Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 73: A Deal
Chapter 73: A Deal
Jax woke up with a groggy mind, his body feeling no pain at all. He opened his eyes and stared at a vast sea of blackness. It was as if he had woken up in the darkness of the void once again, the place where he had met the Navigator.
Had he come back there somehow?
He tried to call for Gemma, but his voice didn’t come out. All he could do was think. Speech was beyond him at that moment.
Jax tried to move, but he couldn’t. Jax began fearing more and more that he had been returned to that limbo that they called the Station.
He tried to remember how he had come to such a place. The last thing he remembered was the strange feeling of strength that came when he was wounded. Then...
He struggled to remember what happened afterward. He was certain he took the ticket after killing the boss, so he had to have left, right? How come he had returned to this place?
Jax stared at the unmoving darkness for a very long time, waiting for Gemma or some other helper to come get him again. He wanted someone to explain to him what had happened.
But even as he waited, no one did that.
After what felt like hours, Jax finally saw something. It was a light, no, a being. It was...
A young man?
A red-haired young man, with deep golden eyes and a hooked nose, walked up to Jax and stared down at him with the darkness stretching to infinity behind him.
"Are you awake?" the man asked.
Jax tried to speak again, but he had no voice.
"Well, your eyes are moving," the young man said. He crouched beside Jax and reached down with his hands. In the next moment, Jax’s entire world shifted as he was lifted from the ground and shown where he was.
A landscape that stretched on forever lay before him, with many people sitting on the soft grass, chatting with each other. He had believed he had returned to the Station, but what he had been seeing turned out to be the weird black sky that he had seen when inside the maze.
Jax couldn’t look around beyond what his eyes were already pointed at. He couldn’t even hear any sound at all, aside from what little sound the red-haired young man made. The young man let Jax’s head drop back to the ground and sat beside him.
"Alright, let me get to the point right away," he said. "When you arrived from the maze, you were close to death. If someone didn’t heal you right away, you would have died."
Jax stared at him, wanting to ask who had healed him.
"Fortunately for you, I might be that person," the young man said. "But, I don’t do that for free. I have used my spell on you to keep your body in a time-stasis, where your body remains frozen with zero changes after the moment I used my spell. Which means, you are technically still dying."
"You cannot feel anything or move any part of your body. Everything aside from your ocular and auditory functions is gone to you now. Worst part of all, no one else can save you since you cannot heal in your current state until my spell comes off."
Jax was beyond confused. He hadn’t fully grasped his situation. He had assumed that the young man had saved him from dying, but according to him, he was still dying.
He wanted to ask him questions, but that was beyond him in his current situation. All he could do was wait and let the young man speak.
"The moment my spell is undone, you will go back to dying. So, I will give you a chance. In 5 minutes, I will undo my spell, at which point I will have you make a deal with me. You will need to pay me 2000 Opal stones in return for me using my spell again. After you are frozen once more, you will go to the next world, where you will heal completely."
"You have 5 minutes to make this decision. When I undo this spell, you need to be ready with an answer. Give it all your thought."
Jax watched the young man turn around, leaving Jax with only himself.
2000 Opal stones was a fortune that Jax couldn’t possibly imagine how he was going to bring out. He had around 70 with him, so he would have to kill many beasts and save a lot in order to pay this man back for saving him.
2000 Opal stones was a number he couldn’t fathom as he was. How many months would he have to work without stopping in order to gather all of that? It was clearly a very stupid deal to make.
However...
’2000 Opal stones for my life,’ Jax thought. ’2000 Opal stones for my wish.’
When thinking about it like that, it was practically a bargain. There was not even a single doubt in his mind after that. He was ready to make that deal in order to be saved.
Exactly 5 minutes later, the young man turned around and tapped on Jax’s body.
Jax finally felt sensation throughout his body, not excluding the pain from his grievous wounds. He immediately screamed, his voice catching the attention of many out there.
The young man grabbed Jax’s hand at that moment. "2000 Opal stones to be saved. Do you accept it or not?"
"I accept!" Jax shouted. "I accept. Save me."
The young man smiled. "Then, we have a deal."
All pain and feeling disappeared from Jax’s body as it all froze once again. He could feel something settle inside of him in that moment, a sense of duty.
The deal was set, so now he had to pay 2000 Opal stones to the young man next to him.
The young man smiled down at him. "Congrats on making the right decision," he said. "In half an hour, when you’re registering on the other Carriage, I promise you that you won’t regret this decision."
