Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 163: Her Familiar Name
Hearing the voice, Serena Yardley didn’t panic.
She didn’t even look up, acting as if the man behind her didn’t exist as she sat on the edge of the bed, aimlessly scrolling through her phone.
Ethan Yardley walked over to her, looking down at her imperiously. "Thinking about divorce again? And you hired someone to investigate me?"
She remained sullenly silent.
’Didn’t he always say I just cry and throw tantrums?’ she thought. ’This time, I absolutely won’t make a scene with him.’
’Once I get the evidence, I’ll file for divorce and take half of his assets.’
’With that money, I’ll go find Nina and the others. I’ll give birth to this child and raise it on my own. Who would want to stay by his side anyway?’
"I’m talking to you. Do you really distrust me that much?"
Ethan was getting angry, and he growled at her.
Serena felt a sour ache in her chest. She wanted to act strong, but tears welled up in her eyes, betraying her.
Still, she refused to look up at him or say a single word.
Ethan continued, "If you really want a divorce, I can grant you that. But you have no reason to investigate me. I would even give you all of my, Ethan Yardley’s, assets.
"But if I gave them to you, could you even protect them?"
Serena finally couldn’t take it anymore. She looked up and glared at him, her eyes bloodshot. "Then when are we getting a divorce?"
Seeing the cold, hard expression on her small face, Ethan felt a suffocating tightness in his chest.
Suppressing his discomfort, he asked her, "You’re trying to divorce me over a single text message?"
"It’s evidence that you’re cheating."
"I told you I’m not cheating! Serena Yardley, are you trying to make me lose my temper?"
Perhaps she had struck a nerve, because he seemed to be growing angry out of shame.
The angrier he got, the more certain Serena became.
"If you weren’t cheating, why did you delete it? Mr. Yardley... let me think, what kind of person would call you that...?"
She tilted her head, pretending to think, then said casually, "I think... Vivian Lynch likes to call you that..."
"Serena Yardley."
He cut her off, his guilt making his expression ferocious. "I told you not to make me angry."
Seeing him fly into a rage, Serena couldn’t deny that she was a little scared.
Scared that he might hit her.
For her own sake and the baby in her belly, she decided to endure it for now.
Lowering her head, she said with a slight tremble in her voice, "Please leave. I want to rest."
Ethan turned his back to her, struggling to suppress the rage in his chest.
’I have to stop being so guilty,’ he thought. ’I can’t act like I actually had an emotional affair.’
’I’ve already had Yannick Young look into it. It’s possible Vivian Lynch set me up.’
’There’s no need to get angry with my own wife over some gold-digging woman.’
After calming the fire in his chest, he turned back to her and said in a low voice, "Serena, don’t overthink things. I’ll handle my affairs."
He turned and left.
Serena fell back onto the bed. It would be a lie to say she wasn’t overthinking things.
...
Ethan went downstairs.
He was worried Serena would get stuck in her thoughts and do something foolish.
He called his mother and asked her to come pick Serena up and take her to Yardley Manor for a while.
He would go pick her up from there once he had handled things and there were no more worries.
Upon receiving her son’s call, Sophia Quinn rushed over that very night.
When she walked into the villa and saw only her son sitting in the living room, she approached him with a stern expression and asked:
"What happened? Did you bully Serena?"
Ethan’s face was impassive. "She’s been overthinking things lately. Please take her to your place to rest for a while. Let the kids there play with her, so she won’t dwell on things."
Sophia Quinn shot her son a look and snorted coldly. "If you hadn’t done anything, why would she be overthinking things?"
"Mom, I’m your son. What do you think I would do?"
Ethan was growing impatient, his handsome face darkening.
Sophia Quinn stood up and asked him, "Is Serena upstairs?"
"Yes."
Shooting her son another glare, Sophia Quinn muttered as she went upstairs:
"A man who’s almost thirty-one, and you can’t even take care of your own wife. If her unhappiness affects my grandbaby, just you see how I’ll deal with you."
Entering Serena Yardley’s room, Sophia Quinn’s expression was once again kind and amiable. Her voice was gentle. "Serena, dear, are you asleep?"
Serena hadn’t expected her mother-in-law to come.
She quickly got up and said politely, "Mom."
"Yes. I heard you haven’t been feeling well lately. Are you alright?"
Serena shook her head.
Sophia Quinn brought her a coat and helped her put it on. "Come on, get up. Come stay with Mom at Yardley Manor for a few days. Don’t pay any mind to that stinky man."
Serena was speechless.
’Her mother-in-law wants to take her to Yardley Manor?’
’If I leave, won’t that man and his woman on the side have even more opportunities?’
’Is he sending me away on purpose?’
Serena didn’t want to go, but she couldn’t bring herself to refuse her mother-in-law’s loving concern.
In the end, she had no choice but to follow her mother-in-law downstairs.
As they passed through the main hall, the man in the living room stood up and said, "Mom, take good care of her. Call me if anything happens."
Sophia Quinn grew angry when she heard this. "Your wife is going back to the family manor, so what are you still doing here? Aren’t you coming with us?"
Ethan glanced at Serena, but seeing that she wasn’t looking at him, he felt a pang of bitterness in his heart.
He explained, "I still have some things to take care of. I’ll head over once I’m done."
Sophia Quinn couldn’t be bothered with her son anymore and led Serena out the door.
On Serena Yardley’s first night at Yardley Manor, even though everything was still unfamiliar, the people there were very warm to her, bringing her all sorts of delicious food and drinks.
Her aunt’s children also gathered around her, happily running in circles.
It wasn’t until eleven o’clock that Sophia Quinn sent her back to her room to rest.
Just as Sophia Quinn closed the door and left, Serena’s phone rang.
She picked it up and saw it was a video call from little Raina.
She sat up in bed and straightened her clothes and hair before answering.
Little Raina’s delicate, pretty face appeared on the screen. "Hey, Auntie Serena! I heard you’re back at Yardley Manor!"
Serena nodded and smiled back. "Why aren’t you at Yardley Manor?"
"My mom and I are abroad! Oh, by the way, my uncle is here too. Do you want to see my uncle?"
Before Serena could answer, the little girl ran toward Gabriel Galloway, who was a short distance away, holding the phone. "Uncle, Uncle, look! It’s Auntie Serena!"
There was a time difference with Eldoria; it was currently noon there.
Gabriel was dressed in the formal attire of Eldorian royalty, looking elegant and noble. Several maids followed behind him. Seeing the little girl run toward him, he bent down to her level to look at the camera.
When he saw Serena Yardley in the camera’s view, he suddenly seemed a bit shy.
"Serena..."
he called out gently.
Looking at the screen, Serena was a little curious about the magnificent formalwear Gabriel was wearing, the likes of which she had never seen before.
"Where... where are you guys right now? Why are you dressed like that?"
Raina immediately chimed in, "You didn’t know, Auntie Serena? My uncle is going to a Royal Family banquet tonight. And let me tell you, his fiancée will be there too!"
Gabriel immediately motioned to the little girl beside him. "Raina, don’t talk nonsense."
The little girl pouted and tilted her head.
"But it’s true! Uncle’s fiancée is the little princess of the Montgomery Family, Zoe Montgomery. She’s the same age as my auntie, I know it!"
"If you keep talking nonsense, I’m going to spank you."
Gabriel pretended to be fierce.
The little girl, pretending to be scared, quickly snatched her phone back and ran off, laughing into the camera as she went.
"Auntie Serena, we’re going to the palace now! I’m telling you, the palace is so beautiful! When you come visit, I’ll take you to see it."
Serena was at a loss for words.
She paid no mind to what the child was saying about a palace. Instead, a name was repeating itself with a strange familiarity in her mind.
Zoe Montgomery...
’Why does that name sound so familiar?’
