Chapter 153: Chapter 152: The Eve of the Offensive (4th release! 2500 monthly votes bonus chapter!)
At twelve o’clock noon on the third day, deep within Biland Island.
In a temple that should have been abandoned for tens of thousands of years, a group of Magic Thieves had turned these temple ruins into their stronghold.
The Magic Thieves had also constructed a multitude of defensive offenses here, like explosive Magic Power traps and automatically targeting Magic Defense Towers. Denghis Xisi was not the first Magic Thief to set foot on this island.
Years ago, his loyal followers had already started using this temple as the foundation to build… the nation he wanted.
But Denghis Xisi had no intention of becoming the king of the nation the Magic Thieves were building; there was another ruler entirely. He was just one of the many builders of this nation.

And now Denghis Xisi was introducing the nation’s first guest visitor to a few of the ‘little pets’ raised by this nation.
...
“What’s wrong? Bishop Senna, you seem a bit overheated,” said Denghis Xisi with his hands clasped behind his back. The scenery reflected in his round-framed glasses was that of a subterranean cavern where copious amounts of lava spewed and dripped down.
This was the most sacred location at the very bottom of the sole temple ruins.
Bishop Senna, from the Empire of the Radeon, had his wrinkled and slightly plump face now covered with sweat. The reason he was sweating was not because the surrounding environment was too hot, but because of the enormous figure materializing before him.
A giant dragon, possibly twenty meters in length, had protruded its head from the Magma Pool. The dragon’s pale red pupils stared at Bishop Senna, and its slightly agape maw seemed to tell the bishop that even his corpulent body wouldn’t suffice to floss its teeth!
“This is one of our little pets; don’t worry, it won’t eat you. To it, you’re about as much as a bug, not even enough to fill its belly,” Denghis Xisi said.
“You… Why can you control the monsters on this island?” Bishop Senna was beginning to think that cooperating with the Magic Thieves was a mistake.
“Why? Because we belong here, but a group of outsiders has invaded our nation,” Denghis Xisi said as he took off his round glasses and wiped them with his hand.
“Are you going to eliminate them now?”
Bishop Senna’s face relaxed a bit when he heard Denghis Xisi mention the invaders; the only unforeseen element of this plan was the sudden appearance of these invaders.
“Eliminate them? No, their power is too strange and formidable. A direct confrontation at this stage would result in heavy losses. I won’t let my apprentices and children go up to fight to their deaths, so we must wait…” Denghis Xisi’s gaze shifted back to the dragon emerging from the lava, “but they are holding something that belongs to us, something very important, and we must take it back.”
“Take it back? What is it?” Bishop Senna felt uneasy. If the Magic Thieves couldn’t contend with the invaders… waging a full-scale war against them wasn’t a good choice.
“Teacher! I have brought the person from the Abyss Temple,” announced a Magic Thief apprentice, suddenly entering the cavernous space with lava flows, interrupting the conversation between Bishop Senna and Denghis Xisi.
Bishop Senna turned to see a figure in a black suit entering the cave. His expression soured because this figure was one of the members of the invaders!
“Hello, hello there, I am Can Xin, president of the Abyss Temple. What exactly is it that we’re here to discuss?”
Can Xin came alone because this hidden mission was restricted to only one participant, and he had indeed received this mission.
The dynamic mission system of the Holy Spirit is effective in such circumstances, where the name of the hidden mission is ‘Hidden Mission·Collaboration Intent with the Magic Thieves, Mission Description: The forces of the Abyss Temple have caught the attention of the Magic Thieves. They seem to want to conspire with you on some nefarious plan. Will you accept the invitation? Mission Reward: ?.’
Most hidden mission rewards are unknown, meaning it’s up to one’s charisma and negotiating skills.
Thus, in order to succeed in this hidden mission, Can Xin had stacked his charisma to thirty-seven using fashion and Special Equipment, resulting in him looking like the Mad Hatter from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, complete with rabbit ears.
“I want to know who your enemies are,” Denghis Xisi asked Can Xin as soon as he approached.
If a group of sacred spirits had rushed in, Denghis Xisi might have been on guard, but now there was only Can Xin present, and Can Xin had truly come alone without any schemes or tricks, a straightforwardness that took Denghis Xisi by surprise.
“Enemy? Isn’t that you guys?” Can Xin pointed to the health bar above Denghis Xisi’s head, which was so red it had turned purple. In Can Xin’s eyes, Denghis Xisi was a humanoid lord-level boss, one that could drop epic equipment upon death.
It was the same for the dragon behind Denghis Xisi, but he still restrained himself, for Can Xin always felt that this hidden quest would have some particularly good rewards.
Can Xin’s remark caused Bishop Sena great tension. He glanced at Denghis Xisi, and the apprentices immediately entered a battle-ready state.
“Besides us?” Denghis Xisi also didn’t understand what Can Xin meant. When he said this, there was no threat implied, he was merely stating the reality.
Can Xin’s current attitude was not so much looking down on everyone, but rather not considering the Magic Thieves around him a threat at all.
“The various big monsters on this island, oh! You are the villainous forces, so you must be planning to have us switch sides, right?” Can Xin wasn’t new to playing dumb; he was quite adept at it. He thought for a moment and then immediately said, “Let me guess… when you think about it, we do have quite a few enemies. Mad Cola Fans, Night Sprinters, Dancing Nuclear… they can all be considered enemies.”
“Dancing Nuclear.” Denghis Xisi repeated the term and then asked, “So, are you interested in joining us to destroy Dancing Nuclear?”
“Yes, yes, but the question is, what reward will you give us?”
Can Xin had already had his share of feuds with Dancing Nuclear, from disputes to sacred spirits, and even among the fans. The feud between the Abyss Temple and Dancing Nuclear was too extensive to be covered in just a thousand words or two.
In essence, it was competition between China’s first and second esports clubs.
If Can Xin could undermine Dancing Nuclear’s influence within the sacred spirits, it would surely be a great achievement, and even without recognition, it would be a very fulfilling thing for him to do.
“Reward?” Denghis Xisi fell into thought. He didn’t believe the various amazing Magic Wands and robes urgently needed by the world’s Mages would tempt these sacred spirits. He turned his gaze towards the dragon swimming in the magma behind him and said, “To join forces and destroy a common enemy is a win-win situation, but I’ve decided to gift you this dragon as a token of our cooperation, on the condition that Dancing Nuclear is completely eliminated afterwards.”
“What… what… what? Give away a lord-level monster just like that? As a pet? Wouldn’t that be too unbalancing? No, becoming a pet should involve some level adjustments, but still, it’s freaking awesome!”
Can Xin could no longer keep calm, because the sacred spirit world hadn’t yet launched the virtual pet system, and this NPC came offering a level fifty lord right off the bat; moreover, it was a dragon that looked so cool it literally spewed magma!
“When does the mission start?” Can Xin could hardly wait to go to war with the Dancing Nuclear Guild.
“In forty-seven minutes. You should know where Dancing Nuclear’s stronghold is. We’ll act as the vanguard, and we hope to see your members there when the attack begins,” Denghis Xisi said.
“Ah? Aren’t we going to act together?”
Can Xin had thought that the Magic Thieves would become his subordinates in this mission.
“Unfortunately… we still cannot trust you. You should leave now, and I hope you’ll lead the soldiers of the Abyss to share in the joy of victory with us when the attack begins,” Denghis Xisi made a gesture of invitation.
Can Xin had already started to gather his members in the group chat. Out of consideration for secrecy, he hadn’t revealed the details of the mission, and after Denghis Xisi made the gesture, Can Xin left the temple of the Magic Thieves, unobstructed by anyone.
“Attack the invaders’ stronghold? How… are we going to attack?” Bishop Sena watched as the Magic Thieves began to gather. They were already attempting to muster their forces.
But the invaders had long since established defenses at the edge of the island, and the Magic Thieves couldn’t fully tame the monsters that inhabited the forest. A direct attack would be akin to suicide.
“Hold your breath, Bishop Sena,” Denghis Xisi said these words, and the giant dragon behind them suddenly opened its massive jaws, swallowing Denghis Xisi and Bishop Sena.
After the dragon consumed the two men, it leaped into the Magma Pool behind it. Several more dragons of the same species emerged from the pool, one by one devouring the Magic Thieves standing on the platform before diving into the flowing magma.
