Chapter 155: My Sister

Eva stared at her hand cast with a blank look.

Apparently, her hand had broken due to the accident. She didn’t even notice it until the nurse had told her to lift it a moment ago, causing her to wince in pain.

She caressed it, her doe eyes landing softly on it. She was in her own hospital room. She could have gone to Katherine’s ward but the doctors were still working on trying to revive her. And worse, the nurse who’d attended to her refused to give her any details as to what the problem could be.

Her phone suddenly vibrates with a phone call. She saw Dante’s name written on it. Without wasting any moment, she picked up the call.

After directing Dante where she was, she hung up, waiting for him.

She was no longer in her blood-stained dress and was now draped in a hospital gown. Her body ached with pain but she couldn’t even find it in herself to rest.

The door opened and Dante walked in, his eyes filled with worry.

Eva stared at him, unable to speak. She just stared at him like a soulless person but her lips trembled.

Dante didn’t need to say anything as he quickly wrapped his arms around her, burying her head on his chest while her body shook with a silent but heavy sob.

He’d called her immediately after the accident appeared on the news. Throughout the ride to the hospital, his heart raced thousands of miles that he feared it was going to pop right out of his chest.

And now that she was in his arms again, he could finally calm down.

"She’s in a critical condition, Dante. I want to see her." She pleaded. "I want to see my sister."

Eva didn’t care anymore if Katherine was her mortal enemy. She didn’t care that Katherine had tried to take her life several times, or the fact that Katherine had been the one behind her miscarriages in the past.

When Eva’s cries finally subsided, they went to Katherine’s ward where the nurses were running about.

"What could be the problem?" Dante demanded from a nurse.

"The patient needs an urgent blood transfusion but her blood type is rare."

"What’s her blood type?" Eva questioned this time around.

"AB-"

"That’s my blood type," she said, her eyes filled with hope once again. "You can take my blood."

The nurse was a little hesitant.

"You also lost blood due to the accident. It’s not advisable to take your blood—"

"I don’t care about any of that. We both have similar blood types and she needs blood. So take mine." Eva’s tone was slightly sharp now as she pulled out her other hand, exposing her wrist.

Dante pulled her aside to try to talk some sense into her.

"I think the nurse has a valid reason why she shouldn’t take your blood. You need it to recover."

"Katherine needs my help. This is my chance. If anything happens to her because of me, I don’t think I would be able to forgive myself."

Left with no other choice, Dante instructed the nurse to draw blood from Evangeline.

It took a lot more convincing for her before she agreed.

Six hours later...

Eva was seated in Katherine’s room, waiting for the latter to wake up.

After the blood transfusion, Eva’s body almost completely collapsed, leading her to rest for a little while.

It was almost evening and Dante wasn’t by her side.

He’d gone to get nutritious food for her after a while of loss of appetite.

Eva stared at Katherine. Her head was wrapped in bandages, just like hers. She’d been sleeping for a while now, but the doctors assured her she wouldn’t slip into a comatose state and would wake up soon.

It’s only been six hours and she was already showing signs of recovery, thanks to her blood.

Almost immediately, she saw Katherine’s fingers move. It was a subtle motion that could have been missed if Eva hadn’t been watching her like a hawk.

Instantly, she stood up, completely forgetting she needed to heal as well.

She waited for Katherine’s fingers to move again so she would be sure she wasn’t hallucinating. And it did.

Not only that, Katherine’s eyes parted a little, revealing her moist dark brown eyes.

A smile bloomed on Eva’s face. She never thought she would be happy that Katherine woke up after landing in the hospital.

"Katherine." She called, her voice sweet. However, Katherine stared at her, her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion.

Katherine stared at her non-rebreather mask, her confusion only deepening.

With a swift motion, she yanked it right off her head, her action leaving Eva completely in a shocked state.

"What’s this nonsense?" Katherine demanded, her voice weak. "You tried to kill me!"

Eva’s face was marred with confusion, her lips parting and closing, unable to come up with a word.

"You..." Her tone was filled with so much venom. "I’m not even surprised. But to pay just to have me run over wasn’t in the list of things I thought you would do to me."

"What are you talking about?"

"That accident was planned by you! I know it!" Katherine tried to sit up on the bed but she winced when her head banged hard like a boulder had been dropped on it.

Eva reached forward to help her but immediately stopped herself.

"I didn’t plan the accident," she replied, her tone firm. "If I did, you wouldn’t be alive to ask questions in the first place."

Katherine scoffed. "As if I believe you."

The nurse knocked before walking in. "Good. You’re awake."

She quickly checked a few things on the monitor.

"Thanks to the blood transferred from this patient here, your recovery is speeding up."

Katherine frowned. "Which patient?"

The nurse paused for a second before glancing towards Eva.

"You have a rare blood type. But thankfully, you two have the same blood type so the treatment went smoothly." She continued.

After making sure everything was alright, the nurse excused herself. She could feel that the two women had a bone to pick with each other.

"Why would you give me your blood?" Katherine questioned. "I thought you wanted me dead."

"Believe me, if I could turn back time to when I hated you so much just so I could finish you off without feeling the slightest remorse, I would. But I can’t..." Eva paused for a moment. "Because you’re my sister, Keisha."
