Riley Ross-Chapter 50: The Start of the Mock Battles
Chapter 50: Chapter 50: The Start of the Mock Battles
Once again, Riley managed to shut everyone’s mouth tight. There were at least eighty students present, and not a single one dared to speak. Their eyes, however, were another matter entirely.
If there were an alternate universe where moving one’s eyeball made a sound, then the air would probably be drowned by all sorts of thunderous noises by now. The other students from Silvie’s class were already taken aback by the fact that Riley was an albino. For most of them, this was their first time seeing someone like him... anything that would have come out of his mouth would be a wonder for them. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
But... Sweet Snowy Little Baby Boy?
Was he joking? And if he was, were they allowed to laugh? Should they laugh?
Everyone was staring at Riley like he was some sort of unicorn, which he probably was.
But of course, the one who was most at a loss as to what to do was Silvie.
She’d been prepared to show him courtesy, to address him by whatever superhero name he’d chosen... but how could she? Saying that name out loud felt like she’d already lost.
The silence hung thick for several seconds—until someone finally cracked.
"P-pft..."
Everyone turned their heads toward the one who made the noise, and the culprit was none other than Gary, who was now pointing directly at Silvie.
"You... you were so serious. And... and..." Gary could barely even form his words properly as he burst out into a fit of laughter, "Megagirl... you were so serious and... and confident. And then he... he’s... You must be so embarrassed right now!"
Silvie wasn’t—at least, not until Gary said that.
It took everything in her to try and pretend that she wasn’t affected by it. It wasn’t helping at all that Gary didn’t seem to have any plans on stopping—he continued pointing at her, and he laughed to the point that he almost sounded like a girl from the lack of oxygen.
Fortunately for Silvie, it only took a single glare from Hannah to make him stop. But it didn’t matter, however, as the damage was already done.
"Please... try to take this seriously," Silvie muttered, her gaze fixed on Riley as he floated gently down to the ground.
"I am," Riley blinked, tilting his head to the side, seemingly confused at Silvie’s words, "I was initially going by my name, but Sister and the others said that I should not—they told me that I should pick a name with something that represents me. I can not think of anything else that would represent me more other than the term of endearment my Mother uses for me. Sweet Snowy Little Baby Boy."
Riley stretched his arms to the side again, "Do I not look like a sweet, snowy, little baby boy, Megagirl?"
"You—"
"Okay!"
And before Silvie could even attempt to reply to the ridiculous question, Spectacular Mustache Man moved between them, his mustache drifting beside him like a pair of tendrils several meters long.
He raised both his hands, pointing his palms at the two as if motioning to them to calm down, even though they were already calm in the first place.
"The rules of this battle are simple!" Spectacular Mustache Man raised his voice, "The battle ends when one side surrenders, or can no longer fight. We have healers and an entire medical team on standby—as long as it isn’t lethal, it can be healed. But you don’t have to worry, before anything close to lethal can happen, we will stop the match."
Spectacular Mustache Man took in a deep breath as he looked at Silvie and Riley.
"But winning isn’t as important as you think," he continued, "Both of you will be given points by the end of it, depending on your performance."
"How will points be—"
"You won’t know," Spectacular Mustache Man interrupted Silvie without missing a beat. "All you need to know is that even if you win, your opponent might earn more points than you. These scores will contribute to your official class ranking."
He gave one last nod.
"You may begin at the whip of my mustache."
"Wait, what about specific rules—?!"
"The law is the rules," he replied with a wink and a smirk.
"The law..." And upon hearing the word, Silvie’s posture suddenly stiffened up. Her eyes that glimmered and contrasted with the mask around it, slightly turning blank for a moment as she straightened her back and put her feet together.
She did this so casually, and only Riley really noticed it since he was in front of her. Silvie’s sudden stand in attention, however, did not last long.
Bang!
True to his words, Spectacular Mustache Man’s mustache whipped in the air, letting out a loud snap that made everyone there cover their ears—and of course, Silvie, being the closest to him, also covered her ears in shock.
"Tss!" Silvie gritted her teeth. This was the worst start of a battle it could ever be for her. As someone with super hearing, she always needed to focus her senses so that she wouldn’t hear everything.
Unfortunately for her, her senses were currently focused on Spectacular Mustache Man when he whipped his mustache to signal the start of the battle.
Still, she didn’t allow herself to be affected by it that much, and forced herself to recover, and looked at her opponent. She clenched her jaw as she expected him to attack her while she was vulnerable... but Riley was just standing there.
"Why... didn’t you attack?" Silvie narrowed her eyes at him as she slowly managed to stand straight.
"Because this is a mock battle, Megagirl," Riley shrugged, "Mock battles are meant for training."
"Being distracted is part of training," Silvie muttered, steadying herself. "I was distracted."
"Mock battles are also for entertainment," Riley added, slowly raising one hand and miming a gun with his fingers. He pointed it casually at her feet. "For them... and for us."
"W—Kh!" Silvie was about to say something again, but she found herself losing balance—her foot flinging away from the ground that suddenly had a crack on it. She did, however, manage to regain her balance, but she dropped to one knee, clutching her foot in pain.
"Khkk!"
"Oh?" Riley tilted his head to the side, staring at Silvie with a curious expression on his face, "That was the same strength I used that shaved off the metal platform, Megagirl. I suppose that means that your body is more durable than steel?"
"You were trying to take my leg off?!" Silvie’s voice cracked into a scream as she glared at him. "I thought this was for entertainment!?"
"It is," Riley replied without any hesitation. Then he raised both hands, now both mimicking guns this time—aiming straight at her.
"And seeing your leg blown off would be very entertaining, Megagirl."
