Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 310. An Attempted Forced Arrest
Chapter 310: Chapter 310. An Attempted Forced Arrest
Wei Linkun and Yan Dose’s faces were ugly after hearing Amon’s explanation. They knew Amon was lying through his teeth but had nothing to prove otherwise.
Yong Baili’s face brightened up. He said, "Without solid proof, you can’t accuse our student. Please stop causing more trouble here."
Wei Linkun and Yan Dose’s scowls turned deeper upon hearing that. The others in their group also had scowling faces, except for Pu Zhang.
The old minister didn’t seem affected by their lack of evidence to convict Amon. He clapped his hand. A soldier came down the stairs.
"How is the search?" Pu Zhang asked the soldier.
"We are still searching, but we found nothing incriminating," the soldier answered.
Pu Zhang looked around the room. This basement was mostly empty. There was nothing to search for here. Considering it was a training space, that was not weird. He pointed at Amon and said, "Even though we don’t have enough evidence, we have suspicion. That is enough for a search. Give me your space ring."
"Senior minister, please consider our position. It will be bad for the Royal Academy’s reputation if you search our students without proper cause...," Lao Zen tried to persuade.
"I could care less about this academy’s reputation," Pu Zhang replied. "The reputation is already soiled for harboring a suspected criminal like him. If you prefer, I will pull my ranks. One way or another, I will have his space ring. Are you going to stand in my way?"
Lao Zen gritted his teeth. There was indeed nothing he could do. The principal was not in the academy. But even if she was, she could not override Pu Zhang’s authority.
Amon could see that his protector lost in terms of status. He decided not to waste time and took off his normal space ring. Pu Zhang’s presence was beyond his expectations. He didn’t expect Yan Clan to call such a big shot from the kingdom to deal with him. The position of senior minister was second only to the prime minister and the royal family. Amon stayed in the Royal Academy, waiting for the Yan Clan to arrive because he wanted the Royal Academy staff to support him out of this mess. The plan was ruined because of the presence of this one man.
The soldier came to take Amon’s space ring and handed it to Pu Zhang. Pu Zhang used force to intrude on the space ring but found nothing out of the ordinary.
"Take him back to the city hall," Pu Zhang announced. "We will interrogate him there."
"Senior minister...!" Lao Zen exclaimed. He was getting fed up with Pu Zhang’s overbearing act.
"As I said, I suspect him to be involved in the past serial killing in this city and the disappearance of Yan Fan," Pu Zhang announced. "My rank is enough to detain him for questioning. If you want me to call the soldiers up there to use force, I will. One way or another, I will have him! Move aside!"
Lao Zen was speechless by Pu Zhang’s domineering act. He didn’t know what to do.
Yan Wang chuckled. "There is no need to call the soldiers above. I am happy enough to assist in capturing that boy." His hands glowed again with menacing light.
"Ghh...," Lao Zen readied himself against Yan Wang.
However, Pu Zhang’s words froze him. "Stand down!"
Yan Wang laughed. "Haha! I’m sorry, head tutor. I mean no disrespect. I’m only carrying out the kingdom’s order."
But before he could lunge, another voice was heard. "Stand down!!"
They were the same words but uttered by a different person. The new voice sounded much younger. They turned around and saw Zhuan San coming down the stairs with Xa Jien following close behind.
Seeing the junior student, Yan Dose immediately scolded, "What the fuck are you here for? Scram! This has nothing to do with you!"
The others didn’t say anything, but their faces showed agreement with Yan Dose’s words, except for Pu Zhang. His indifferent face turned serious after seeing Zhuan San. He stammered, "Th–Thirteenth Prince... Why are you here...?"
"Thirteenth Prince?!"
Pu Zhang’s words took everyone aback except for Lao Zen.
"Thirteenth... Prince... Could your honor have been mistaken...? How can Zhuan San be the thirteenth prince?" Yan Dose asked.
"Zhuan San? His Highness’ name is not Zhuan San. It’s Huang San," Pu Zhang said. He bowed as Zhuan San, or Huang San, walked down the stairs.
The soldiers beside Pu Zhang, Lao Zen, and Yong Baili bowed as well. Wei Linkun, Gao Xi, Gao Zhong, and Yan Wang looked at each other before they also bowed.
Huang San stopped walking when he was next to Yan Dose. He turned to Yan Dose and asked, "Why are you not bowing? Are you trying to rebel?"
"Dose!"
The thunder in his father’s voice caused Yan Dose to drop to his knees.
"Forgive me, Your Highness! I wasn’t aware of your identity," Yan Dose pleaded.
Huang San didn’t spare Yan Dose another glance. He went to where Lao Zen and Amon were.
Amon didn’t act haughty. He also bowed when Huang San approached. A savior had arrived. It would serve him well to play along. He always knew Zhuan San was someone with a great influence in the kingdom. He just didn’t expect him to be a part of the royal family.
Huang San asked Lao Zen what was going on here. Lao Zen explained the gist of the matter. Amon added in on the details.
"In my opinion, there is not enough evidence to arrest my friend here," Huang San said after listening to the explanation.
"Your Highness," Pu Zhang uttered. "With all due respect. Even if we don’t have direct evidence, we have circumstantial evidence that puts him as a suspect. We need to interrogate him to prove that he is truly innocent."
"In that case, you can interrogate him right now," Huang San said.
"Your Highness, this..."
"What’s the matter? If all you need to do is ask questions, you can ask them with me present. Lin Mo here is my dear friend. I, of course, want him to be treated fairly, or do you intend to use some unexplainable method in your so-called interrogation?"
"I don’t dare...," Pu Zhang said.
"So? Ask," Huang San said.
Pu Zhang’s eyes twitched. He felt ashamed getting disrespected by one so young, even when this young one was a prince.
He took a deep breath and said, "Perhaps we have made a mistake. We will continue to look for more evidence. We will revisit this issue once we find them."
"That is wise," Huang San remarked.
"If I may ask, what are you doing here?" Pu Zhang asked. "I must admit I didn’t know you were no longer in the royal palace."
"Of course, you didn’t. Your concern is solely on my fourth brother," Huang San said. There was mockery in his tone. "As for why I am here. I am a student of this Royal Academy."
"A student? Why do you degrade yourself to study with the commoners? Surely, the education provided in the royal palace far surpasses this place."
Lao Zen and Yong Baili were displeased with the remarks.
Huang San smiled. He said, "I disagree, senior minister Pu Zhang. The royal palace indeed provided me with the best education, but it is missing one lesson."
"What might that be?" Pu Zhang asked.
"Social lesson. If I am to grow into a proper nobility, I need to learn how to socialize with my peers. I can’t have people holding my hands the entire time like the teachers in the royal palace tend to do. Also, although I agree the education inside the royal palace is better, it is not too far off from what was taught here. After all, it was my late mother who built this Royal Academy. As his son, it is natural for me to have the desire to experience my mother’s achievements."
"... I see. I asked His Majesty once why Qishurg City was given a high degree of autonomy these past few years. His Majesty never revealed the reason. This is one of the reasons I came here. I guess your presence here explains it all. You are the one being given the total authority of this city."
"In that case, you can return to the capital already," Huang San said.
Pu Zhang took another deep breath. "I suppose I have no choice. Farewell, Your Highness. Please, stay healthy."
Pu Zhang turned around and left after his words. Wei Linkun and Yan Dose were speechless. What about their objective to arrest Amon?
Gao Zhong looked at Yan Wang and shook his head. He left afterward.
Yang Wang looked at Amon, who returned his stare.
"Hmph! We will settle this another time," Yan Wang told Amon. He walked out while saying to the others, "Let’s go!"
The others followed him out.
After they were out, Lao Zen told Huang San, "It’s a good thing you came, Your Highness."
"Luckily, the messenger you sent for me managed to catch me. I was just about to go into the city for a walk," Huang San replied. He then turned to Amon. "I must know, though. Are you truly responsible for what they accuse you of?"
