Chapter 604: Didn’t Expect We Came All This Way for Nothing

The four figures were Song Zhenfei, Liu Yuntian, Zhang Changheng, and Wei Jincheng.

At a glance, they saw Sun Yifan standing hesitantly outside.

Zhang Changheng growled, “Sun Yifan! Where are Xing Zhong and Liu Yuncui? Did they already go in?!”

Liu Yuntian sneered, “As a disciple of the Sun Moon Sect, you’re actually helping villains like Xing Zhong and Liu Yuncui? You’re a disgrace to your master’s name.”

Song Zhenfei and Wei Jincheng simply looked at him, half-smiling.

Sun Yifan shuddered immediately.

He might be a formation expert, but facing four Nirvana Realm cultivators at once would indeed be… a slight problem.

Sun Yifan pointed at the mist. “Xing Zhong and Liu Yuncui have already gone in.”

Wei Jincheng looked at the churning fog and asked thoughtfully, “You didn’t break the formation?”

Song Zhenfei also asked with some surprise, “I remember Fellow Daoist Sun’s formation skills are quite advanced—one of the rare talents in the Luo Xing Sea Region. You couldn’t break this mist formation?”

Sun Yifan gave an awkward smile.

In the end, he had no choice but to lower his voice and say, “This formation is different from most mist arrays—far more complex.”

“I must admit my knowledge was lacking. I failed to break it and have brought shame to my sect.”

Song Zhenfei exchanged glances with the others, clearly surprised.

When they had come over, they’d even prepared for the worst.

They hadn’t expected that Xing Zhong’s group couldn’t even break the formation.

“So Xing Zhong and Liu Yuncui just forced their way in like that?” Zhang Changheng pressed.

Sun Yifan recounted everything that had happened without leaving anything out.

After hearing this, Wei Jincheng let out a strange chuckle. “You all bombarded the mist for a long time, but it didn’t weaken at all—then suddenly, a passage opened up?”

“Don’t you find that a little suspicious?”

Sun Yifan seemed to realize something. His expression changed drastically.

Wei Jincheng looked at Song Zhenfei with deep meaning in his tone. “Brother Song, this young friend of yours may not be simple.”

Song Zhenfei laughed heartily. “The moment he publicly exposed Xing Zhong’s scheme, I knew he wasn’t an ordinary person!”

“So what now—are we just going to stand here and watch?” Liu Yuntian asked casually.

Song Zhenfei was just about to speak after thinking for a moment,

when suddenly, sword energy shot into the sky from within the mist, followed by the roar of tigers and the cry of dragons spreading outward.

Soon, the mist scattered like the receding tide.

The true form of Qingxuan Island was revealed before them.

At the center of the island’s martial arena, a young man in black stood calmly.

Beneath his feet lay two lifeless corpses.

They were none other than Xing Zhong and Liu Yuncui.

Their bodies were covered in sword wounds, their eyes wide open, filled with unwillingness and disbelief.

As if they could never have imagined dying here.

Shen Mo smiled and cupped his hands to the crowd. “Greetings, fellow Daoists.”

Zhang Changheng shot forward at once.

But he didn’t speak to Shen Mo—instead, he quickly examined Xing Zhong and Liu Yuncui.

Confirming that they were truly dead,

he said helplessly, “Why’d you kill them? I haven’t even avenged my grudge yet.”

Shen Mo looked confused.

Song Zhenfei gave a helpless smile. He walked over to Shen Mo with Liu Yuntian and Wei Jincheng, explaining the situation.

Once he finished, he looked Shen Mo up and down seriously, as though seeing him for the first time.

“Fellow Daoist Shen—no, Brother Shen—I truly didn’t expect that you’d be able to slay both Xing Zhong and Liu Yuncui!”

“Looks like you’re not just at Half-Step Nirvana—you’re truly in the Nirvana Realm, and with quite a few Dao patterns too!”

Liu Yuntian also laughed heartily. “Didn’t expect we came all this way for nothing.”

Wei Jincheng chuckled oddly. “No matter—it’s good we didn’t need to act.”

Song Zhenfei grew more delighted the longer he looked at Shen Mo, genuinely happy for his friend.

“All of you here are friends. Qingxuan Island is usually quite lonely—why don’t you come in and sit for a while? Let’s have a good talk.”

Shen Mo said with a smile.

Liu Yuntian gave a slight nod. “Good. I’ve only recently come out of seclusion and was just worrying I had no one to talk to.”

Wei Jincheng replied casually, “I don’t mind—either way is fine.”

Zhang Changheng sighed lightly. “With Liu Yuncui dead, my wish has been fulfilled. I suppose it’s time to sit and talk with fellow Daoists.”

Sun Yifan gave an awkward smile. “I won’t stay. I’ll take my leave first.”

“Farewell, everyone—may fate bring us together again.”

With that, he turned and left without a glance back.

As if afraid Song Zhenfei and the others might strike him from behind.

“What’s this about?” Shen Mo raised an eyebrow.

He was very confident in his formation skills.

He had been in closed-door cultivation the whole time.

He hadn’t known about the earlier events

until Xing Zhong and Liu Yuncui began their full-force assault on the formation. Only then did he respond, deliberately loosening the array to lure them in.

Song Zhenfei explained Sun Yifan’s identity.

At the end, he added with a teasing tone, “He was basically in league with Xing Zhong and Liu Yuncui—but he only came because he owed Xing Zhong a favor.”

“No wonder he didn’t dare stay a moment longer.”

Shen Mo couldn’t help but laugh. “So that’s how it is.”

A while later, the five of them sat in the main hall of Qingxuan Palace.

Liu Yuntian remarked, “That Sun Yifan is a well-known formation expert in the Sun Moon Sect. There are even rumors that Elder Ximen of the sect intends to take him as a disciple.”

“Among the younger generation, his formation mastery is top-tier.”

“Unless he’s facing some ancient monster who’s been studying for a thousand years, he doesn’t lose to anyone.”

“To think he couldn’t even break your formation—his Dao heart must have suffered damage.”

Zhang Changheng, Wei Jincheng, and Song Zhenfei all laughed.

Their conversation flowed smoothly.

Song Zhenfei was a straightforward man, loyal to his friends.

Most of the people he befriended were of good character as well.

Wei Jincheng, for instance, had been saved by Song Zhenfei once, and so was willing to befriend him.

He was, in truth, a demonic cultivator.

But demonic cultivators only pursued freedom and living as they pleased.

Many so-called righteous cultivators boasted of justice and virtue while secretly committing heinous acts—those were the truly despicable ones.

Through this conversation, and by consulting his life panel, Shen Mo had a fairly good understanding of these men.

They were all people worth befriending.

“Fellow Daoist Shen, truly remarkable—so young and already in the Nirvana Realm, and even a formation expert. Tsk, tsk,” Liu Yuntian said with admiration.

Zhang Changheng studied Shen Mo closely. “I’d guess you’re not even five hundred years old. What sect were you from? With such talent, you must have been famous early on.”

Song Zhenfei seemed to recall something and suddenly said, “I heard that some Sovereign Realm powerhouses dislike being tied down—they like to leave their sects and wander the world. When they encounter a promising talent, they take the time to teach them. Could it be, Fellow Daoist Shen, that you’re one of those?”

Liu Yuntian, Zhang Changheng, and Wei Jincheng all froze slightly,

their gazes toward Shen Mo filled with envy.

They had long heard the same rumor.

Indeed, some Sovereign Realm masters enjoyed roaming and recruiting disciples.

Zhang Changheng chuckled. “Isn’t that exactly what happened with that Young Talisman King of the Heavenly Talisman Sect? He started as just a little Qi Condensation rogue cultivator here in the Luo Xing Sea Region. Tried to join the Sun Moon Sect several times and got rejected.”

“But he had extraordinary talent in talismans, and an elder of the Heavenly Talisman Sect, who was traveling outside, took him as a disciple.”

“In just three hundred years, he reached Nirvana Realm. Now he’s already gone to the Inner Sea and become a beloved disciple of the Heavenly Talisman Sect’s elders.”
