She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!-Chapter 253: Must You Marry Your Savior After Being Rescued from the Water? (Part 24)
Lanru County, Lanyin Academy.
Ying Bairong returned to his room to fetch something, but just as he entered, an object flew towards him, startling him. Before he could dodge, the object accurately landed in his collar.
At the same time, a hoarse voice sounded: "Don’t make a sound, the message has been delivered, see for yourself."
Immediately, a figure leapt out the window, leaving him barely any time to see. Still shaking, Ying Bairong took a deep breath. He wanted to call someone, but the person had already gone. Recalling what the person had told him, he lowered his head and discovered that there was indeed a letter stuck in his collar.
Thus, he gave up calling for help, closing the door tightly and taking the letter in his hand.
The person likely didn’t mean to harm him. If they wanted his life, the flying object would have been a knife, and not even an Immortal could save him.
Moreover, he was just a small scholar with no enmity with anyone, so it shouldn’t warrant such an expert to harm him.
Just as he was about to open the letter, footsteps approached from outside. He quickly stuffed the letter into his sleeve pocket.
The door was pushed open, and Qin Cheng walked in.
He glanced around the room, seeing Ying Bairong searching for something, and asked, "Brother Ying, weren’t you coming back to fetch something? Why is the door closed while you’re searching? The light isn’t that good, right?"
Ying Bairong chuckled: "I closed it out of habit, didn’t really notice."
Qin Cheng nodded lightly, not suspecting a thing.
"By the way, Brother Ying, soon the maple leaves will be at their reddest. How about we invite a few people to enjoy the maple leaves together then?" Qin Cheng stroked his chin, "We’ll go during the day and invite more people, so it shouldn’t be so unlucky. Not everything unlucky happens to us, right? This period has been stifling, we can’t stay away everywhere out of fear, don’t you think?"
His words made sense, yet Ying Bairong felt suspicion, unsure if Qin Cheng’s invitation was really just to enjoy the maple leaves or if he had another motive. But it was all speculation with no evidence.
"Let me think about it, I have to visit home in a few days, not sure if there’s anything going on there. If not, I might go during my break." He planned to politely refuse, saying he had family matters. He didn’t quite trust Qin Cheng.
If the other insisted, it would certainly mean trouble.
If he didn’t press on, maybe they’d invite him again next time, and it would become difficult to refuse. Social interactions weren’t his forte and it would do him no good to avoid it. When the time comes, he’ll seek the County Magistrate’s help for two people to accompany him.
The excuse for others would be that he was startled last time, making sense.
"Alright." Qin Cheng didn’t push further, taking the book he needed, "Have you found it? If so, let’s go."
Ying Bairong picked up the book and followed him out.
His mind was preoccupied with the letter. After a few steps, he handed the book to Qin Cheng: "I need to visit the restroom, Brother Qin, could you take the book for me? I might have eaten something bad today."
"Sure." Qin Cheng didn’t suspect a thing and left with Ying Bairong’s book.
In the restroom, once Ying Bairong confirmed no one noticed, he crouched and took out the letter to read. After quickly finishing the content, his face darkened.
The letter said that Shi Wen and Qin Cheng were plotting against him.
Shi Wen knew an expert with great skills, and he wouldn’t be able to escape from his abilities.
They would have Qin Cheng invite him to enjoy the maple leaves. If he agreed, those people would make a move while he headed home and kidnap him. The kidnapper would be that female bandit who appeared last time. The excuse was that she had an infatuation with him, couldn’t let go, and would even drug him. But of course, he wouldn’t comply, and they would relax their guard, allowing him to escape. Then, he would encounter Shi Wen, leading to an inevitable situation with her.
If he refused to go enjoy the maple leaves, they would abduct him on his way home, and the rest would play out the same.
The ultimate goal was to push him and Shi Wen into an inevitable relationship.
As soon as the letter mentioned the maple leaves, Ying Bairong immediately believed its content. As for the person who broke into his room and helped him, he didn’t know why, but assumed it wasn’t out of malice. Maybe they had a grudge against the people helping Shi Wen? Or perhaps they were just heroes righting a wrong.
Qin Cheng, Shi Wen, were these cousins really not letting him go?
He wasn’t a fool. If what the letter said was true, then the previous incidents were mostly their schemes.
Not only was he being schemed against, but that Miss Lin from the Lin Family was probably part of their scheme too.
The first time he fell into the water, Miss Lin admitted to it openly, so there was no need to have any entanglements with Shi Wen.
The second time, when the bandits kidnapped people, Miss Lin’s escape changed everything. Had she not escaped, the bandits wouldn’t have retreated so quickly, and he wouldn’t have escaped, probably leading to an entanglement with Shi Wen.
The third time was approaching, would it really be as the letter said? 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Since it hadn’t happened yet, Ying Bairong couldn’t be sure it was true.
Therefore, the incident must unfold.
He slapped his hand against the side, and a voice came from next door, "Hey there, don’t slap too hard, or you’ll bring down the restroom and become a laughingstock at the academy. If you’re constipated, go see a doctor."
Ying Bairong lowered his voice and said, "Sorry."
He put the letter away. The letter stated that the person behind Shi Wen was a master, certainly not someone a small scholar could deal with. He needed to ask the County Magistrate for help.
There were still a few days until he returned home. During this period, he would surely find a chance to visit the County Government.
He was impatient and decided to go today, after school.
After Lin Daming returned to the butcher shop, his mood was particularly good, and Ah Chen noticed. She guessed that today when Lin Daming went back, he possibly encountered the person behind Shi Wen and heard something.
"Dad, what are you so happy about? Did you find silver?" Ah Chen asked with a smile.
Lin Daming hummed, "Yes, found some silver." He took out a small ingot of silver from his pocket and handed it to Ah Chen, "Here, buy yourself some treats."
Ah Chen did pause for a moment but then realized that Lin Daming was using the silver as an excuse to brush her off.
She didn’t refuse, taking it in her hand, "Alright, next time I can invite Second Young Master Shen to listen to stories. This ingot can allow us to hear quite a few tales."
Lin Daming’s previously happy face fell, regretting using silver as an excuse.
"Dad, you should come with me next time, you haven’t been to the teahouse with me to listen to stories, right? It’s quite interesting, let’s go listen together, you shouldn’t be busy all the time, sometimes you should have fun." Ah Chen said with a smile in her eyes.
In her memory, Lin Daming wasn’t one for fun, selling pork then going home, or out to buy pigs, living a very simple life.
The previously grumpy Lin Daming lit up and quickly agreed, "Alright, since you like listening to stories, Dad will take you to listen every day."
Shen Xuan, that kid, thinks he can whisk his daughter away, it won’t be that easy.
As for that Shi family girl and her cousin thinking they can scheme against his daughter, they’re dreaming.
The letter was already in Ying Bairong’s hands, and he would certainly seek Lord Shen for justice, while he’d take his daughter to watch the drama unfold.
They must see this show, to let her witness the vicious faces of those people and learn the treacherousness of human nature.
