Chapter 247: Chapter 247. Hostile Takeover

Inside a warehouse in a district under control by the Street Aristocrats, several workers were moving crates filled with precious smithing metals.

"Hurry up! I don’t want to spend all night with you stinky goons!" The foreman boomed.

"Pah! If you want us to be fast, why don’t you buy us some space rings to move these stuff, huh?" One of the workers complained.

"How dare you talk to me like that? Do you want a whooping?" The foreman threatened. ƒreewebɳovel.com

"Forget it. Space rings are not for poor people like us," another worker told the one who complained. "Just hurry and finish up here so we can go and join the festival at the city hall."

"Come on, man. Do you think they will let a ruffian like us join?"

"Aren’t it open to the public?"

"It might be announced like that, but surely kingdom soldiers are guarding the place to keep people from causing trouble. Do you think they will let underworld people like us anywhere near that festival? Unless you can afford fancy clothes and make yourselves look half-presentable, I’m pretty sure you will get kicked out as soon as you show your face there."

"This is why the boss asked us to move all this tonight," the foreman joined the conversation. "Everyone is at the festival. Fewer eyes to see us carrying all these smuggled goods. Now shut your mouths and move faster so we can get all this done as soon as possible!"

"I bet he has fancy clothes to go to that festival," The worker said about the foreman.

His friend laughed. "Yeah, that must be why he pushes us to finish quickly."

"Why you...," The foreman’s patience was running out. He was about to teach these disrespectful workers some manners when the wooden gate to the warehouse suddenly exploded to bits.

Everyone was startled by the occurrence. They were completely still as scores of people rushed through the broken gate. They all wore black suits and demon masks.

"Who... Who are you...!" The foreman finally spoke.

"I am the God of Death," The frontmost trespasser uttered as he waved his hand.

A flash of light was released from that hand. Before the foreman realized what happened, a knife had punctured his throat.

"Uffh...!" He wanted to speak but couldn’t. Blood filled his mouth. It spurted out when he tried to talk.

The foreman was a Beginning Transformation Stage cultivator. He had activated a defensive art that toughened his body when the intruders rushed in. Yet, the knife stabbed into his throat like a hot knife through butter. He was still trying to make sense of what had happened when he breathed his last as he dropped to the ground.

The knife Amon used to slay the foreman in one hit was a new knife he forged using the claw of the Cave Mantle Cat. He forged plenty of new knives since he slew plenty of Cave Mantle Cats during the Jue Ape mission. With these knives, he could even easily puncture the body of a Peak Transformation Stage cultivator.

His other members made short work of the workers. Within a short period, they had taken care of all the enemies inside the warehouse.

He gave an empty space ring to one of his subordinates and said, "Put all the smithing metals into this space ring. Torch the rest. We will move to the next target in ten minutes."

In different parts of the city, similar things occurred. Members of Sewer Snakes and Demon Gang broke into facilities run by Street Aristocrats. The unsuspecting crew guarding the facilities didn’t expect such large-scale raids. Some fought back as best they could. Many ran. The results were the same. The attackers won.

Sewer Snakes and Demon Gang hit all of Street Aristocrats’ secret hideouts. They knew about these secret hideouts due to investigations done throughout the years. Out of Amon’s suggestion, they sat on this information until they were ready to carry out one big assault like what they were doing now.

Street Aristocrats’ public establishments like the brothels were also targeted. All members of the Street Aristocrats were slain. As for the working girls, they were spared. However, they were told that they served a different master now.

The members of Sewer Snakes and Demon Gang advanced like a flood. They were unstoppable. The Street Aristocrats were spread out and unprepared. They could do nothing to stop the tide.

Dao Se’s platoon was in charge of targeting the base of Street Aristocrats. They stormed into the base and carried out a massacre. Dao Se himself didn’t waste time storming in through the front door like his people. He instead ran up the wall and entered from the seventh floor, like Amon did several years ago, except Amon used tools to help him reach this height.

This base had been repaired and renovated after Amon’s attack. The seventh floor was the top floor of the building. Aside from housing the main bedroom where Yan Ning was killed, this floor was also where Lu Zu’s office was located.

When Dao Se crashed through the window. He was ready to perform a first strike to wound Lu Zu. However, he didn’t find the Street Aristocrats’ leader. Inside the office was a different person, Fan Bo, who had interfered between his and Lu Zu’s fight at the Swirly Street District.

Fan Bo was at the door. He was about to go down to check the commotion when Dao Se crashed through the window.

"Where is Lu Zu?" Dao Se asked. The last intel before they carried out the assault said that Lu Zu was inside this base.

"He is not here," Fan Bo said as he zoomed out the door. He knew he wasn’t Dao Se’s opponent. His cultivation was at the Peak Transformation Stage. Dao Se was at the Beginning Mystic Stage.

"Don’t think you can run away!" Dao Se exclaimed. He chased Fan Bo.

When he passed the door Fan Bo had exited, he was greeted by uncountable images of an iron staff. In response, his fists also multiplied. Fists and staffs crisscrossed each other. Their collisions produced sparks and shockwaves. The exchange ended with one powerful shockwave that threw Fan Bo into the opposite side of the room.

He rebounded after slamming into the wall. He had to prop himself using his iron staff to avoid falling.

"Uhuk...!" He coughed blood. He then shouted, "Guards! Come up here! There are intruders!!"

"Save your breath," Dao Se said. "Can’t you hear the people down there are busy as well? No one will help you. Now, tell me where Lu Zu is. I will perhaps let you die with your corpse intact."

"Bastard!" Fan Bo cursed. "You are lucky our boss just left. He went to check the warehouse at the Black Alley District. If you chase him now, you can still catch him."

Fan Bo gave the information hoping that Dao Se would go after Lu Zu and leave him alone.

’Black Alley District...? Isn’t that among Lin Mo’s targets?’ Dao Se thought.

He almost went out to head to the Black Alley District when a thought crossed his mind. Perhaps it was not a bad thing if Lu Zu killed Amon. Amon was useful. But after tonight, he believed he could become the top dog of this city’s underworld even without Amon’s aid.

However, it would look bad if he backstabbed Amon. Everyone in his organization knew that he and Amon were allies. Betrayal was never appreciated. His people would have a different opinion of him if he betrayed Amon. But if it was Lu Zu who did the deed, it was a different matter.

He wanted his rivalry with Lu Zu to end tonight, but he probably could give Lu Zu an hour before he went to the Black Alley District.

With that thought, he returned his attention to Fan Bo. Fan Bo shivered when Dao Se’s gaze was on him.

"Now, I want you to spill everything worth knowing about your organization," Dao Se said with a wicked smile. "How long you can keep me interested is how long you will live."

Outside the warehouse of Black Alley District, Amon’s group gathered. This was the third and the last spot in their target list. After raiding the warehouse here, they were to rendezvous with the others at Street Aristocrats’ base. They would concentrate their troops and hammer that base with overwhelming force if Dao Se’s platoon hadn’t finished the job.

The same as the other places, they charged into this warehouse. Using surprise and ambush to catch the enemies off-guard and land the first strikes. These first strikes took out a good number of the enemies, thus making the remaining ones easier to deal with.

While many of the guards inside this warehouse were indeed surprised and caught off-guard, Amon was also surprised. That was because he recognized one of the people inside the warehouse.

That person was Lu Zu.
