Chapter 23: Chapter 23

Standing face to face, Luan looked at the hobgoblin while still throwing axes, inspecting its abilities. "Guess it's not going to be that easy, huh?" he muttered, with a grin on his face.

He stopped throwing the axes he had formed and grasped one in each hand and took on a combat stance, inviting the hobgoblin to attack him.

The hobgoblin, sensing the change in Luan's demeanor, didn't hesitate at all, charging forward. Holding his cleaver above his head.

And slashing it downward, aiming for Luan's head, Luan, however, saw it coming from a mile away and positioned himself to brace for the impact, crossing the axes above his head.

Clang!

Even though his axes were made out of water, with his control over it, he had hardened them significantly. Feeling the impact throughout his whole body, he felt his arms numb a little.

'It might not be the smartest, but it has a lot of brawn at least,' he mused. He was glad it was strong; fighting only weak monsters gets boring fast. He wanted a challenge to improve his combat abilities and to feel the pressure.

Then he sent lightning through his axes, and because the creature's cleaver was metal, the lightning conducted through it, jolting the creature and momentarily stunning it. Seizing the opening, he lunged forward and cut off its left arm.

A smile on his face as he charred the arm he had just cut off. To taunt the hobgoblin.

The hobgoblin looked enraged; it let out the loudest roar Luan had ever heard. And seemed to go into a berserk state. Charging relentlessly at Luan, it didn't care about leaving openings. It had lost all thinking capabilities and was purely fighting on instinct right now.

Luan quickly fused with Lumi and Vira, enhancing his speed. He hadn't expected this hobgoblin to go berserk after only that much, or maybe it was a trait of goblins; who knows?

But with a smile on his face, he formed two lightning swords, holding one in each hand, and started only parrying and dodging the berserk hobgoblin.

Using the lightning swords to stun it and reposition himself so he wouldn't be in danger.

After stunning it a couple of times and barely dodging one slash after the other, Luan was starting to get bored. 'The only thing it does is just slash randomly,' he thought, yawning.

The creature jumped forward, raising the cleaver above its head and slashing downward. Luan casually blocked with his lightning sword, stepping back as he waited for the stun to wear off.

But the hobgoblin didn't stop; instead of being stunned, it charged straight at Luan after its lunge was blocked. Luan was surprised but was ultimately too late in dodging.

His right bicep was pierced by the hobgoblin's cleaver, and with a taunting shout, it looked at Luan with a smirk.

A sharp, burning pain exploded through his bicep. His fingers trembled, struggling to hold onto his weapon. biting his lip to not give the creature the pleasure of hearing him cry out in pain.

The hobgoblin slowly pulled the cleaver out, pulled his arm back, and thrust forward again. This time, however, he aimed for Luan's face.

Luan was enraged; how dare a mere hobgoblin hurt him, although he did know that it was his own fault for playing with it. But still.

He shouted, "Stop!" Aura spreading out with Luan as the center, the mark on the back of his hand lighting up.

The hobgoblin stopped mid-thrust, staring at Luan in disbelief. "Grahh Kach Kach!" he screamed, but looking around, he saw the other hobgoblins and even the two humans frozen in place.

He started panicking, trying to get his body to move; he no longer wanted to kill the human in front of him; he just wanted to flee.

But would Luan let that happen? Of course not, forming a scythe with water and lightning, he grinned, bringing the blade slowly to the goblin's neck, lazily cracking his neck a couple of times.

Then, without waiting, he beheaded the hobgoblin whose face was a mix of fear. rage and awe.

Luan sighed and used water to bandage his wound, making the bleeding stop. It looked like he had see-through skin on the places where the cleaver had pierced his arm.

Slowly turning toward Kafele and Luciano, he retracted his overbearing aura so only they could move.

"Finish it up; it's time to head back now," he ordered, turning around and walking out of the settlement.

Kafele and Luciano nodded solemnly and also beheaded the hobgoblins, running after Luan.

"So what's next, my lord?" Kafele cautiously asked; Luan didn't seem to be in a good mood after having his arm pierced because of his own carelessness.

"We'll go to the carriage and make them come here, load up all the corpses it can carry, and after that I'm not sure yet. Maybe we go back and cash in and see how much this would earn, or we can look around for some more," he said.

Patting Vira, who was seated on his head. Kafele and Luciano nodded, following closely behind Luan.

"Actually, Luciano, you stay here with Trog; make sure no one steals our spoils of war." Luan said, snapping his fingers.

And a brown gorilla appeared next to Luciano, who was taken aback; he looked at Luan, bowed slightly, and nodded. Turning around, he started gathering the corpses together to make loading them onto the carriage easier.

Luan nodded and ordered Trog to do the same, and the two started gathering the corpses together.

Then continuing onward toward the carriage, Luan yawned, "That was nice, but I'll have to be more careful next time. I guess it was a good lesson at least," he muttered to himself.

Kafele just nodded, but he was still shocked by Luan's prowess, making all five of them stop by just shouting stop. This had left a profound impression on him.
