Chapter 15: Chapter 15

After a brief nap, Luan returned to pondering the abilities of his spirit sigil. He was fairly certain Vira had powers, and if she was indeed a spirit, that meant he needed to figure out how to find others.

"So, you're a spirit... Now, how do I find other spirits and contract with them to use my sigil abilities?" he muttered, leaning against the tree.

When Luan spoke, Vira immediately flew off without warning. He didn't have time to react, only able to watch as she disappeared into the distance.

His body still ached from the long run earlier. "Where is she going? Wait... could she be bringing a spirit back? No way, that'd be too easy..." he mumbled, staring in the direction Vira had flown.

There's nothing he could do about it anyway; he just had to trust in Vira that she would return, or else he'd have to go look for her and delay his plans, thinking that that could happen soured his mood.

'Let's trust her, yeah,' he mused. Closing his eyes again, even after taking a short nap, he still felt awful.

A while later he felt the bubbly sensation again; he felt Vira snuggle against his cheek. Patting her head softly, a smile spread across his face.

"It's good that you're back. What did you do that was so urgent you had to fly away?" he asked her, slowly opening his eyes.

But what he saw in front of him left him speechless. A multitude of life forms were all floating around him; some looked like Vira but in different colors, bright red and deep blue.

Others looked like animals, a bright red monkey and a green cat. Luan blinked and rubbed his eyes. When he opened them again, the spirits were still there.

When he opened them again, they were still there. "What's this? Did you find all of those Vira?" he asked, staring at all the colorful creatures floating around him.

He felt that familiar bubbly sensation again, followed by the soft pressure of Vira snuggling against his cheek. Gently patting her head, a smile tugged at the corners of his lips.

"Now let's see... I see different shapes, but only four colors: blue, red, green, and brown," he muttered, inspecting the spirits closely.

"Are the colors just for show, or do they mean something?" Furrowing his brows, he tapped his fingers against his knee, his gaze lingering on the spirits.

"Ah, maybe it's related to the element or their abilities?" he blurted out. "It would make sense; let's assume it's like that for now. I would say red is probably fire and heat, blue would be water and maybe healing," he continued.

After saying that, Luan looked at Vira. "So, I'm right? Green is wind and speed. And brown must be earth, durability, or something like that." He felt the same bubbly sensation spreading through his body again.

Luan had a huge grin on his face; he had finally found spirits and multiple different ones at that. But now he had to choose which one to contract with.

He couldn't just carelessly contract with a random one; he had no clue how many he could contract and which ones were stronger.

'Didn't Mom say something about different evolutions in spirits? How do I identify which ones are evolutions and which ones aren't? he pondered.

Clearing his throat, he looked at all the spirits. "Hello, uhh, spirits? I'll just address you all like that. If you can understand me, could you form rows based on your element and evolution, please? If you followed Vira here, does that mean you want to contract with me?" he said.

After saying that, he observed all the spirits reactions closely, patting Vira. If this does not work, he has to think of a different approach.

Waiting patiently, he was starting to lose hope. 'I guess that would've been too easy. Well, time to think of another way to decide which spirit to pick.'

But just as he was about to start brainstorming again, he saw the spirits start to move slowly; first, they sorted themselves based on color. At the end, there were five different rows: a red one, a blue one, a green one, a brown one, and then finally a single bright purple spirit.

It was a bright purple hawk; Luan stared at it for a while. A grin spreading across his face. He wanted to just choose that one because it was the only purple spirit here, but he had to be careful; he didn't know enough about spirits yet to make such a rash decision.

After the spirits made five different rows based on colors, they moved again. Luan had no clue how to differentiate between spirit evolutions and which ones were more powerful, but it seemed they themselves knew it.

At the front floated the larger spirits; oftentimes they were in the form of larger animals like a bright red bear and a blue whale. At the back, they looked more like a copy of Vira but in a different color.

"So I guess Vira is still relatively weak. Let's just hope she can evolve to become more powerful over time." Luan muttered, taking a look at the bright purple hawk again; it was floating next to the other spirits all the way at the front.

Pointing at the hawk, a grin on his face. "Would you like to form a contract with me?" Luan asked it. Having no clue if this was the correct way to go about it.

But he had to start someway, so he decided to ask the spirits themselves; they clearly could understand him.

The hawk approached Luan slowly, landing right in front of him.

Luan stared at it. "Uhh, what now? I have no idea how to initiate a contract," he said, scratching his cheek awkwardly.

The purple hawk just stood there not moving a muscle; they stared at each other in a deadlock. The hawk couldn't talk, and Luan had no idea how to form a contract.
