Chapter 1139. Overlap
Gao Zhiming's face turned even redder. Then, in a voice that sounded more like a mosquito's droning, he said, "B-big Sis, what exactly are you talking about..."
Smack!
Anna gave Gao Zhiming's cheek a light smack, leaving the latter in a daze.
"Let me say this again—focus. This isn't a game. Don't drop the ball on me," Anna remarked.
Gao Zhiming stewed in embarrassment for a while. Fortunately, the car finally came to a halt. They had arrived at their destination.
Gao Zhiming was about to alight from the car when Anna grabbed him and stuffed a golden ball covered with ornate, special patterns into his hand. "Open this as soon as you notice something amiss. Do you understand?"
"Yes, I understand," Gao Zhiming replied and held the ball firmly.
Finally, the two alighted from the car and saw that the Fhtagnists were already at their positions along with a large group of armed soldiers. These Fhtagnists had become far more useful than before when they had nothing but fearlessness and an obsession with Fhtagn.
These Fhtagnists would do anything for Fhtagn's sake. Anna looked up at the dark skies. Today's weather was gloomy, and it was probably going to rain. As Anna's gaze descended, she saw a city shrouded in dark clouds in the distance.
The IMF's command center—the higher-ups of the IMF—was located in the distant city. Anna knew that they weren't blind, and they definitely knew that she was here. Unfortunately for them, they had nowhere to run. Their best site capable of defending against just about anything was right over there.
"Don't be nervous. I was told that it takes them a long time to activate powerful Anomalies, and it is very expensive for them as well. Unfortunately, they've run out of time to make any changes. They're destined to lose."
Just then, the doors of several armored vehicles nearby were opened, and figures with familiar faces alighted from those vehicles. novelbuddy.cσ๓
The cruel, long-standing war had greatly changed everyone, but if someone were to ask Anna as to who changed the most, she would undoubtedly say that it was Olivia.
Olivia's mastery over her special abilities reached unprecedented heights thanks to Anna's guidance. She had access to as many experimental subjects as she could, so Olivia eventually learned to alter memories, cognition, and personalities as she wished, just like Anna.
Unfortunately, there was no free lunch in this world. Every anomalous ability came with its own drawback. Having become intimately familiar with human nature, she became completely disillusioned with humanity.
Olivia had become an extremely cold and radical woman. She was becoming more and more like Anna as time went on. She looked down on everyone. In her eyes, her fellow humans were just beasts capable of communication.
Jackal had changed greatly as well. He wasn't just Charles' first believer anymore. He had become Anna's right-hand man, assisting Anna with all affairs related to their organization.
His efforts allowed him to occupy a lofty position second only to Anna in the coalition force that the latter had founded against the IMF. His lofty position was exhausting to maintain, but Jackal remained absolutely loyal, completing Anna's orders with nary a mutter of complaint.
As for Roy and Li Lu, the couple was considered core members of Anna's organization. After all, they were Anna's longtime associates. Anna could see the selfish desires in their hearts, but she couldn't care less about it.
As long as they obeyed her orders, she couldn't care less whether they were being sincere or not. It wasn't like the couple could still get off the ship. The ship had already sailed when they decided to stay with her at the time.
Last but not least was Wang Sheng, the second-generation nouveau riche whom Anna had stumbled upon on the surface world.
When Anna restored Wang Sheng and Wang Jianshe's memories, they resolutely joined Anna's cause. The father and son duo were incredibly helpful during the early stages of Anna's plan.
Jackal pressed his earpiece and exclaimed, "Deploy the radars! Mobilize Anomaly 3687 and Anomaly 781! Now!"
The people behind him got out of their vehicles and sprang into action.
After delegating some of the affairs to his deputy, Jackal walked up to Anna and said, "High Priestess, I've contacted the Yellow-Robe Alliance, the Lightkeepers, and the Green Flames Brotherhood. They've arrived at the eastern, western, and northern sides of the city."
Anna nodded with satisfaction. Against the IMF's strongest and final site, she wasn't going to rely solely on herself.
If one had the complete advantage in strength, then the safest way to achieve victory was to advance steadily and crush the enemies with one's overwhelming strength instead of cooking up risky and unnecessary plans.
"Let's go. We've been fighting them for so many years now. It's time to settle this once and for all," Anna said.
Everyone immediately got moving.
Rumbling noises pervaded the air as fighter jets flew overhead, making a beeline for the distant city. Artillery shells descended like rain, bombarding the city.
Naturally, the IMF made a move, sending surface-to-air missiles to obliterate the fighter jets streaking across the skies. However, the fighter jets were merely a part of the prelude.
When one of the aircraft engulfed in flames struck the ground, a four-meter-tall humanoid figure crawled out of the flames. The slender and emaciated figure with blood-red nails and no facial features was a terrifying sight to behold.
The thin humanoid figure let out a shrill cry and slaughtered everyone around it.
The remaining fighter jets crashed one after another, and all sorts of bizarre "things" crawled out from within the debris. These things were the most bizarre and dangerous Uncontrollable Anomalies.
These Anomalies couldn't be absorbed, so Anna repurposed them as weapons of mass destruction. The methods and means of warfare on the surface world had changed long ago, and victory depended on who could best use Anomalies with modern weaponry.
Once Anna made her move, the rest followed suit. Soon, the city was engulfed in the scorching flames of war.
Anna took in the grand scene before her and turned to Tobba in Li Lu's arms.
"Magnificent, isn't it?" she asked.
Tobba was sucking on a lollipop, and his eyes were utterly cold as he stared at another overlapping scene before him—a scene in a superposition state.
Rain poured down hard, and there was no smell of gunpowder in the air. Instead, the air itself felt heavy and suffocating. The distant city was dyed pitch-black due to the sheer number of black-robed Fhtagnists standing within its confines.
Against hundreds of millions of Fhtagnists, the IMF's last stand was pitifully weak, and they were defeated in the proverbial blink of an eye.
Anna reverted to her true form and devoured the members of the IMF's command center, ending the IMF's hegemony. Then, the Fhtagnists gathered the survivors and tied them up in the city square.
There were so many Fhtagnists that by the time Anna arrived at the city square, the colossal array that spanned the entire city was already complete.
Like a starfish, Anna sprawled out on the ground, and her eyes with yellow, cross-shaped pupils were cast at the skies above her.
There was no one beside her. She was alone, utterly alone.
The rain relentlessly pelted her eyes, but she remained frozen with her thoughts unknown. Finally, she raised her tentacles, and they swayed like seaweed in the air. Soon, her chanting reverberated from the speakers throughout the city.
Anna had won, and it was a decisive victory by an overwhelming margin at that. Now, it was time to proceed with her next plan. Anna's voice pervaded not just this one city. Through the Internet, her voice reached every corner of the world.
Her chanting contained the crazed whisperings of the gods, making it impossible to understand, but Tobba could understand it.
