Shrouded Seascape-Chapter 1083: Tests
Chapter 1083: Tests
Unsurprisingly, Nancy decided to join the IMF. She wanted to avenge her late boyfriend. To achieve that goal, she was willing to give her everything.
Joining the IMF as a newcomer required not only signing many different agreements but also undergoing targeted training and swearing a sincere oath.
Upon obtaining initial clearance, information that ordinary people would find difficult to access was revealed to her. Nancy could have never imagined that she had actually been living in such a bizarre world.
When she first encountered those strange and peculiar Anomalies, she couldn't tell whether she was dreaming or in reality.
However, people ought to keep moving forward. To rise to the clearance level needed to know more about those black meteors, Nancy knew that she had to adapt to all of this as soon as possible.
Indeed, people with goals were capable of doing things faster than others. Nancy climbed the IMF's career ladder step by step.
From an ordinary containment site assistant to a researcher capable of directly interacting with Anomalies, she eventually became a director, making deductions and calculations for Anomaly interaction experiments.
The rise in authority demanded a steep price—her time. By the time she became a director, Nancy was no longer young. The young woman dreaming of romance existed solely in the photo on her desk.
Nancy picked up the photo frame, and her eyes were fixed on herself being piggy-backed by Robert. She couldn't help but reminisce about her youthful days, which had long since passed.
If he were still alive, we would probably have a child by now... Nancy let out a faint sigh as she moved the mouse and opened the IMF's internal archives. She quickly found the file depicting the reason behind Robert's death.
She had already lost count of how many times she had clicked on the file, but it still displayed insufficient clearance. Each click brought a new wave of disappointment coursing through her heart.
Her next promotion goal was to become a site director. A site director was in charge of an entire containment site. Even if she managed to become a site director, Nancy wasn't sure whether she would obtain a different result upon clicking on that file.
Sometimes, she couldn't help but think that they had been deceiving her—that they had been stringing her along. Perhaps the identity of those black meteors was unknown to them as well.

Should I try to find another way? While she was pondering over that question, something came from behind, startling Nancy. She turned to look and saw a dog with only half a body lying on the ground; its tongue lolled out as it looked at her.
It appeared to be a German Shepherd, but in stark contrast to other dogs, the dog's lower half was completely missing.
Nancy breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing the dog. Not all Anomalies were extremely dangerous; some were quite useless, like the half-dog in front of her.
It was technically being contained by the IMF, but they weren't exactly "containing" it. Aside from preventing it from leaving and scaring people outside, it was free to roam the site.
The half-dog was a gentle dog, and it was willing to approach anyone. Whenever the employees were feeling the pressure, they would walk up to it and pet it for some stress relief.
"Who's a good dog? Who's a good dooog? It's Missy, isn't it? Hey, why did you run over to me?" Nancy gently scratched the dog's chin, enjoying the feeling of its fur.
Nancy took out some puffed snacks from the drawer beside her, intending to feed the dog, but the lights on the ceiling abruptly turned red and started flashing frantically.
The speakers blasted an announcement, saying that an Anomaly had broken containment.
Before the speaker could reveal much information, the cold female voice vanished and was replaced by some kind of low, eerie chanting.
The astute Nancy decisively turned off the speakers. Then, she carried the half-dog in her arms and rushed out with big strides.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw a monk sitting cross-legged in the air. The monk was covered in blue scriptures, and he was floating toward Nancy at breakneck speed.
Nancy decisively threw the half-dog over to attract his attention, and then she turned around and sprinted into the distance.
The escaped Anomaly clearly had far more interest in Nancy than the half-dog. Abandoning the half-dog, the monk chased after her.
Of course, Nancy wasn't running around haphazardly. She decisively rushed toward a containment chamber and opened its doors through iris recognition.
A big-headed doll with atrophied limbs was inside the chamber. It was sitting in a crib, and it was wearing a diaper. It seemed to be busy playing some computer games.
The monk followed closely behind Nancy, and his chanting filled the room. To make matters worse, the blue scriptures all over him slowly seeped out of his skin.
At the critical juncture, Nancy turned to the big-headed doll and shouted, "I agree to your previous request, so help me suppress it!"
"Red ball gag," the big-headed doll said.
A gag with a red ball was wrapped around the monk's mouth.
The chanting instantly stopped.
Crack!
Unfortunately, the plastic gag instantly shattered to pieces between the monk's teeth.
"Lip retractor."
Swoosh!
A steel helmet engulfed the monk's head, forcing his lips open.
"Handcuffs and legcuffs."
"Lava."
"Concentrated sulfuric acid."
"An iron cage."
The big-headed doll manifested words into reality, and everything it had manifested was immediately used on the monk.
It was like God; whatever it said came true. It seemed to have the monk completely restrained, but the monk refused to die, regardless of its injuries.
It was unwittingly transfixed on Nancy, and it dragged its restraints while crawling its way toward her. It opened its big mouth, revealing black, rotten teeth. It looked like it wanted to devour Nancy alive.
Nancy took out her phone and started calling someone, even though the monk's fingers had already slipped between her eyelids.
"Hello, tell Psychic Team 3 to start meditating to destabilize 3741's physical form."
Before the monk could pull Nancy's eyeballs out of her eye sockets, the monk's figure flashed intermittently as if he were a light bulb with an unstable power supply.
The big-headed doll beside her didn't stand idle. It took advantage of the opportunity and suppressed the monk.
When the combat team on duty arrived, the crisis was finally resolved. Nancy returned to her office and began reviewing the containment breach.
This is premeditated. This isn't the first time. Someone is targeting me, Nancy thought while looking at the edited video. There was something wrong going on here. How come crises always find their way to her?
After carefully pondering over the situation, Nancy decided to send an email to HQ, warning them that the site was probably under the influence of an unperceivable Anomaly. She had to consider this possibility, as what had happened was just too strange.
As soon as the email was sent, there was a knock on the door to Nancy's office. A red-haired woman holding the same half-dog earlier walked into the office, and she was staring at Nancy with clear satisfaction. There was a phone in her hand, and it displayed the email that Nancy had just sent out.
"Not bad. You've passed so many tests and have defeated the other K9s. You are ready to hear about our plan."
