Seven Sins System Chapter 394. Bare Minimum

“We are in the middle of a mission,” she reminded me.

I nodded, acknowledging her point. "I can curse them and hypnotize them," I countered. "They will still take us, and they won't feel anything until the time has come," I explained, trying to make her see my perspective.

"Just hypnotize them," she insisted firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument.

I sighed. "Right," I muttered begrudgingly, conceding to her request.

With a resigned shrug, I snapped my fingers and called upon my skills.

'Hypnosis!'

[Hypnosis skill has been used!]

The invisible ripples of my hypnotic energy filled the air. It was like casting a spell of oblivion, erasing their memories and manipulating their minds.

The effects of my hypnosis weren't immediately visible, as they were still frozen in place due to her skills. But I could sense the subtle shift in the atmosphere.

"Thanks," she said softly, her voice barely audible.

"Don't thank me," I muttered, my annoyance palpable in my voice. I shifted back into my previous position, pretending to faint once again. It was a feeble attempt to conceal the frustration coursing through me. The whole situation was rubbing me the wrong way, and I couldn't shake off the irritation.

"Why are you mad?" she inquired.

I turned to look at her, our eyes locking in a silent exchange. “Because if you were really mine, I'd have already taken care of those bastards,” I retorted. It was true; if she belonged to me, I wouldn't hesitate to unleash hellfire upon anyone who dared to harm her. “Yet you won't let me carry out even the bare minimum punishment on them," I hissed in displeasure.

“Cursing them isn't a minimum punishment,” she countered, her tone measured yet firm.

"It is," I asserted firmly, my voice carrying a hint of defiance. "By my standards, it's the least they deserve," I added, my frustration seeping into my words.

With an annoyed snort, I shut my eyes, hoping to drown out the aggravation pulsating within me. “I know they're nothing compared to you,” I continued, my tone sharpening with each word. “But even knowing that, I wanted to unleash my curse on them when they dared to lay a finger on you. If you hadn't intervened with your powers, they'd already be under my curse," I confessed. I wanted her to understand the depth of my anger, to grasp the extent to which I was willing to protect her, even at the cost of my own principles.

"You're lying, right?" she questioned, her disbelief evident in her voice.

I scoffed, a bitter smile tugging at the corners of my lips. “Do you think I'd lie about something like this?” I retorted, my eyes remaining shut as I spoke. “If I told you what I said was the truth, would you believe me that easily?” I asked without opening my eyes.

That managed to silence her. I could sense her contemplation.

“Just concentrate on the mission. I won't talk nonsense anymore," I declared, my voice firm and resolute. I reminded myself that getting entangled in emotions was a luxury I couldn't afford, especially not now.

She regarded me with an inscrutable expression, her eyes betraying a hint of reluctance. It was as if she wanted to speak, but hesitated at the precipice of uncertainty. Yet, before she could voice her thoughts, she seemed to reconsider, opting instead for silence.

With a deep breath, she settled beside me and lay down. The atmosphere inside the van shifted. The kidnappers, their confusion evident in their furrowed brows and exchanged glances, seemed uncertain of what had transpired in those moments of silence.

Suddenly, the screech of brakes pierced the air, jolting the van and its occupants. The abrupt halt sent ripples of motion, causing us to sway and lurch with the sudden stop. Yet, despite the unexpected disruption, we remained committed to our charade, maintaining our pretense of unconsciousness. We lay still, our bodies unmoving.

"Hey! Be careful!" grumbled one of the kidnappers in annoyance.

"Oh, sorry!" the driver responded hastily, his voice tinged with urgency.

The exchange was brief. The kidnappers exchanged puzzled glances, their brows furrowed in confusion.

The atmosphere inside the van was thick with uncertainty, the only sound the faint hum of the engine as it idled in the stillness. For a moment, it seemed as though time had frozen, the van suspended in a state of suspended animation as they grappled with the sudden turn of events.

"Do you know what just happened?" said one of them in confusion, breaking the uneasy silence.

"We're taking these prisoners to the leader, right?" another responded, his voice tinged with uncertainty.

“Yes. But it seems like we were talking about something earlier," said another, his tone filled with disbelief.
