Chapter 1136. Laplace's Demon

Anna stared at Gao Zhiming's corpse for a few seconds before launching into a tirade of curses.

"You cowardly scum! Are you even a man?! Why did you kill yourself over such a trivial matter?! Do you know how hard I've been working just to go back? My plans! My hardwork! My everything! You've ruined everything, you useless scum!

"I should have broken all your limbs and turned you into a tool! A mere tool for me to use!"

Despite being left breathless after the fierce round of cursing, Anna was still not satisfied. She swung her right hand and slammed Gao Zhiming's corpse into the wall.

She threw the corpse so hard that it bounced off the wall and splattered on the ground. Anna gnashed her teeth and paced back and forth in the room. Her breathing grew more and more rapid, while the fury in her heart burned fiercer and fiercer.

Right as her fury was about to reach its peak, Anna froze and realized one thing—Gao Zhiming was dead. He was really dead. She walked up to Gao Zhiming's corpse and picked up the headless body.

Gao Zhiming's crimson tongue swayed left and right.

"Gao Zhiming... is dead?" Anna trembled. For the first time ever, she panicked. "No, he can't be dead! He's supposed to be the future Charles! How could he possibly die?!"

Dozens of tentacles whipped rapidly around the room, tearing down the "painting." Anna had enough knowledge of human anatomy that she easily reassembled the pieces of flesh into a makeshift head that she piled onto Gao Zhiming's headless corpse.

"You can't be dead! I mean, how could you even die? You're supposed to become a god in the future!" Anna's agitated words seemed to be directed at the deceased Gao Zhiming, but they were actually meant to comfort herself.

Her trembling tentacles pressed hard on the flesh, seemingly trying to shut the gaps between the bloody flesh. As Anna pressed even harder, the gaps seemed to have disappeared.

Gao Zhiming's head looked as if it were still alive. It was like he was about to come back to life. The next moment, however, Gao Zhiming's head exploded like a watermelon, and bits and pieces of him scattered everywhere.

As Anna looked down at the headless corpse before her, she soon began to accept the harsh reality. She held Gao Zhiming's corpse in her arms as yellowish-brown tears flowed from her eyes.

Anna tried hard not to cry out loud, but it was futile. At this moment, she finally understood how important he was to her.

The reason Anna was furious when Charles sent him to the surface world wasn't because she had lost the opportunity to become a god. Instead, it was out of worry. She was worried about Charles.

Anna's grip on Gao Zhiming in her arms tightened, and it was like she wanted to fuse him with herself.

Anna's emotions spiraled out of control. First, she became hysterical, and then she apologized to Gao Zhiming, promising that she would listen to whatever he said as long as he came back to life.

Afterward, she began reminiscing about the moments they shared together. Then, she hurled a hail of curses at him before kissing him passionately. After an unknown amount of time, Anna finally went silent.

She knelt there motionless as if she were dead.

Just then, Anna heard someone vigorously sucking on something. Her pupils turned slowly until she saw Tobba leaning against the door with a baby bottle in hand.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk, what a horrible death. This one definitely ranks in the top five," Tobba remarked. He was talking while drinking milk, so his round belly was instantly soaked with milk.

Swoosh!

Anna appeared in front of Tobba in the blink of an eye. She then grabbed him with both hands and lifted him up. Her murderous glare was on him as she asked, "You know a way to save him, right? You definitely have a way to save him, right?"

"No way. Dead is dead," Tobba replied, looking and sounding extremely calm.

"No way that's true! You're the one who saved me last time, so you can definitely save him, too!" Anna exclaimed. She had long figured out the bizarre series of events at the time, and she had simply remained silent about it.

"Hmm, you're putting me on the spot here. I'm not really good at this kind of thing. For something like this, you should go look for Lily," Tobba replied, looking innocent as if Anna had yet to catch on.

"Y-you remember everything that happened? Otherwise, how do you know about Lily? Wait, you remember everything?! Since you've recovered your memories, why did you not warn me that Gao Zhiming would end his life?!

"You've always believed that I could foresee the future, and even I thought the same of myself, despite losing my memories, but the truth is that I really cannot foresee the future. How should I describe this special ability of mine?

"Have you heard about Laplace's demon?"

"What?" Anna asked, sounding stunned. She felt that the Tobba in front of her was different from the Tobba she was familiar with. Pressed against the wall, Tobba couldn't really struggle, but he still managed to throw his baby bottle.

The baby bottle collided with Gao Zhiming's eyeball on the ground, and the eyeball bounced up before Anna.

Anna's pupils constricted and trembled upon seeing the intense emotions frozen within those eyeballs just moments before Gao Zhiming pulled the trigger.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Tobba easily escaped Anna's arms, and he landed steadily on the ground.

"My body has always been that of an ordinary human being. Unlike you all, my special ability only activates upon my death. Whenever I die, I will return to the moment of my birth, retaining all my memories to start a new life.

"I'm like Lily after she made contact with that iceberg. The only difference is that each cycle lasts only forty minutes for her, while mine is an entire lifetime.

"Laplace's demon... it is a thought experiment made by a human being. If there were a being that could know the cause and effect of all events, then they could know everything that will happen in the future through deduction."

Tobba looked up at Anna. "By repeating the same life over and over again, I became thoroughly familiar with everything about you all, including all the cause and effect in the world. If I wanted to do so, I could easily change the outcome of all things by altering seemingly insignificant details.

"In other words, I am Laplace's demon."

Tobba's reveal contained too much information for Anna to process at once. "What does any of that have to do with anything?! What does that have to do with you not telling me that Gao Zhiming would commit suicide?!"

"It does matter, as they're already fighting. Thanks to them, this world has become illogical and unstable. This world is doomed. Since you've already chosen this path, just keep walking down on it. There's no medicine for regret in this world, anyway. Goodbye."

Tobba lashed out with his foot, and a small fragment of Gao Zhiming's bone flew toward the wall. The bone fragment bounced off the wall and flew toward Tobba, piercing his neck with precision.

Anna watched as Tobba slowly collapsed to the ground and bled to death.

Meanwhile, in an unknown place with neither time nor space, Charles calmly watched as one of his tentacles changed colors, becoming the exact same pitch-black color as Fhtagn's figure.

Gao Zhiming in the timeline being depicted by the tentacle was dead, and he had completely disappeared. Everything on that tentacle had become a part of Fhtagn.

This wasn't an isolated case. In addition to the tentacle that had turned completely pitch-black, some black spots had also appeared on the other tentacles.
