Sigil Online: I became the duke's third son-Chapter 16 -
Chapter 16: Chapter 16
Staring at each other, the hawk and Luan stood there, not knowing what to do.
Luan sighed. 'Better try something instead of staring at each other,' he thought, standing up; he approached the hawk cautiously.
When he stood right in front of it, he felt it; the mark on his back started heating up, and info flooded his mind.
He stood still for a couple of minutes, absorbing all the info the sigil provided, a grin on his face, "So that's how it is. It provides the info when you need it."
He looked at the hawk and bit into his thumb. Then he extended his hand above the hawk. And a drop of blood hit the hawk on his head.
When the drop of blood made contact, Luan saw the world around him twist and turn until it became a pure white space, and in front of him floated the purple hawk.
"What's this?" He muttered, looking around, but all he could see was the hawk or white everywhere.
Then lightning appeared around the hawk. "Could this be a test?" Luan said, his gaze focusing on the lightning storm.
"Bring it on," he stated, narrowing his eyes.
Without delay the hawk launched the lightning storm straight at Luan, who braced himself for impact. He wouldn't give up here; if he had to endure a storm to contract with that spirit, he would. He would not be mediocre in this life.
A deafening crack of thunder split the air. The skyless, white void around Luan shattered, replaced by a swirling storm of darkness and flashing arcs of lightning.
The first bolt struck before he could react. Agony exploded through his body, as if a thousand needles had been driven into his flesh all at once. His muscles seized, his vision flickered, and the sharp taste of blood filled his mouth.
The raw force of the lightning left his body smoking, but before he could recover, the storm descended upon him in full force.
Winds howled, tearing at his clothes, trying to hurl him away. Rain lashed against his skin like shards of glass. Every flash of lightning brought another pulse of searing pain, his nerves screaming under the relentless onslaught.
Through gritted teeth, he forced himself to remain conscious.
Endure!
He clenched his fists, digging his fingers into his palms until they bled. His legs trembled under the force of the winds, his body begging him to give in, to surrender.
But he wouldn't.
He had known weakness before. He had known what it was like to be mediocre, and he refused to live like that again.
Another bolt arced towards him, its blinding light reflected in his narrowed eyes. This time he did not flinch.
The lightning struck his chest directly. His breath hitched, his entire body stiffening under the force of it, but he gritted his teeth and forced himself through the pain. He could feel his heartbeat thundering against his ribs. Each pulse a reminder that he was still standing. Still fighting.
The hawk, floating amidst the chaos, watched him in silence. More lightning gathered around it, ready to strike again.
Luan took a shaky breath, wiping blood from his lips. Then he straightened, his gaze locking onto the hawk.
He flashed the hawk a massive grin.
The storm intensified. The winds roared, and the lightning crackled.
If this was a test, he'd damn well pass it.
Then multiple bolts shot straight toward him, but he didn't even flinch, staring straight at the hawk with a resolute look in his eyes.
Right before the lightning hit him, his surroundings changed once more. He was now back, standing in front of the hawk.
"What? Is it over now?" Luan said, nervously looking around.
Taking a closer look at the hawk, he saw a small mark on its head, and he felt connected to it like with Vira.
Luan let out a relieved sigh, and he sat down next to the hawk. "You really are something; that was crazy intense," he said, patting the hawk.
Luan let out a shaky breath, wiping cold sweat from his forehead. He flopped onto the ground next to the hawk, letting out a weak chuckle. "Damn... If every contract's like that, I might need a break before I try another one."
The hawk looked at Luan and Vira before stepping closer. With a slow, deliberate motion, it lowered its head and nudged against Luan's side, its feathers brushing against his arm.
Luan blinked, surprised at the gesture. The warmth of the hawk's body pressed aginst him, its head gently resting against his shoulder. For a moment, the exhaustion from the trial faded, replaced by an unexpected sense of comfort.

A tired grin tugged at Luan's lips, and he reached up, running a hand along the hawk's feathers. "Heh... so you have a soft side as well, huh?" he murmured his voice laced with exhaustion.
"My lord, we're back and the horses told me they're very happy right now." Shouted Ava.
Luan turned his head, and saw Ava, Kafele and Rania return with the two horses in tow.
"Good job, next get dinner started, I'm starving." he grumbled, still patting the hawk.
But Vira was having none of it and she barraged Luan with head buts against his cheek.
Luan looked surprised at the little spirit a grin slowly spreading across his face. "Oh, are you jealous little Vira?" he said teasing her.
Forgetting one important part, then he felt it the worst sensation he had ever felt, it felt so awful he almost gagged.
"Sorry sorry." he quickly said, and immediately started patting her as well trying to soothe her mood so this god awful sensation would disappear.
After what felt like forever and vigorously patting Vira, the sensation finally disappeared. Luan had learned his lesson don't mess with Vira or he would be the one to suffer the consequences.
An exaggerated sigh escaped from his mouth, "I won't do it again okay Vira? But please don't ever use that again." Luan stated, a pleading look on his face.
