Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 428 - 426: Reunion (Part 4)
As soon as Old Lin shouted, the previously bewildered group immediately had a target, especially the "Runners" who accelerated instantly.
Lin Junfu had expected this and quickly relied on the surrounding abandoned vehicles to brace himself for battle.
Once the "Runners" moved out, Wei Dazhuang immediately protected Wei Yang and the others as they exited the alleyway.
After all, compared to the slower "Pacers," the "Runners," who clearly understood running, posed a greater threat.
And just as they were advancing, Old Lin had already stood against the charging "Runners."
One head each, and since these beasts can’t climb, and given that the vehicles block them, their numbers won’t be too many even if they could climb.
Thus, using this natural advantage, Lin and Hu temporarily stabilized the battle for a while.
Yet as the two groups drew closer, new problems emerged.
Old Lin, focusing on rescuing the trapped Wei Yang, hadn’t considered what to do next after bringing them out of the alley.
Run? How far can you run on two legs? Can you really play hide and seek with all the zombies in the city?
And if you don’t run, how will you inform Xu Renjie and the others about the situation at the stadium?
Faced with this question, Old Lin found himself in a bit of a tough spot.
Clearly, with things at this point, finding a place to hide again seemed a bit ridiculous.
If that’s the case, what was the point of leaving the shop with so much effort? Staying inside would be much safer.
But the beasts obviously had no intention of giving Lin Junfu much time to think, as a new wave of attacks arrived again.
"Brother Dazhuang, what should we do next? We can’t really help Lin over there!" Wei Yang, aware of the situation, expressed her concerns while fleeing.
To this, Wei Dazhuang glanced around, then patted Ah Cheng’s shoulder, saying, "Xiaocheng, take care of Wei Yang and the others here for me."
"Huh? What about you? What are you going to do?" Ah Cheng asked puzzledly.
"I’m going over there to see if I can find a vehicle with some luck!"
With that said, Wei Dazhuang turned around and ran to the side.
There was a White Horse bus, and its gaping door indicated it had been attacked.
Based on Wei Dazhuang’s own deduction, when the tragedy occurred, the driver, acting on instinct, probably wouldn’t have thought to remove the key.
And if his guess was correct, he might be able to start the bus.
But before confirming this, he had a few things to take care of first.
He rushed onto the bus without any hindrance, and the wandering ’passengers’ immediately launched an attack on the uninvited "intruder."
For these already transformed humans, Wei Dazhuang didn’t hesitate, swiftly taking down one of the beasts with his club.
After taking down one, Wei Dazhuang turned and attacked another, restraining the latter’s neck before quickly pushing forward, the force sending the beasts in the back row tumbling to the ground.
Once the beasts were down, he didn’t hesitate to strike them with his club.
Yet his venture wasn’t entirely smooth, for after dealing with the beasts behind him, the real threat arrived.
It was a Climber, which seized the moment when Wei Dazhuang was engrossed in killing, silently creeping from the side chair to close in on him.
Wei Dazhuang was completely unaware of this because before deciding to take down the beasts behind him, he had already assessed the situation on the field.
In his view, the zombies ahead couldn’t pose a threat before he finished off the beasts at the bus’s rear.
However, the emergence of the Climber as a new "adaptive evolution type" clearly disrupted his expectations.
This was Wei Dazhuang’s first encounter with a Climber, and from the very first moment, he felt the latter’s power.
The beast leaped directly from the chair onto him, catching the unprepared Wei Dazhuang by surprise and pinning him onto a seat.
Fortunately, Wei Dazhuang’s rich combat experience kicked in, and he instinctively raised his club to protect his chest. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Thanks to this instinctive reaction, otherwise, just that stealthy assault might have allowed the beast to bite through Wei Dazhuang’s neck.
Being forced into such a predicament by the beast also stirred Wei Dazhuang’s fighting spirit.
Glaring at the beast’s continuously reaching mouth, Wei Dazhuang squinted his eyes, angrily drew out his left arm, and cursed as he thrust the club into it.
"Bite! Bite! Bite, my ass!"
The blocked beast still struggled to bite, and Wei Dazhuang could even clearly hear the terrifying sound of its teeth scraping against the club.
But he had no time to play with the beast now. With a powerful knee jerk, he flipped onto the beast, raised his hand over the club he had just inserted, and smacked it down forcefully.
One hit! Two hits! Three hits, the sharp club directly pierced through the beast’s throat and into its brain, making its head tilt and die instantly.
Having dealt with the Climber, the bus’s threat still lingered, but its unexpected appearance completely disrupted his strategic plans.
No sooner had he gotten up than the remaining "passengers" in the bus pressed forward.
"Uncle Dazhuang! I’ll help you!" A rather young voice shouted from the front of the bus, and soon a slender figure charged up.
This should count as Ah Cheng’s first active confrontation with the zombies, having been accustomed to protection by his older brothers and uncles.
But people inevitably grow up, and after so much joy and sorrow, the sense of responsibility hidden in Ah Cheng’s heart was slowly growing.
Especially after witnessing Yan Hua’s tragic death, he suddenly realized the need to bear the responsibility of protecting Fangfang like his brothers once did.
The coat’s edge stabbed fiercely into the beast’s head. Although Ah Cheng’s moves were a bit awkward, he finally took an important step forward.
Fear is something that, as long as you dare to face it, must eventually bow at your feet.
Thanks to Ah Cheng’s arrival, Wei Dazhuang felt much less pressure, and after the duo briefly cooperated, there were no upright zombies left inside the bus.
Wei Dazhuang stomped on the last zombie’s head with force and quickly made his way to the driver’s seat, ignoring the bloodstains on himself as he reached for the bus key with his dirty hands.
"Woo woo woo~ woo woo woo~" Just like with Old Lin’s test run, the bus let out a mournful howl.
However, such a response was understandable given long-term inactivity, unpredictable situations were inevitable.
But fortunately, heaven didn’t trouble the survivors this time. These White Horse buses, newly put into use just before the apocalypse, awoke from their long slumber after a few painful groans.
