Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 80: New Superpower Use
Chapter 80: Chapter 80: New Superpower Use
His aim was still not too accurate as it was his first time using this method on a real target. Before, he had been practicing in the bathroom without something to aim at. Thus, even though he shot out ten fire needles, only two hit their mark, the rest were off course. However, this also helped him to understand his weakness and adjust his aim accordingly.
The second shot of ten needles had four hitting their mark. Four zombies burned fast and turned into ashes soon after.
Leng Pan had not attacked yet as she used her water ability to create a thin protective must around her. This mist obstructed sight, although from the original book, the zombies couldn’t see and only used their hearing and sense of smell to locate their prey.
It also helped to cover her scent, thus camouflaging her and protecting her from being discovered through smell.
"Alright, I’ll move in now. Please be careful and don’t get distracted worrying about me" Leng Pan said as she started to walk towards the show room using the path Lu Zhen created.
Lu Zhen hummed in agreement and turned to look at her only to be shocked. He didn’t see her but looking at the moving mist, he assumed she must have used her water ability in a way that concealed her.
He also noticed that the zombies were not moving to her side even when she was close to them. Seeing this, he breathed a sigh of relief as he realized that the zombies couldn’t smell her.
Thus, he could stop worrying and concentrate on fighting the zombies and practicing his ability.
Leng Pan was actually glad that she had found a way to isolate her scent but it consumed her superpower at a faster rate.
Just walking from the outside and into the showroom had exhausted about half of her stored energy. If she maintained the mist for long, she would run out of energy completely.
Therefore, once inside the building, she withdrew the mist and took a deep breath. Looking back, she saw Lu Zhen running across the road to a gas station on the other side.
She didn’t know what he wanted to do, but his strong vitality and the noise he created had attracted almost all the zombies and they were following him.
Seeing that he wasn’t in any danger, she turned around and started walking around the fallen debris, protruding steel bars, and crashed cars looking for something that could be used.
In the places where the meteorites had fallen, everything crashed and some even burnt. Loose concrete could be seen everywhere as the rocks dug pits on the floor.
Also, there were cracks snaking along the floor and walls in the area around where those rocks were.
Leng Pan avoided any sharp objects that could hurt her and walked as she surveyed the vehicles with the least damage.
As she passed by a place where the roof had collapsed and the wall caved with debris, steel, and parts of the wall had fallen, she heard some movement under the rubble.
She got curious and moved closer thinking that there was a survivor trapped under the rubble. She wanted to render help if possible.
However, as soon as she got close, a withered hand with rotten flesh falling off shot out from under the rubble through a gap in the fallen debris and grabbed her boot.
Leng Pan was so scared that she almost screamed. But remembering Lu Zhen, she knew that if she dared to make a sound, he would come running without a care for his life.
She suppressed the fear inside her and pulled back her foot with all her strength. The hand wasn’t that strong and let her go immediately.
She realized that the person trapped inside had already turned into a zombie and couldn’t be helped.
From the nail polish and the shape of the nails, she could tell that it was a well-maintained woman who had been trapped there. Either a worker in the shop or a customer, she didn’t know but she couldn’t sympathize with her at the moment.
No matter who she had been three days ago, she was now an enemy who must be killed. Since the zombie didn’t seem to have the ability to free itself, Leng Pan didn’t bother with it and left.
She kept looking for any vehicle that was useful and might have survived the meteor shower.
As she approached the vehicles at the back, she spotted a small yellow crane. It had a forklift at the front and a truck bed at the back. Even though it had some debris on the roof and was deformed in some places, it looked mostly intact and usable.
Without a second thought, she headed in its direction. After conducting a simple examination, she could confirm that the crane could indeed be used.
However, as soon as she started getting the debris off the roof, she felt a chill run down her spine and the back of her scalp tingle.
Danger.
That was the thought that rang in her mind at that moment. Without a second thought, a layer of water covered her entire body from head-to-toe out of reflex and she rolled to the side, moving away from where she was in a split second.
Luckily, she had created the protective layer with water out of pure instinct because she ended up rolling in a place littered with broken glass and loose concrete.
She would have been badly injured without such a layer of protection.
However, what made her heart race even faster was the fact that the side of the crane where she was standing a second ago now had deep scratch marks.
A zombie with red veins protruding on its arms and violet lines appearing in its gray eyes stood only two feet from where she had been standing.
If she had not reacted fast enough, her back would have probably been torn to the bone by that zombie.
