Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 161: Found Out He Has Someone Else
After Nina Thorne left, Serena Yardley had no one to keep her company.
Watching Ethan Yardley by her side all day, his mind clearly elsewhere, she knew he couldn’t stand being cooped up at home.
That night, as they were getting ready for bed, she said to her husband, who was undressing by the bed, "You should go take care of your work tomorrow. You don’t have to spend the entire day at home with me."
Ethan Yardley glanced at her and sat on the bed. "But it’s the weekend. I figured since I haven’t spent any time with you all week, I should at least be with you for these two days while you’re off."
"We have a lifetime to spend with each other. It doesn’t have to be right now."
Serena Yardley tried to be more understanding.
She didn’t want to get in the way of his work.
Besides, when he was with her, he was always spacing out, lost in thought. It was better for him not to be there at all.
"We’ll worry about the future when it comes."
Leaning against the headboard, Ethan Yardley pulled her into his arms. "We should enjoy this precious time together now. I’ll take you out tomorrow."
Serena Yardley couldn’t change his mind, so she had no choice but to agree.
Ethan Yardley told her, "Let’s get some sleep."
"Okay."
The two of them lay down and fell asleep in each other’s arms.
Perhaps because he was by her side, Serena Yardley fell asleep quickly.
Ethan Yardley, however, could not.
The moment he closed his eyes, his mind replayed the incident with the other woman in this very room.
His mind was a chaotic mess, making it impossible for him to calm down and sleep.
Unable to sleep, he stared at the ceiling, replaying the events of that night in his head.
’If I was so drunk I was practically unconscious and couldn’t even tell who was who,’ he thought, ’how could I have possibly done something like that?’
’And Vivian Lynch... she had been crying and making a scene at first, but she quieted down the instant he gave her money.’
’It was the same with her pregnancy later on. Give her money, and she’d immediately behave.’
’As Mrs. Miller’s daughter, she must know me pretty well, right?’
’Besides, she’d spent time at the family estate.’
’Is it possible that, despite her young age, Vivian Lynch is much more shrewd than she lets on?’
At this thought, any desire for sleep completely vanished from Ethan Yardley’s mind.
Seeing that the woman in his arms was sleeping soundly, he gently moved her aside, slipped out of bed, and left the room.
In the hallway outside the room, he dialed Yannick Young’s number.
It was late, but when Yannick Young saw the call was from the President, he didn’t dare hesitate and answered immediately. "President."
"Which hospital did you take Vivian Lynch to?"
Yannick Young replied, "We were supposed to go to the provincial hospital, but she said it was too crowded and she was afraid of running into someone she knew, so she had me take her to XX Private Hospital instead."
"Do you know the doctor who examined her?"
"I don’t."
Ethan Yardley instructed, "Then go and look into it tomorrow. Find that doctor, get more details about her situation, and while you’re at it, ask if it’s possible to do a DNA test on the baby."
Yannick Young understood what this implied, but he couldn’t help asking, "President, forgive my presumption, but you and Vivian Lynch..."
"Don’t ask what you shouldn’t."
Ethan Yardley cut him off in a cold voice.
Yannick Young immediately backed off and shared his own thoughts, "I understand. It’s just that I feel many women these days have ulterior motives. They’ll do anything for money."
"I’m just worried that you’ve been set up, President."
He knew his boss better than anyone.
He remembered how the President had been a wreck, crying his eyes out, back when Miss Serena had her accident.
How could a man who loved Miss Serena so deeply possibly cheat on her while she was pregnant?
Especially with such a plain, ordinary woman.
It was completely out of character for the President.
"That’s why I’m telling you to investigate. Have someone monitor her every move, including her call logs. And find out who she’s been in contact with besides her family."
"Understood."
"Don’t tip her off. Once you have something, just..."
"Ethan..."
Before Ethan could finish, the door behind him was suddenly pulled open. Serena Yardley stood there in her thin nightgown, her eyes hazy with sleep.
He immediately hung up and rushed to her side. "What’s wrong?"
Serena Yardley’s face crumpled, her heart filled with a sense of grievance.
She looked at him and demanded, "Why did you leave the bed again? Who are you on the phone with so late at night? Are you seeing someone else?"
She’d had a nightmare that jolted her awake.
When she woke up and found his side of the bed empty, she was sick with panic.
’I can’t believe he snuck away to make a phone call,’ she thought. ’Is some woman calling for him this late at night?’
In that moment, Serena Yardley’s fear grew even stronger.
"Serena, don’t let your imagination run wild. I just thought of a work matter and had to call Yannick Young."
Afraid she wouldn’t believe him, he pulled up his call history and showed it to her. "See? It was Yannick Young."
Serena Yardley glanced at the phone. Seeing that the only recent call was indeed with Yannick Young, she finally calmed down.
"I really thought you were seeing someone else," she mumbled.
’He’s always like this,’ she thought. ’It gives me no sense of security at all.’
Ethan Yardley put his phone away, scooped her small frame into his arms, carried her back to the large bed, and leaned in to kiss her.
"Serena, don’t overthink things. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have left you in the middle of the night. Go back to sleep."
He held her tightly, trying to soothe her.
Serena Yardley felt she wouldn’t be able to sleep. Still feeling uneasy, she looked at him and asked, "Can I see your phone?"
Ethan Yardley asked her, "What do you want to check?"
"I want to see if you’re talking to other women."
She couldn’t be blamed for being paranoid; he was the one acting so strangely.
Her mind wouldn’t be at ease until she checked for herself.
Ethan Yardley was speechless.
’His business with Vivian Lynch wasn’t on his phone,’ he reasoned. ’And besides that one incident, he truly hadn’t done anything to betray Serena.’
He calmly handed her the phone.
Serena Yardley took the phone and scrolled through his call history, finding nothing unusual.
Then she checked his messaging apps.
Still nothing unusual.
His text messages were empty.
While scrolling through his contacts, she suddenly saw the name: Vivian Lynch.
A pang of bitterness shot through her heart. She asked him, "Why do you have Vivian Lynch’s number?"
Ethan Yardley explained casually, "Didn’t I arrange for her to be your study companion before? I kept her number so I could check on how you were doing."
"Then let’s delete it, okay? We won’t contact her anymore."
"Okay."
Ethan didn’t object, letting her delete it.
Barely two seconds after she deleted it, a text message popped up on the screen.
Serena Yardley only had time to make out the words "Mr. Yardley" before Ethan snatched the phone from her hands.
He moved with lightning speed, getting up with the phone in his hand. "Serena, you go to sleep first. I have some more business with Yannick Young."
He turned to leave, a guilty look on his face, but Serena called out to him.
"Who’s texting at two or three in the morning? Why are you so nervous? Give me the phone."
Ethan Yardley froze. Averting his gaze, he deleted the text message with one hand.
When Serena saw him fiddling with the phone, she shouted again, furious, "Ethan, I said give me the phone!"
After deleting the message, Ethan also blocked Vivian Lynch’s number before finally handing the phone back to her.
When Serena got the phone back, she didn’t check the block list. She only searched for the text message with the words "Mr. Yardley."
But she searched everywhere and couldn’t find it.
Furious, her eyes welling with tears, she glared at Ethan and yelled,
"You deleted it! So who was it? Ethan, if you’re seeing someone else, just tell me. I promise I won’t cling to you."
’Was her gut feeling right?’
’Was this why he’d agreed to the abortion and divorce? Why he was avoiding their bed now? Was it all because he had someone else?’
’To think that he, Ethan Yardley, would follow in Quinn Gardner’s footsteps and do something so depraved.’
