.

She was dead. He continued to repeat those words in his mind but it didn’t sound convincing enough anymore.

"Open it," he ordered.

This was the only way to find out if it was Eva who was circulating the internet now or just an imposter.

The bodyguards did as they were told.

The lid was opened and tossed aside.

Mr. De Rossi glanced inside, and his gaze instantly darkened when he saw that the barrel was empty.
