Shrouded Seascape-Chapter 1098. Anomaly
Chapter 1098. Anomaly
A wide variety of thoughts exploded in Anna's mind. Another personality was tugging at her brain at the moment, but Anna could still handle this level of contamination.
In no time, Anna's expression stabilized, but instead of going to the surface, she stayed beneath the waters, quietly waiting for something.
The cruise ship above her head moved away, and the bottom of the warship earlier cast its huge shadow above the two of them.
Anna's trembling figure phased through the steel hull, but Anna found no one inside. As expected, everyone was on the upper deck.
Anna wasted no time and found a lifeboat somewhere within the ship. Then, Anna raised her hand, wreathed in her corrosive flames burning with both her fury and hatred, and slashed at the ship's hull.
Any hard material was nothing in the face of Anna's corrosive flames, and a large gash appeared in the hull. Before the rushing seawater could overwhelm the ship, Anna left with Gao Zhiming using the lifeboat that they had secured.

The warship was now taking on water, and its speed decreased dramatically.
Soon, it was a safe distance away from the luxury cruise ship.
Roy promptly rescued the two, but even as they landed on the cruise ship's deck, Anna's face was still distorted.
This time, her facial features were covered with tears. Hatred gleamed in her eyes, and veins bulged all over her head. She clenched her hands tightly as well; she seemed to be struggling against something.
In the end, she gasped and breathed in ragged pants. She rested for a while before looking up at the others around her.
"It was really stubborn, but I've finally dealt with it."
Realizing that Anna had returned to normal, the others sighed in relief and helped her up.
Anna looked at the tilting warship in the distance. She felt extremely humiliated—a paltry Anomaly actually managed to cause her so much trouble. If they were in the Subterranean Sea, that thing would die with just a mere thought on her end.
Just then, Anna recalled something. She rummaged through the pile of corpses and soon found a shattered mask.
Anna placed the mask on a corpse's face, and the corpse soon stood up on its own.
Anna sighed in relief. The clown was still alive, which meant that they hadn't really suffered any damage.
Despite having just survived a life-or-death ordeal, the others on the ship started cleaning up things.
Anna and the others watched the tilting warship in the distance, and none of them spoke a word. Eventually, the ship stopped tilting; it seemed that it was spared the grim fate of sinking to the bottom of the deep sea.
However, it had become dramatically slower than before. It was so slow that it couldn't possibly catch up to the luxury cruise ship.
Just then, the clown's poker cards with words written on them shattered the ice. "High Priestess, what were those things? They actually managed to control the two of us."
"It's called a personality plague; it's a special type of mental contamination. It infects the personality of other people, and it will keep on replicating itself within the bodies of its hosts until it has assimilated them all.
"That damned thing is extremely hard to defend against. It has a huge range of influence, and it hits as abruptly as a plague. With enough people, it can take over and contaminate an entire island in just an hour.
"I just realized that it was born as a result of a human being fusing with an Anomaly."
Just then, Gao Zhiming seemed to have noticed something. He turned to the distant warship and asked, "Big Sis, what's going to happen if that terrifying thing makes it to shore?"
"Haha, if that happens, it's going to be a really big issue. The IMF will surely be busy by then," Anna replied, revealing a look of schadenfreude.
Gao Zhiming was the type to always reply to his big sister's words, but this time, he lowered his head and pondered over something. After a long while, he looked and asked, "Big Sis, is it possible for us to deal with it?"
"Hmm?" Anna looked at Gao Zhiming in surprise. This was the first time the young boy's opinion differed from hers. "Why?"
Gao Zhiming frowned, looking like he was facing a very important question. "I think it's going to kill a lot of people. Many people will lose their parents, and that's bad... that's really bad.
"If someone wants to hurt us, then we can go kill them. But ordinary people... we shouldn't let them die."
Gao Zhiming's words drew the gazes of the others around him.
Li Lu was slightly astonished. The fact that Gao Zhiming had been with Anna for so long yet hadn't been led astray was certainly a rare sight.
Anna lifted Gao Zhiming with both hands and placed him on the railings. She stared straight into his eyes before asking, "Why do you care so much about mere strangers? They don't even know you, so even if you save them, they aren't going to say thank you."
"But... they're all living people, aren't they?"
Anna fell into contemplation upon hearing that. Then, she frowned slightly and asked, "If you were given a choice to save either mere strangers or me, who would you choose?"
Gao Zhiming fell into a daze, looking conflicted in the face of Anna's question.
Anna shook her head in disappointment and raised her voice, saying, "Do you know that the agents of the IMF in Subterranean London have another important task in addition to tracking down and eradicating dangerous organization?
"That task is to find anything that can threaten humanity—that ship contaminated by a personality plague is an example of that. If someone tells them the whereabouts of that ship, they'll certainly profit handsomely."
With that, Anna turned around and walked toward her cabin without looking back.
Gao Zhiming became anxious at the sight. He was about to chase after Anna, but Jackal raised his hand, stopping him. "Stay. The High Priestess has already agreed to your request. What she just said wasn't for you to hear but for the others ."
The surviving subordinates of the brown-bearded man stared at the distant warship with fervor rather than fear.
"They'll inform the IMF, and the IMF will deal with that threat. Don't worry, no one will get hurt once the Anomaly Containment Team gets to it."
Meanwhile, Gao Zhiming's astonishment was far less than Roy and Li Lu's stupefaction. The couple walked away from the group and whispered to each other.
"Did you hear that? Anna has actually decided to make a move that will save many human lives. Am I dreaming here? When did she start acting like a human being? I mean, I'm sure you still remember how she once treated humans as mere ritual materials."
"I think Gao Zhiming is the reason behind it. She's been saying that he's just a very important tool to her, nothing more, nothing less, but I can feel that she really cares about him."
"What exactly is their relationship?"
"I have no idea..."
The annoyed Anna walked into her cabin and began sorting out her gains and losses. First of all, she realized that the IMF wasn't closely monitoring the Indian Ocean.
Otherwise, the IMF's forces would have long descended upon this place. After all, the battle not too long ago had to have been visible to their satellites.
Anna initially thought that the square-faced man and his people were the IMF's outsourced mercenaries, but she was proven wrong when they unleashed a personality plague as their trump card.
The IMF had too many Anomalies on hand, so there was no way they would use such a terrifying Anomaly as their trump card.
