Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 153: There’s Nothing to Talk About Except Divorce
Quinn Gardner ignored the two people beside him and walked straight toward Nina Thorne.
For Nina Thorne, his arrival wasn’t bad luck—it was just infuriating.
She had finally managed to leave her child with her parents and come out with Serena for a breather, only for the man who made her skin crawl to follow her here.
She pretended not to see him and turned back to continue enjoying her dinner.
Seeing her ignore him, Quinn Gardner felt a sour knot in his stomach. Still, he had the whole weekend. There would be plenty of opportunities.
’Something has to happen on this mountain,’ he resolved, ’something to change the state of our relationship.’
He followed the path toward the larger group of people.
Serena Yardley paid the scumbag no mind and asked Ethan Yardley, who was beside her, "We’re having dinner. Have you two eaten yet?"
"Not yet."
"Perfect. You can eat with us, then."
Afraid her classmates would notice something was off, Serena Yardley deliberately kept her distance from Ethan. She stepped forward, shining a light on Ethan’s impossibly handsome face, and announced:
"Look who’s here, everyone."
When the students saw it was Ethan Yardley, they were all stunned.
One by one, they all stood up, shuffled to the side, and called out in unison, albeit a bit stiffly, "Good evening, Professor Yardley."
Ethan was the picture of a gentleman, pretending he didn’t know them. "Hello. Are you students from Arden University?"
Kylie Cross and the others quickly and excitedly replied, "Yes, yes! We’re all from Arden University."
"Professor Yardley, what are you doing here?"
"Is it really you, Professor Yardley?"
"Wow! I can’t believe I’m seeing Professor Yardley up close. This is so exciting!"
Ethan’s handsome face remained impassive. Facing their questions, he answered casually:
"My friend and I came out to shoot some photos and happened to run into you. You don’t mind if we join you, do you?"
"Not at all, not at all! Professor Yardley, please, have a seat here."
"Professor Yardley, would you like a beer or a soft drink?"
Ethan sat down cross-legged next to Serena Yardley. "Just some bottled water is fine."
He introduced Quinn Gardner to the students. "This is my friend. His surname is Grant. You can just call him Mr. Grant."
Several of the girls chimed in unison, "Hello, Mr. Grant."
Only Cynthia Meyer didn’t speak, but she gazed at Quinn Gardner with undisguised adoration, overjoyed that he was here.
Quinn Gardner hadn’t expected Cynthia Meyer to be among them. Glancing at his wife’s stony expression, he thought that sometimes, you really do need to keep your distance from other women.
So he pretended not to know Cynthia Meyer.
The group once again sat in a circle.
But the lively, free-and-easy atmosphere from before was gone.
Now, the university students were like well-behaved children, sitting awkwardly in their spots without a word, no one even touching their chopsticks.
The hot pot was bubbling away over its alcohol lamp, its fragrant aroma filling the air.
Serena Yardley’s mouth watered. She swallowed, picked up her chopsticks, and gestured. "What are you all spacing out for? Eat! Don’t get all shy just because two guys showed up.
"What’s so scary about a professor? And it’s not like he’s our teacher. Come on, hurry up and eat before everything gets overcooked."
Ethan Yardley also spoke up. "Everyone, please don’t be so stiff. You’re making me feel awkward about crashing your meal."
"Well, Professor Yardley, if you insist..."
Kylie Cross said.
Ethan gestured to them. "Please, everyone, eat. This young lady is right. I’m not your teacher, so there’s no need to be so afraid of me."
Hearing that, the others finally picked up their chopsticks and started eating again.
Over the course of the meal, everyone gradually warmed up to each other.
During this time, however, Cynthia Meyer served food to Quinn Gardner as if no one else was there.
She showed no reservations, solicitously saying, "Mr. Grant, this is delicious, you should try it. And this, too."
Her actions stunned the classmates around her.
But Cynthia Meyer didn’t care what others thought; she was deliberately trying to get close to Quinn Gardner.
This not only made Quinn Gardner extremely uncomfortable, but also had him constantly sneaking worried glances at Nina Thorne.
Nina Thorne acted as if she were blind and couldn’t see a thing.
When she was full, she got up and left.
Serena Yardley got up and followed her.
Nina Thorne chose a perfect spot, laid down a mat, and sat, gazing up at the starry sky, trying her best to forget the troubles plaguing her mind.
Sometimes, she knew she was only deceiving herself.
’My heart still aches.’
’There’s this heavy knot of anger in my chest, yet I pretend not to care at all.’
She reminded herself over and over: ’Nina Thorne, oh, Nina Thorne, what Quinn Gardner and the Grant Family did to you is enough to disgust you for a lifetime.’
’What is there left to care about?’
’Just drag it out for two more years. Even if he doesn’t want a divorce then, he’ll have to get one. After that, we’ll be complete strangers, going our separate ways.’
’So you have to stick to your principles. You must.’
"Serena, Ethan is looking for you."
Serena Yardley had just sat down with her friend and hadn’t even had a chance to speak when Quinn Gardner’s voice sounded in her ear.
She looked up. There were no lights here, so she could only make out the man’s silhouette by the moonlight.
Furious, she stood up and asked, "What are you doing here?"
"None of your business."
Quinn Gardner ignored her and sat down beside Nina Thorne.
Not wanting to breathe the same air as this man, Nina Thorne got up to leave.
Quinn Gardner seized the opportunity to grab her hand. In a low voice, he said, "Let’s talk."
"We have nothing to talk about, except a divorce."
She tried to shake his hand off, but couldn’t break free.
Quinn Gardner continued, "Nina, I know my mom went to see you. They just miss Leo and wanted to see him, that’s all."
Nina Thorne opened her mouth and bit his hand.
But he still wouldn’t let go. Furious, she snapped, "What in the world does Leo have to do with your Grant Family?"
"What do you mean, ’what does he have to do with us’? He’s my son."
Quinn Gardner was utterly shameless.
"Hah!"
With a cold laugh, Nina Thorne shook her head mockingly. "Son? A man who would morally blackmail his own son into giving up his bone marrow for an illegitimate daughter—are you even worthy of being called a father?"
Hearing this, Quinn Gardner’s face darkened. "Clementine is already dead. Why do you have to keep clinging to this?"
"What does her death have to do with me?"
Malice filled Nina Thorne’s face as she glared at Quinn Gardner and hissed, "But I will never, ever forget what your Grant Family did to me and Leo.
"Now let go of me with your filthy paws. Don’t come near me. I’m afraid you’ll make me so sick I won’t be able to eat for days."
Quinn Gardner was speechless.
The woman’s venomous words stabbed at him, making his heart ache with an unbearable pain.
He let go of her hand.
Nina Thorne immediately stood up, snatched her mat, and walked away.
Quinn Gardner didn’t try to approach her again. Watching her cold, distant figure retreat, he was overcome with despair, feeling as if there was no longer any hope for reconciliation.
Just then, Cynthia Meyer walked over and offered him a bottle of water.
"Mr. Quinn, the hot pot was a little spicy. Would you like some water?"
Quinn Gardner didn’t take it. Although his expression was hard to see in the moonlight, his tone was icy.
"Cynthia, let’s just pretend we don’t know each other. Don’t come near me again."
He got up and left.
Left standing there, Cynthia Meyer was suddenly overcome with a feeling of utter humiliation.
「...」
When Serena Yardley returned to the campfire, she didn’t see Ethan Yardley. She asked Azure:
"Where’s the other one?"
Azure asked, "Who are you talking about? Professor Yardley?"
Kylie Cross pointed. "He’s over there setting up a tent. We wanted to help him, but we were too shy."
"It’s fine. You guys have fun. I’ll go help him."
With that, Serena Yardley turned and walked away.
The remaining three roommates looked at each other and started speculating out loud.
"What’s up with Serena Yardley and Cynthia Meyer? They usually seem so reserved. Why are they so forward the moment a handsome guy shows up?" 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Yeah, Professor Yardley is really handsome, but his status is so intimidating. We don’t even dare to get close to him, but Serena acts like he’s no big deal."
"Maybe it’s because they have the same last name?"
"It’s probably because Serena Yardley is a rich girl who’s seen the world."
That was the only explanation the roommates could come up with.
Then they started discussing Cynthia Meyer. "What about Cynthia, then? Wasn’t she being way too forward with that Mr. Grant?"
"I thought so too. Do you think on a dark and stormy night like this, we might see a clichéd one-night stand happen?"
The roommates giggled mischievously. "You never know."
