Rise Of The Infinite Sovereign-Chapter 379: Kraken!
Chapter 379: Kraken!
Since his encounter with the shark, Ezra had faced three other beasts, sending all of them to Quartez.
As he went on, he was even ambushed by a large school of glowing fish.
As per their name, these were fishes holding out a small glowing orb above their heads, thus illuminating the darkness with white lights speckled with blue dots.
Females would be allured.
But if that was all there was, they would have long gone extinct.
The glowing lamps were there to lure in prey and obscure their sharp teeth from view along with the occasional flicker of lightning.
These things shot out lightning currents to paralyze their prey before tearing them apart, and as a school, the cumulative damage of lightning currents was tough to beat, making them predators in their own might.
Of course, when faced with Ezra who had lightning affinity, they were all helplessly killed, cooked by their own lightning before Ezra stored their corpse in his newly acquired space ring.
It would take too long to send each one to Quartez, Ezra rather not bother.
After an additional thirty minutes and six more encounters, Ezra confirmed that he was still indeed far from the bottom of the ocean as it seemed that every level of the ocean had its own separate ecosystem.
<It’s a whole new world down here. This is amazing>. Viprus let out his first compliment since the start of their journey.
’Indeed it is’ Ezra concurred.
<Hmm...I should take better looks at planets from now on. If there’s this many things I don’t know about on just one, I wonder how many more new things I will find in the others>
’Exactly’ Ezra replied.
Ezra didn’t waste time before burrowing deeper into the ocean, heading into a realm of pitch blackness that made the current darkness seem bright.
It took a minute at full speed to reach a depth Ezra could comfortably call the darkest part of the ocean.
It permeated with a stillness and silence that was a level beyond eerie, feeling as though one entered the darkest part of the mind, it was suffocating to say the least.
Staying here for thirty minutes would have a claustrophobic person lose their sanity, Ezra concluded.
He was unnerved by the silence, but he could see in the dark just fine.
Moreover, his darkness affinity already made him less prone to fear and panic.
Yet, he couldn’t approximate close or how far he was to the ocean’s bottom.
Looking around, he confirms that no living creature lay in sight, and after a bit of retrospection, he decides to swim in the direction to his left.
As he swam, he concealed himself with his darkness affinity, erasing his presence as he surveyed the surroundings, wondering what kind of creatures lived in this part of the sea.
His question was soon answered when whilst looking downward, he raises his head to find something enormous swimming above him.
With its body only centimeters away, Ezra could only see a portion of its huge underbelly.
Heading down deeper, the creature’s other features gradually come into view.
When it became small enough to fit Ezra’s vision, his eyes widened in alarm.
With enormous fins at the side, and an even larger tail, this creature swam leisurely through the pitch black waters, Ezra couldn’t tell whether it was a whale or a shark.
But none of this was enough to alarm him.
If not for the fact the creature was currently looking in his direction!
At this time, he couldn’t help but compare its size with that of the astral beast.
’It’s smaller than the astral beast, but not by a lot’ Ezra concluded.
At the same time, he could make out its features better now.
With its head shaped like the base of a spoon, and no look of ferocity whatsoever, Ezra concluded that this creature was a whale.
The beast seemed to stare in his direction and Ezra stared back, waiting for its attack.
However, his expectations were betrayed when the whale suddenly turned upright and simply continued on its way.
Ezra was perplexed, he was sure that it would attack, so why hadn’t it?
As he ruminated, his thoughts were disrupted by a familiar voice.
<This place is just like space> Viprus chimed in. <It feels empty but is filled with lots of things>
’Hmm...’
Ezra continued his journey, swimming in the opposite direction the whale went.
This was so because he felt the presence of something strong in that direction, perhaps it was the reason why the whale was heading elsewhere.
Ezra wondered what it was.
He began to wonder if he should’ve killed the whale and sent it to Quartez for research.
Ezra then decided that he would do as such to any creature he found from this moment on.
Fate seemed to make a mockery of him as he was unable to find any other creatures the further he advanced.
It affirmed to him that there was something there.
Upon reaching a certain threshold, Ezra realized what it was immediately.
’This...!’
His eyes constricted.
A creature was indiscriminately radiating its presence, using it to mark out areas beyond this point as its territory and as a warning to trespassers.
Normally, if any fish dared do this, it would have the entirety of all nearby predators grace it with their presence and tear it to shreds for such arrogance.
The problem was this pressure radiated was beyond that of an A-class beast which is equivalent to master rank and even an S-class which should be equivalent to the Grandmaster rank.
No, the pressure radiated was on the same level as someone of Mythic rank!
As the initial shock wore off, Ezra’s eyes turned cold, wanting to take out Skyfall before remembering that he had left it with Galvan.
’Doesn’t matter. These hands are enough’
Ezra stopped masking his presence and shot through the water like an arrow, heading straight for the creature using the pressure being radiated.
The creature would be wherever the presence originated from.
Despite moving at full speed, Ezra found himself going for ten seconds straight before arriving at a rock structure.
A large cave lay in his sights, formed from remains of some collapsed mountain, its entrance hollowed to allow entry.
Ezra could tell the creature he’d come searching for lay within this cave.
Just as he was thinking of how best to handle the situation, the creature moved.
Sa!
In the time it took to blink, a ghastly looking tentacle emerged from within the cave and struck, creating large ripples.
The strike that was deadly even for a fellow Mythic rank was casually evaded.
Afterward, Ezra casually slapped the tentacle, causing it pain as it hastily sucked back into the cave.
Then, there was a rumble!
A muffled rumble that shook the surroundings, sending waves of sand in all directions.
This Mythic rank creature, likely the apex predator of the entire ocean, was waking up!
Through the hollowed entrance, Ezra glimpsed its form, a creature with multiple tentacles.
Then, he met its gaze.
Two bright eyeballs covered in hues of orange and red reminiscent of the sunset glow. Each one was larger than Ezra’s whole figure.
After a three second stare, the eyes disappeared from view.
More tentacles emerged from the entrance, seven tentacles. This time, they did not latch for Ezra, but took a slow and steady rhythm, unhurried as they steadied themselves on the ocean floor.
Then, its gigantic head poked out the entrance. Slowly emerging from the cave, its shape is like that of an octopus but twenty times bigger.
From this alone, Ezra was almost certain he was meeting the creature regarded as a Myth.
A creature whose tale was known through the mouths of many sailors of old for its terror.
Renowned for a century before suddenly vanishing. Fading into legend to eventually become a tale used to scare children, thus making it very well known.
In front of him lay the deadliest creature in the ocean, undisputed and uncontested. There could not be another.
The Kraken!
With its head fully emerged, it carried an air of dignity similar to that of a champion as its eyes came alive, glowing. Thus illuminating Ezra’s figure, if only by a little bit.
Observing its features better, Ezra discovered that its skin was covered in scales.
’That’s weird’ Ezra thought. ’Why did it feel like stone when I hit it?’
Thanks to pitch blackness, Ezra was unable to make out the colours of its scales.
<It’s deep green>
’What?’
<The colour of its scales is deep green> Viprus clarified.
’Oh’ Ezra realized. ’Thank you’
<You’re welcome Champion>
’Call me Ezra from now on’
<...Alright>
Done with that, Ezra moved back a few metres, watching the creature exit the cave in its entirety, smiling all true as he savored the experience.
To see the Kraken this closely and remain without fear, if he had any regrets whilst growing stronger, they died out at this moment.
Power was truly the best.
A minute later, the Kraken had emerged in its entirety.
Hosting a total of fourteen tentacles, each at least two meters long. It towered almost five metres, staring at Ezra’s miniature figure, its eyes shone on him and looked like light from a lighthouse.
In response, Ezra let out his energy, watching with hands folded.
Unbelievably, the Kraken eyes narrowed, proving its intelligence.
The nuisance that had disturbed its slumber was actually a creature with formidable strength.
But that mattered little, it wouldn’t be an apex predator if it was one to avoid battles.
The Kraken raised its guard, now fully invested in killing the enemy in front of it, a nuisance no longer.
It raised its guard and in the same instant, lifted off the ground, spreading out its tentacles like an umbrella above Ezra’s figure, revealing a chasm of razor teeth hidden right underneath its enormous head.
’It’s exactly as described’ Ezra marvelled.
Its legend might be reduced to children’s stories, but its description remained accurate.
Done stretching, the Kraken struck without warning.
Thus kicking off the battle.
Seven tentacles struck at Ezra with frightening accuracy, each lethal enough to kill a grandmaster.
Hands still folded, Ezra avoided the first few strikes with only centimeters to spare, taking his time to observe its combat abilities and body movement.
Each tentacle strike made tremors in the sea, kicking up large bursts of sand wherever they landed.
As the first seven tentacles confirmed failure, the Kraken struck with the other seven right after. To which Ezra dodged once again with little difficulty.
The moment that failed, the Kraken spread out the tentacles around Ezra and started spinning, kicking up a small whirlpool while rapidly closing its tentacles to prevent Ezra from escaping.
Abundant experience made sure that the Kraken did not lack killing moves.
On cue, Ezra made a hasty escape from the intended encirclement.
Watching the Kraken spin, Ezra was assured of his deduction.
’There’s no one that beat this thing in water except for me’
Without him, this creature was the planet’s strongest.
Done stretching. Ezra unfolds his hands, considering his options.
<Are you going to kill it?> Viprus asked.
Ezra subconsciously nodded. The death of this beast would definitely do the planet a lot of good-
Ezra’s train of thought halted. ’Would it?’
He was convinced that the Kraken in front of him was the same one told in the stories from centuries ago because that was the only way to explain its strength.
It had grown stronger over centuries, because there was no way sailors would’ve survived its attack otherwise.
In other words, it had been in the sea for that long and had caused little harm to the world above, casually sleeping its days away.
Was there really a reason he had to kill it?
There had to be other options.
’I wonder if I can make it a pet’ Ezra suddenly thought.
<I’m not sure, but it should be possible> Viprus replied, affirming Ezra’s thoughts.
Killing it was unnecessary.
If it ever decided to run amok, he’d be there to put it in its place.
With that decided, Ezra shot towards the Kraken who was once again sending tentacles towards him and grabbed a tentacle.
Without stopping, he begins ascending to the surface, dragging the unwilling Kraken along.
Going for one minute straight, Ezra found pulling the Kraken with one tentacle insufficient and grabbed it by the head, giving it a light punch to the Kraken’s eye to cease its flailing.
It took ten minutes at full speed to reach the surface, thanks to the water pressure.
At this time, the Kraken was looking absolutely horrible.
Its clean skin was nowhere to be seen as many scales had peeled off, making it look hideous.
This was caused by the abrupt change in environment-the salt levels at the top and bottom of the oceans were different, and as much as the Kraken was strong, it was still an aquatic creature.
Such abrupt change was too jarring, causing the Kraken’s body to react like such.
But, proving its mantle, new scales began being regenerated soon after-it was adapting in real time.
Bursting out of the water, the Kraken’s enormous body was graced with sunlight after decades of darkness.
It’s reaction...
*KRAAA!*
A guttural scream of pain, one from the very depths of its soul so loud it created a wave as its exposed skin let out fumes.
No wonder! It was being cooked alive!
The scream was so honest that Ezra felt pity.
To alight it from its pain, Ezra made haste, mobilizing his ice affinity at full power and froze the Kraken whole, turning it into a live ice sculpture with its horrid expression plastered, but its eyes retained some range of movement.
’Eh...Should I have killed it instead?’ Ezra wondered looking at the pitiful Kraken before shaking his head.
With the Kraken ice sculpture in hand, Ezra activated <Sovereign’s Movement>, vanishing from above the ocean to appear in Quartez.
The sun’s radiance fell on him, casting a grotesque shadow over Quartez.
Ezra burst into chuckles thinking about the expression of those below.
------------
Thinking about this from the Kraken’s perspective...
Aigooo! I was sleeping peacefully and someone random cretin woke me up! Then he beat me up, took me up to the surface to burn my eyes and then trapped me in ice!
What did I do to deserve this?! This is too unfair!
I’m just a Kraken that wants to sleep!
This is bullying!
