Chapter 18: Chapter 18

Luan felt like he could contract more spirits, so he turned towards all the spirits in the air. He had Lumi, Vira, and Mara, so for the next one, he wanted an earth spirit to bolster his defensive capabilities. And that would round out his abilities nicely.

His gaze settled on a big brown gorilla floating at the front of all the brown spirits.

"You," he said, pointing.

The gorilla floated forward, circling him excitedly. And like the others, it stopped in front of Luan, waiting for his blood to complete the contract.

Luan, now unsure of what to expect, carefully bit his thumb. Letting the blood flow and land on the gorilla. He still braced himself for a test, but nothing happened; he just felt the connection form with the gorilla.

Luan blinked. "Well... that was easy." He snapped his fingers angrily; it was good that he didn't have to take a test for all the spirits. But he was frustrated that he didn't understand why he only had to take a test when contracting Lumi.

However, he had some theories that he could test out when the time came.

Then he turned toward the gorilla. "Alright, you need a name as well... How about Torg?"

And nothing once more, the gorilla stood there not moving an inch.

Luan rubbed his temples. "Well, I'll just stick with Torg then. Welcome to the team."

As he was saying that he felt the mark on his back heat up, all the spirits still floating in the air looked like they got a sign, and they all dispersed. Leaving only Luan, Lumi, Vira, Mara, and Torg standing there.

When the heat faded, there were no uncontracted spirits around anymore. Surprised, Luan looked around. "I guess that's my limit right now, or maybe forever. I have no clue how this sigil works," he muttered, clicking his tongue.

Clenching his fist, he turned toward the four spirits, a grin on his face. Now that he had four spirits, it was time to figure out exactly what he could do with them.

He raised his hand and focused on Lumi, the air around him shifting in response. He instinctively willed the spirit power forward, and a lightning bolt shot from his palm, scorching grass and leaves in front of him.

"Okay, that works," he muttered.

Next, he turned to Mara. The moment he focused on her, his palm felt wet. Flicking his finger forward, a small water ball danced into existence before expanding into a palm-sized ball. Then right after it popped, all the water fell on the ground.

"Water, check."

For Earth, he focused on Torg. The earth beneath his feet felt sturdier, more connected, and when he clenched his fist, he sensed the ground answering him. With a stomp, a small chunk of earth lifted beneath his foot, hovering for a brief moment before crumbling back down.

Luan nodded, taking mental notes. Individually, the elements responded easily, but what about together?

He concentrated on Lumi and Mara at the same time, lightning and water. When he used them together, the water ball in his palm expanded violently, lightning appearing in it flickering violently. The moment he let it go, the lightning went wild, bursting the bubble, scorching nearby trees, and almost setting them ablaze.

A slow grin spread across his face.

"This is going to be fun."

After hours of testing his abilities, Luan learned the basics of each element. Lightning for speed and destruction, water for versatility, and earth for defense. However, the real potential lay in combining any of the elemental spirits with Vira. That's when he discovered something strange.

Vira could absorb any of his other contracted spirits and enter Luan together with the absorbed spirit, but unlike last time, it was only a physical boost. That fusion gave birth to special boosts.

When Vira and Lumi merged and fused with Luan, he became much faster and more explosive, and his senses improved tremendously; it was like everything was happening in slow motion around him.

He could also better control the lightning, making it become even more destructive than it already was. And with Mara, he became a lot more flexible, almost as if he were becoming liquid.

Luan smirked. "Yeah... that'll do for now. I have other things to do now."

With that settled, he entered the carriage and saw everyone eating lunch.

"Perfect. Now that you're all here, I'll go over the plans going forward," Luan said, taking a seat at the head of the table.

Kian looked at Luan with determined eyes. No matter what Luan wanted to do, he would do his utmost to help him succeed, even if the idea wasn't the greatest.

Meanwhile the other servants glanced at each other; some were unsure if their young lord would have any good ideas. They hadn't seen him do any brainstorming the last couple of days; the only thing he was doing was staring into the air for hours on end.

And the next moment he was shooting around lightning and water; it was an eye-opening experience for them all.

"But first off," Luan started, turning toward Kian. "How is their training going?" he inquired, raising an eyebrow.

This was important to his plans; he needed capable attendants and not those that could only clean.

Clearing his throat, Kian looked around, then turned toward Luan. "Some are making rapid progress mastering their sigils like Kafele and Luciano. But most of them are capable of defending themselves against some thugs, I would say," he declared, a smile flashing across his lips but disappearing as fast as it appeared.

Luan looked around, carefully observing every servant one by one, a hand on his chin. Then he clapped his hands. "Alright then, we shall do it like this: first I will pitch some ideas to Lily, and I'll have her and some others work on those while I, Luciano, and Kafele go to the adventurers guild to earn some more funds."

Hearing that, Luciano and Kafele started grinning; finally, they had a chance to prove themselves to their lord. Helping in this carriage was nice and all, but this wasn't what they wanted with their combat-related sigils.

They wanted to fight to protect their lord and help Luan win battles.

Turning toward Kian, Luan continued. "And you, Kian, will stay here to protect the girls and the carriage while we are gone. After doing that for a while, we depart for the Xandrian Freeholds. Got it?" he asked, looking around.

"Understood!" they all shouted, fully out of sync.
