Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 64: Explosive
Chapter 64: Explosive
As the potion slid down his throat, Jax felt his body jerk awake. The potion immediately woke him up and would keep him awake for who knew how long now.
He was sure he had more than a few hours, but beyond that he had no idea. It wasn’t something for him to consider at this very moment either. There was danger before him.
The young man who stood by the gate had now brought out a bow and arrow. Jax didn’t think the young man was a warrior himself, given the power of his fireball, but he still needed to be careful of the arrows.
He was himself a sorcerer who had been mistaken for a warrior just now, so he could very well be making that mistake as well.
"These two—they’re your handiwork?" Jax asked the young man.
"Two?" the young man laughed. "You don’t know half of it."
Jax held his axe tightly, readying himself to move in close. "You’re luring in people to kill, so I assume you do not have any intention to let me go," he said, his spells ready to activate. His skill was already activating at that point, his body growing strong at just the thought of it.
He waited for the young man to begin answering his question.
"If you think I will—"
Then he dashed.
Jax moved the fastest he had ever been, running to the young man. The young man raised his palm in a panic, ready to use a spell.
Jax jumped to the side, trying to dodge the attack, but he didn’t see anything come out of his palm. For a split second, he thought he had been played, but then he felt something wrap around his feet.
Jax fell flat on his face on the grassy ground, smacking his head. He quickly tried to get up, but the thing that wrapped his feet was still there. He turned around to look at it, but instead saw the young man pull on his bow, targeting Jax.
Jax quickly pushed himself off the ground, barely managing to stand in time as the arrow passed through where his head had been before. He looked down in that moment to see that his leg had been wrapped in thick roots that were hindering his movement.
Jax swung down with the axe, breaking apart the roots, clearing himself.
With the spell used up, Jax knew the young man wouldn’t have this very spell to use on him. He would have a fireball spell, and maybe other spells, so this was the time for Jax to attack.
Jax rushed toward him, axe in hand.
The young man looked horrified at the sight of Jax coming and stumbled to pull out an arrow and put it into his bow. But it was far too slow.
Jax was so much faster than that. He used his spell to immediately wrap the young man in his poison threads and arrived before him, axe ready to swing.
As he did, he saw the young man’s hidden grin.
A burst of light exploded from the young man, followed by a loss of senses for Jax. He landed a small distance away, not much hurt, but very disoriented.
His entire body had grown numb due to what had just happened, which he didn’t even know what it was. But from the feel of it, Jax wondered if it had something to do with the lightning element. He definitely felt shocked.
He gathered his wits at the last moment.
The threads he had placed around the young man burned away, and he easily got rid of it. Then, he easily placed the arrow into the bow, no longer panicking at all, and let it go.
Jax wanted to move, but his body was still numb, so his reflexes weren’t fast enough. The arrow landed on his shoulder, but wasn’t deep at all. It only pierced a bit of the flesh, mostly stopped by the defensive tunic.
He heard the young man click his tongue and saw him use Fireball once again. This time, he used all the strength in his body to finally dodge the attack.
He landed on the side, and almost immediately had something grab onto his legs once again. He looked down to see the roots around his leg. He was ready to chop it off but saw the young man nock another arrow into the bow.
Jax quickly put the axe before him, trying to protect himself, but the arrow never came. Instead, he heard footsteps and quickly pulled down the axe to realize that the young man had come close to him.
He jumped toward Jax, which could not have been good at all.
Jax used his spell immediately, wrapping many strings around the young man, but that seemed to have been entirely the wrong decision at that moment.
The young man grinned again as light flashed from his body and arcs of lightning bolts shot all around him at the same time, one landing on Jax as well.
Jax felt the terrible shock of the lightning bolt, feeling all the physical senses of his body grow numb. A burning pain came from his chest in that moment, where the lightning bolt had struck him.
Jax grunted as he got up, his potion from earlier helping him keep focus. He looked at the young man and saw that the threads hadn’t burned away this time.
Jax swung his axe, but the young man quickly walked backward, getting rid of the threads around him. He felt some slight stinging pain from the thread and knew not to keep it on his body for too long.
Jax cut down the roots, but didn’t immediately attack again. He needed to understand what it was that the young man was doing.
’He has fireball, roots that grab onto my legs, and whatever that defensive spell is,’ he thought. The defensive technique was the one that bothered Jax the most.
’It activated when I used my spell both times. What if I don’t use my spell?’
