Chapter 1138. War

The IMF was surely feeling overwhelmed at the moment and could most likely not spare any resources to look for Anna. However, Anna had never been the one to rely on mere chances.

"Anna, what's our next step?" Li Lu asked, sounding a bit anxious. She was truly afraid of what Anna could do, and she was scared that she might come up with some new idea.

"Our next step? Since we've decided to avoid increasing our numbers for now, we'll go and look for the IMF's command center. We have to take their command center down, or this war will never end.

"The IMF is a massive organization, so it definitely has a command center somewhere. We just have to find its command center and obliterate it. After that, we only have to wait. The others will help me bring down the IMF."

As a former member of the IMF, however, Li Lu was opposed to Anna's plan. She quickened her pace and blocked Anna's way to the deck. She looked a bit anxious as she said, "Anna, you've got to think of another way. That won't work.

"The higher-ups are unknown to us, and we don't even know how many people are a part of the command center. How can we find them when we don't know anything about them?"

"Don't get ahead of yourself. A human organization can never be a monolithic entity with no room for individual input. Since they can plant spies among us, then we can certainly plant spies among them," Anna replied.

She glanced at the sacrifices squatting near the railings, and her gaze landed on a young woman. She was the one who asked Gao Zhiming for some water earlier.

Anna effortlessly accessed her memories and found that everything was normal.

It was so normal that it was bizarre.

Anna dug a bit deeper and found something in the depths of her sea of consciousness. Indeed, the young woman was one of the IMF's shadows.

Instead of exposing her, Anna walked away with Gao Zhiming. While the two of them were walking away hand in hand, Anna began altering the young woman's personality and memories as if she were fiddling with a machine.

Anna was undoubtedly an expert at anything related to memories, as before they had gone far, the young woman was already Anna's double agent. Shockingly, the young woman herself had no idea that she had just become Anna's double agent.

Some days later, the ships returned to port, and Anna realized that a double agent with a pitifully low clearance level wasn't going to be very useful. Knowing that there was strength in numbers, however, she decided to convert every shadow the IMF had sent her way into her double agent.

While waiting for their report, Anna made the same move as the other anomalous organizations. She attacked the IMF's sites, seizing Anomalies to bolster the strength of her forces.

Since she couldn't overwhelm the IMF through numbers, she could only use a crude method to deal with them, for now.

Fortunately, the world was in so much chaos that neither the IMF nor the Foundation behind them seemed to be willing to stake everything they had to fight Anna in a deathmatch.

And unfortunately, it was already too late for them to go all-out against Anna.

After all, she had already opened Pandora's box. Even her death wouldn't help assuage the chaos. In addition, Anna was still alive despite quite a few assassination attempts. The IMF and the Foundation were no longer certain if they could truly kill her by simply attempting to assassinate her again.

Just like that, a long war began. There was a battlefield everywhere, and many people died every day.

Some organizations even made contact with Anna upon learning that she was the legendary 315, and many of them expressed their willingness to follow her orders for the sake of defeating the IMF.

It seemed that Anna had become a spiritual leader among the anomalous organizations. Although they weren't really that strong and the majority of them simply wanted to ride on her coattails, Anna still accepted them.

Something was better than nothing, and besides, she no longer had to be afraid of the possibility that the IMF's shadows were among them.

Under Anna's leadership, they captured and plundered several IMF sites, becoming severalfold stronger than before. Unfortunately, the bigger they grew, the fiercer the IMF's offensive became against them.

One day, the IMF mobilized its task forces and attacked Anna's group along with a government armed force.

Both sides suffered heavy casualties, and even though Anna and her people wielded powerful, special abilities, they couldn't possibly withstand a carpet bombing.

In the end, Anna neutralized the bombers, obtaining a hard-earned victory for herself.

The IMF had lost, but Anna's momentum was curbed as a result of the heavy losses. However, the IMF's decision to involve a government's armed forces made Anna realize one thing.

If the IMF could do that, couldn't we do the same? Was it really hard to take control of a government armed force?

Many more things happened afterward, and Anna's group grew even larger.

At this point, it became clear that the IMF was weakening. It couldn't be helped. After all, the entire world was in chaos, and they were running out of manpower. They could mobilize to secure a site, but they would end up losing another site somewhere else.

The war between the two sides was undoubtedly fierce.

Each and every nation decided to stand with the IMF at first, but some decided to change their mind upon learning that they could obtain special abilities upon absorbing an Anomaly.

Those with bigger ambitions even began seeking more ways to become even stronger, and some even began cooperating with anomalous organizations, turning against the IMF in the pursuit of immortality.

Those seeking to profit handsomely decided to abandon the sidelines and jump into the fray, adding to the chaos.

Just like that, a year and a half passed. At this point, the majority of the IMF sites had long been obliterated. Without the IMF's containment, quite a few Anomalies ran free, causing many incidents.

Anna thought that the chaos would continue without any changes until the IMF's fall, but she received shocking news from her double agents. They had found traces of the IMF's command center.

Unfortunately, the news couldn't be any worse. The members of the command center had gathered to talk about using an A+ Keter Anomaly to restart the world itself.

Clearly, the IMF had a contingency plan on the off chance that the world became completely out of control.

Upon hearing the news, Anna knew that they were done playing. The IMF was no longer going to entertain them and was planning on shutting down the game by flipping the table.

Anna had no plans of letting them do as they wished. She contacted everyone and made a beeline for the command center. Regardless of what exactly the A+ Keter Anomaly was, they had to seize or destroy it before the IMF could flip the table.

Gao Zhiming was jolted awake by a speed bump, and he immediately reached out for his weapon in response.

Everything that had happened over the past year and a half led to Gao Zhiming maturing rather quickly, but he had also indeed grown older. He was now thirteen years old, after all.

Realizing that they weren't in immediate danger, Gao Zhiming let go of his weapon and looked at Anna beside him. He had grown a head taller, and since Anna was rather petite, he would soon catch up to her in height.

Anna was leaning on the soft seats of the car, and her black hair was spread out like a cloud in the sky.

Gao Zhiming's gaze traced down her long lashes and rosy lips before finally settling on her exposed shoulders, which were as white as milk.

The sight made Gao Zhiming breathe a bit rougher. Clearly, he was no longer an ignorant child. Anna's refreshing curves as well as her faint, distinct fragrance made Gao Zhiming feel a bit restless.

He hadn't hugged his sister for a long time because inappropriate thoughts would always pop up in his mind whenever he hugged her.

"What are you looking at? Wanna touch?" Anna asked.

Gao Zhiming's face instantly turned bright red.

"Big Sis, can we... sleep separately from now on?" Gao Zhiming asked nervously with his head down.

Anna opened her eyes and picked up the phone next to her.

"Control yourself. The final battle is nigh, so now's not the time for that. Once we're done dealing with them, I'll let you do whatever you want."
