Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 63: A Jealous Old Man
「The next day.」
Serena Yardley woke up with a splitting headache.
Slowly sitting up, she rubbed her aching head and looked around.
This was her room, and she was wearing her favorite sexy lingerie nightgown?
’That can’t be right.’
She only wore this kind of sexy, lacy nightgown when she and Ethan were intimate.
She hadn’t worn it since Sylvia Schuyler showed up.
What happened to her last night? Why would she have dug this out and put it on?
She tried hard to remember, but she still couldn’t recall what had happened. Serena Yardley got out of bed to wash up.
Standing in front of the bathroom sink, she was shocked to see that her lip was cut and badly swollen, as if someone had bitten it.
’Damn it.’
’Who bit me?’
Thinking about the party at Nina’s house yesterday afternoon, Serena Yardley guessed it probably had something to do with a certain man.
She quickly washed up, got dressed, and went downstairs.
Mrs. Miller was cleaning up in the dining room. When she saw Serena Yardley, she smiled and said,
"Miss Serena, you’re up. Mr. Yardley gave instructions that you’re to go to the company after you’ve had breakfast."
Serena Yardley sat down at the dining table. While eating, she asked Mrs. Miller, "Who brought me home last night?"
She only remembered Ethan Yardley dragging her away. She seemed to have stubbornly refused to move on the street, and Ethan had left without her.
She couldn’t remember anything after that.
"Mr. Yardley carried you back. You seemed quite drunk," Mrs. Miller said with a smile.
Serena Yardley was stunned. "Then who changed my clothes?"
"It was Mr. Yardley. You threw up on the bed last night, so I just changed the sheets. He was the one who bathed you and changed your clothes."
Serena Yardley was speechless.
’That bastard would be so kind?’
’Doesn’t he despise me? Didn’t he say I was dirty?’
Sometimes, Serena Yardley truly didn’t understand what was going on in Ethan’s mind. She couldn’t be bothered to figure it out, so she quickly finished her breakfast and headed out.
Just as she stepped out of the courtyard, she saw a black supercar slowly approaching.
Before Serena Yardley could get a clear look at the person inside, the supercar pulled up beside her.
The window rolled down, revealing a handsome, jade-like face.
He smiled, his voice as gentle as the wind. "Serena, where are you headed? I’ll give you a ride."
Looking at him, Serena Yardley replied, embarrassed, "I’m going to my husband’s company. I’ve already called a car; it should be here soon."
Julian Thorne got out, walked around to the other side, and gallantly opened the passenger door for Serena Yardley, gesturing for her to get in.
"Perfect timing. I’m going to his company too. Come on, let’s go together."
Serena Yardley hesitated.
Julian Thorne looked at her and chuckled. "Afraid I’m going to kidnap and sell you?"
Serena Yardley shook her head and, finding it hard to refuse, got into the car.
As the sports car drove off, she said tentatively, "I’m so sorry about ruining your party yesterday."
"It’s fine. We’re all neighbors now anyway, so we’ll be getting together often. Don’t worry about yesterday."
Turning to look at the person beside him, Julian Thorne asked probingly, "Ethan Yardley... he didn’t do anything to you last night, did he?"
Serena Yardley shook her head. "No."
In reality, she couldn’t remember what happened last night at all.
’But considering how much Ethan detests me,’ she thought, ’he probably wouldn’t have done anything to me, right?’
"What happened to your lip?" Julian Thorne asked again.
Serena Yardley subconsciously touched her cut lip and quickly lied, "Oh, I was drunk last night and fell. I must have bitten it then."
"Well, you should be more careful next time."
"Yeah, I will."
Julian Thorne deliberately changed the subject. "Serena, you’re so beautiful. Have you ever thought about getting into the entertainment industry?"
Hearing this, Serena Yardley gave an awkward laugh. "I can’t act. I’d better not."
"What’s there to be afraid of? I can teach you. Or you could apply to film school and learn gradually."
"No, thanks. I need to focus on working and earning money right now."
’I have to pay back the one million I owe Ethan, divorce him, and escape this suffocating, dreary marriage.’
But Julian Thorne wasn’t ready to give up.
"That’s perfect. The entertainment industry is where the money’s at. If you act with me, even if you don’t play the lead—say, a second or third female lead—a single show only takes a few months to film, and you can earn at least a million in salary."
It was true that Julian Thorne wasn’t a huge star, but his family was incredibly wealthy.
In the entertainment circle, anyone with a bit of fame or background was connected to his family in some way.
With those connections, how could he worry about finding roles for the people around him?
When Serena Yardley heard she could earn a million in just a few months, her heart instantly skipped a beat.
She turned to look at Julian Thorne, who was driving, and asked in surprise, "Is the entertainment industry really that lucrative?"
Julian Thorne laughed. "Of course. And that’s on the low end. Those with a bit of fame can make tens of millions, or even over a hundred million, from a single show."
Serena Yardley was speechless.
OMG!
’Poverty really does limit one’s imagination.’
’If I could really act and earn a million a year, wouldn’t that mean I could pay Ethan back in a year and leave him in a year?’
Julian Thorne was truly her savior.
Not wanting to lose such a great opportunity, Serena Yardley took the initiative.
"Um... let me get your number. I’ll call you once I’ve thought it over."
It was only then that Julian Thorne remembered he didn’t have Serena’s contact information yet.
He pulled out his phone and handed it to her. "Put your number in for me, and let’s add each other on WeChat."
"Okay."
Serena Yardley sat to the side, entering her details.
Soon, Julian Thorne’s sports car pulled up in front of the Serene Empire Tower.
The two of them had just gotten out of the car when they happened to run into Ethan Yardley. Dressed in a sharp suit, he was leading a group of people out of the building with a powerful aura.
And Ethan, in turn, saw Serena Yardley getting out of Julian Thorne’s car.
He stopped in his tracks, his expression darkening instantly.
The senior executives following him also stopped, waiting for their CEO’s next move.
Seeing so many people, Serena Yardley wanted to silently shrink into a corner.
Julian Thorne, however, smiled and walked up to Ethan. "Ethan, morning."
Ethan didn’t respond. He glanced expressionlessly at Serena Yardley and threw out two words: "Get in."
Yannick Young hurried forward to open the car door. Ethan ducked inside, and the other executives got into their own cars.
But Yannick Young didn’t close the door right away. Instead, he looked at Serena Yardley in the distance and gestured, "Miss Serena, please get in the car."
Only then did Serena Yardley reluctantly get into the car.
Finally, the convoy of sedans drove away, leaving Julian Thorne standing there with the strange feeling of being left out in the cold.
In the car, Ethan’s face was as dark as it could possibly be.
He pursed his thin lips and said coldly, "Serena Yardley, are you so desperate that you throw yourself at any man you see?"
’She just met Julian Thorne last night, and today she’s arriving at the company in his car.’
’Is this her way of declaring to me, Ethan Yardley, that she’s so capable she has plenty of men who want her?’
’Damn it.’
Ethan felt as though a massive boulder was crushing his chest. It was a sour, stifling feeling that left him breathless.
"I just ran into him when I left the house. He said he was coming to your company, so I just came along."
"Did I not give you money? Or did I not provide you with a driver?"
Ethan yelled at her furiously.
Serena Yardley’s heart clenched. She met the man’s gaze and retorted, "What’s wrong with getting a ride in his car?"
Suppressing the fire in his heart, Ethan ordered Yannick Young, who was in the passenger seat, "Call Sylvia Schuyler. Tell her to come work by my side."
