Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 154: Fine, I’ll Divorce You
Serena went over to Ethan to help him set up the tent.
But Ethan stopped her, gesturing. "You can just stay on the side. I’ll do it myself."
"Alright, I won’t get in your way."
Serena squatted beside him and said,
"Quinn Gardner is so annoying. He’s always making Nina angry. And you—why did you even invite him? Now Nina’s all upset."
Ethan glanced in Quinn’s direction, but it was too dark at night to see clearly.
He looked back at the person beside him. "I was just trying to help them mend their relationship by bringing him along. How was I supposed to know Clementine’s aunt would be here too?
That woman is a piece of work."
She knew Quinn had a wife, and she knew his wife was right there, yet she still deliberately put food on his plate and got close to him.
Isn’t that a blatant provocation toward Nina?
"You can spot a ’green tea’ too?" Serena asked with a laugh.
Ethan was confused. "What’s a ’green tea’?"
Serena was speechless. "..."
’So much for that,’ she thought. ’I actually thought he was different from other men.’
’Turns out they’re all the same.’
"It’s nothing. So, if you were Quinn, what would you do?"
Seeing that it was too dark for Ethan to work, Serena turned on her phone’s flashlight to help him see.
They kept a casual distance, not too close and not too far, so that no one would notice anything unusual.
"I would never become another Quinn Gardner."
Ethan’s voice was firm as iron.
Serena huffed. "I said ’if’. What if Cynthia Meyer tried to get close to you? How would you handle it?"
"Give her some money and tell her to get lost."
Serena scoffed, "Give her money? Do you men have so much money you don’t know what to do with it?"
"What else, then?" he retorted.
Serena felt it was impossible to talk to him about women. Their different ways of handling things would only lead to arguments.
She decided it was better not to dwell on it with him.
Getting up, she said, "I’m going to find Nina. You can finish this yourself."
Ethan called after her, "Let Nina cool down on her own. You stay here and don’t run around, or you might fall."
Serena stopped in her tracks and asked him, "Are you sleeping with Quinn tonight?"
"Why would I sleep with Quinn?"
The tent was almost set up. Ethan started to pull out the sleeping pads to lay inside, making them extra soft so the person beside him could sleep comfortably.
Serena squatted at the entrance, still holding the light for him. "So you’re sleeping alone?"
"Why would I sleep alone? Aren’t you here?"
"I’m going to sleep with Nina. Besides, my classmates are here. What if they find out?"
"Who’s going to know in the middle of the night? No one will find out."
Once it was ready, he sat inside the tent and gestured to her. "Come in and try it out. If it’s not comfortable, I’ll go get another blanket."
Serena glanced left and right. Seeing that no one was paying attention to them, she slipped into the tent and lay down.
’Wow,’ she thought, ’a tent set up by a man really is more comfortable to sleep in than the ones we set up.’
Plus, the top of Ethan’s tent was transparent. Lying down, she could see the starry sky. It was so beautiful.
"You stay here for a bit. I’ll go get you some hot water."
Ethan left the tent.
As he went to boil some water, he saw Quinn Gardner sitting off to the side, dazed. He glanced around but didn’t see Nina Thorne.
He walked over and stood in front of the man, reminding him, "If you don’t go look for her now, when are you planning to go?"
’He had gone to so much trouble to create this opportunity for him.’
’He couldn’t just back down because Nina said a few harsh words, could he?’
’Does he even want his wife and child back?’
Quinn looked utterly dejected. "She’s like a hedgehog. The moment I get close, she pricks me."
And she did it with so much force that it made his heart bleed in pain.
"Mine was like a little hedgehog before, too, but isn’t she gentle and obedient now? When a man needs to use brute force, he should use it. Women are soft-boned by nature; they can’t stay tough for long."
Quinn seemed to understand what he had to do.
He stood up and patted Ethan’s shoulder. "Thanks, man."
Then he turned to look for Nina.
Ethan went to the bonfire. Just as he was about to boil water, Kylie Cross and Azure, who were nearby, quickly stood up to help him.
"Professor Yardley, let us help you."
"No need."
Ethan refused.
"It’s no trouble, we..."
"Even though you’re students from Arden University, I’m a germaphobe. I don’t like people touching my things, and I don’t like people doing things for me.
So please, do as you wish, but don’t pay any special attention to me."
Before the girls could finish, Ethan had cut off their thoughts and actions.
This instantly put a great distance between him and the two girls. Coupled with his high status, people who didn’t know him well wouldn’t dare to approach him casually.
But after he boiled the water and left, Kylie Cross muttered again.
"Professor Yardley plays favorites, doesn’t he? Serena Yardley was helping him just now, so how come he didn’t say anything to her?"
"Is it because Serena is pretty, and they’re from the same family?"
"Sigh! Forget it. We should just know our place."
...
Quinn Gardner searched the entire area but couldn’t find Nina Thorne.
Suddenly, he thought of the tents.
There weren’t many tents on the mountaintop, so he quickly located Nina’s.
He quietly crouched down, slipped into the tent, and zipped the flap shut.
Nina was lying in the tent with her eyes closed. When she sensed someone enter, she assumed it was Serena and didn’t turn on a light.
"Serena, why aren’t you on your date with Ethan? What are you doing here?"
Quinn remained silent and lay down beside her.
Nina added, "The stars are nice tonight. You don’t have to stay with me. Go sleep with Ethan."
The person beside her was still silent.
Nina found it strange and opened her eyes to look at the person next to her.
It was completely dark inside the tent, making it impossible to see clearly. She turned on her phone’s flashlight.
When she saw it was Quinn Gardner, her face instantly darkened, and she gritted her teeth in anger.
"Have you no shame? Get out."
Quinn rolled over to face her, playing pitiful. "Ethan dragged me here at the last minute, so I didn’t bring a tent. If you don’t let me sleep with you, I’ll have to sleep outside.
It’s cold on the mountain at night, and look, I’m barely wearing anything..."
"Quinn Gardner, do you think acting like this will make me go soft on you?"
Nina’s expression remained icy.
Quinn remembered what Ethan had said: ’When you need to use brute force, use it.’
’But he couldn’t be rough with this woman.’
’He had to coax her.’
He got up and knelt before her, reaching for her hand. "Wife, I know I was wrong before. I’m sorry. Please forgive me, okay?"
"Don’t touch me."
Nina was utterly disgusted and moved to leave the tent. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Suddenly, the man wrapped his arms around her from behind, nuzzling his chin into her neck and murmuring softly.
"Wife, don’t go. I really know I was wrong. I’ll do anything you ask, just please don’t push me away."
Nina clenched her jaw, her heart filled with extreme hatred.
She raised her hands to push him away.
When she couldn’t push him off, she grabbed his arm and bit down hard.
At that moment, her heart held only hatred, no love.
All that hatred transformed into rage, making her lose all reason as she bit down as if to kill.
Blood trickled from between her teeth. The pain made the man’s sharp brows furrow tightly, and he spoke through the agony.
"Fine. I’ll divorce you."
Her cold-bloodedness made him realize he shouldn’t keep debasing himself like this, lowering his own status and pride.
’He understood her, didn’t he?’
’The great miss of the Thorne Family, born into a prestigious and noble house, with her own pride and backbone.’
’Since he wasn’t good enough for her, why continue to invite his own humiliation?’
’He wouldn’t force it anymore. He chose to give up.’
’It’s not like he, Quinn Gardner, couldn’t find a wife. It’s not like there was no one else to bear him a son. Why should he torture himself half to death every day for a woman who didn’t love him?’
However!
Hearing the words that came from the man’s mouth, Nina finally loosened her bite.
The mouthful of blood made her feel nauseous.
She tilted her head and spat it out, then looked back at him. "Then let’s go back right now. We’ll sign the Divorce Agreement, and tomorrow we’ll get the official documents."
Quinn shone the light on his own mangled, bloody arm, feeling only desolate and ridiculous.
"Don’t worry, I won’t drag it out this time. But tomorrow is the weekend, so it’s useless to go back now. Let’s just spend two days with Ethan and the others first."
He got up and left the tent.
But he didn’t go far. With his back to Nina, his voice was low and hoarse.
"Nina Thorne, after the divorce, take the child and disappear. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee my parents won’t try to fight you for custody."
