Shrouded Seascape-Chapter 1135. Disappointment
Chapter 1135. Disappointment
Having abandoned all pretenses, Anna no longer had any reason to hide. She decided to take advantage of the chaos to obtain as much strength as possible before launching her attacks. Since they had already torn off all pretenses, there was absolutely no need for Anna to hide anything anymore.
As the ships made their way to the Indian Ocean, senior Fhtagnists wearing pendant-sized silver statuettes of Fhtagn began sharpening some golden "tools."
The deck was cleared of people long ago, and the ritual would soon begin. Anna's decision was both pragmatic and reasonable, but there was a small problem. She had ignored the feelings of the only person whom she cared about on the surface world.
Gao Zhiming walked out of the bridge, gripping the railing as he made his way to the deck.
Rows upon rows of people with bound hands were on his right, and their eyes reflected nothing but fear. They swayed back and forth amidst the waves. They could barely muster any strength to stand due to the despair and the lack of food as well as water.
However, this wasn't really out of place. The majority of these people were going to die anyway, so giving them food and water was a complete waste of supplies. They just had to stay alive, and that was it.
Gao Zhiming was familiar with them. Just days ago, they had been students, office workers, and from all walks of life, but now, they had all become nothing but slaves.
"Water, I want some water... I'm so thirsty..." a young woman muttered, pleading to Gao Zhiming with lips so dry they had turned white. She collapsed to the ground before Gao Zhiming could respond.
Gao Zhiming was once a vagrant, and he knew the agony of thirst. He couldn't refuse her request, so he rushed to his room, grabbed a cold drink from the refrigerator, and stuffed it into her arms.
When there was one, there would be two. Everyone lunged at the young woman, clamoring for the cold drink in her hands. Some of them reached out toward Gao Zhiming as well. In the end, he couldn't take it anymore and fled in panic.
He knew that he couldn't help everyone, but tears still dripped down his cheek. He cried and cried until he broke down into uncontrollable sobbing.
Gao Zhiming huddled in a corner as if he had been abandoned. He buried his head in his folded arms, venting the emotions in his heart by sobbing loudly.
Just then, a soft hand reached over his chin and lifted his head.
What appeared before Anna was a face covered in snot and tears. However, she felt not even a tinge of disgust as she took out a tissue and wiped him clean.
"Big Sis, they're not like those bad people from people. They're not bad! They're good people! Can we just let them go? Please?" Gao Zhiming asked, almost begging for Anna to let those people go.
Anna said nothing. She pulled Gao Zhiming to his feet and walked toward their room.
"Big Sis, they're not a threat to us! Can we just let them go? Can we go and catch pirates instead?" Gao Zhiming said. He grabbed the hand pulling him and yanked with all his might, but he was too weak compared to Anna.
"Say something. Big Sis!"
Anna squeezed Gao Zhiming's hand until it was black and blue, but she still hadn't said a word.
Gao Zhiming went from struggling to biting. He frantically tore at Anna's arm, trying to make her let go.
Anna threw Gao Zhiming onto the bed, eliciting a loud noise. Gao Zhiming sat up quickly and saw Anna closing the door. Clearly, she was going to lock him up inside this room.
"Y-y-you liar!" Gao Zhiming roared. He shouted so loudly that his voice cracked, and his voice was filled with both disappointment and anger as he added, "You're the bad person! You're a monster! You're a murderer!!"
"Pfft! You really are dumb. You just realized that?" Anna asked with a sneer. Her body then split open as she reverted to her true form. "I'm a member of the Diois Tribe, and humans have always been nothing but our food.
"I really have no idea what kind of fantasy you've been harboring about us.
"You made me human and made me live in human society, but did you really believe that I'd eventually take pity on my food, Charles? Dream on!!" Anna's monstrous maw split open as she roared at Gao Zhiming.
Gao Zhiming cried even louder. At this very moment, his idealized image of Anna collapsed. He had killed quite a few people before, and he had been deluding himself into thinking that those people were bad people.
However, the faces of the people outside made Gao Zhiming realize that he couldn't do it anymore—he couldn't lie to himself anymore. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Bang!
The door was slammed shut and was also locked from the outside.
Anna's face was as cold as ice as she made her way to the bridge. Her eyes were fixed on the coordinates being displayed on the instrument panel.
Just then, a Fhtagnist pushed the door open just a bit rougher than usual, but Anna instantly tore him in half and stuffed him into her stomach.
Anna wasn't hungry. She was simply venting.
The blood splattering in the air made everyone fall silent. They dared not speak nor make any large movements. They were terrified of following in the unlucky Fhtagnist's footsteps.
Amidst the extremely oppressive atmosphere, several ships finally reached their destination. Anchors weighing over ten tons were lowered, crashing into the seabed.
Everyone stopped and turned to Anna, awaiting her next order.
Anna reached for the microphone connected to every ship. Through the bridge's glass, she swept her gaze across the people on the deck of every ship.
Looking at their terrified faces, Anna realized that she was actually hesitating. She discovered that she couldn't sacrifice these people as easily as she had sacrificed those two million people in the Eastern Seas.
Impossible! That fragile human body of mine couldn't have changed me! Just then, Gao Zhiming's disappointed gaze flashed through her mind. Do I really care about what he thinks? What a joke! If I want, I can make him think whatever I want him to think!
"Everyone, do it!" Anna's voice was transmitted to all ships. The golden "tools" in the hands of the qualified Fhtagnists were raised high at once before plunging into the chests of the sacrifice.
Human flesh and organs were pulled apart before being arranged to form the array dedicated to Fhtagn. The sacrifices were the elderly, the children, and the women, while those who were going to be converted to Fhtagnists were all young adults.
Their eyes were filled with intense hatred and agony as they walked into the array, but upon walking out of the array and receiving their black robe, their eyes contained not even a trace of the previous hatred and pain.
Instead, they gleamed with a fanaticism bordering infinitely closer to obsession.
Desperate screams and cries pervaded the skies above the Indian Ocean. There was so much blood dripping from the deck that the sea around the gathered ships had turned red.
Anna smiled in satisfaction at the steady stream of converted Fhtagnist. This was merely the beginning. Her army of fanatics was bound to multiply at breakneck speed. The IMF's defeat was inevitable!
The ritual was bloody yet boring.
Anna turned and left the bridge, walking toward the room she shared with Gao Zhiming.
Forget it. That brat's emotions have been a bit too volatile recently. I should explain things to him. Anna thought as she walked down the corridor. She reached out to the doorknob to open the door, but she froze.
She could smell something strange inside the room. Anna tore down the locked door, and a shocking scene was revealed before her.
Gao Zhiming was lying on his side on the bed, and a pistol hung loosely in his hand.
There was a huge, gaping hole on his head. The powerful gun had obliterated everything above his neck, and his bones, brain matter, and eyeballs splattered all over the wall, creating an exquisite but grotesque painting.
