Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 64: Unworthy of Being My Wife
Hearing the older man say he was having Sylvia Schuyler come work by his side, Serena Yardley felt a sharp pang in her heart.
She fought back the ache, trying her best to remain calm as she asked him, "When are we going to get the divorce papers?"
’Once Sylvia gets here, I’m leaving.’
’As for the money I owe Ethan, I’ll go act with Julian Thorne. I’m sure if I work hard enough, I’ll be able to pay back that one million soon.’
’I can’t stand being around this man anymore.’
’I’ve really had enough.’
Ethan Yardley turned to the girl beside him, his tone laced with sarcasm. "So eager to sever ties with me? Serena Yardley, even if we get divorced, you’ll never be able to cut me out of your life."
"I just want to know when we’re getting the divorce."
She glared at him, her eyes red with anger, her face full of resentment.
Ethan Yardley looked like he was about to explode, but he checked himself.
’Yes, this must be the real Serena Yardley.’
’As for last night...’
’That was just the alcohol talking.’
’Maybe in her heart, she stopped caring about me a long time ago.’
He stopped looking at her, sitting up stiffly as he said in a cold tone, "Don’t worry. It’s just a matter of time. You’re not worthy of being my, Ethan Yardley’s, wife."
Serena Yardley felt her chest tighten again. She gave a cold laugh.
"You’re right. How could I ever be worthy? I was so stupid back then, proposing a fake marriage to you."
"You’d better find the time for us to get this divorce over with. I’ll pay you back what I owe you. I hope we can go our separate ways and never see each other again."
’She truly prayed for that day to come quickly.’
’She couldn’t bear to be by his side for another second.’
’It was absolute torture.’
Ethan Yardley’s fists clenched. Hearing Serena Yardley’s words, a vicious look crossed his face, and he had the sudden urge to hit someone.
But he held himself back.
He kept reminding himself not to waste his breath arguing with a young woman in her twenties. It was pointless.
’If you’re going to do something, do something real.’
Several cars sped directly toward the deep mountains in the suburbs.
The Serene Empire was planning to build an unprecedented, large-scale, and fantastical forest-themed resort deep in the mountains.
The investment was in the hundreds of billions, so several planning directors were personally escorting their boss to inspect the chosen location in the mountains.
The entire journey took about five hours.
After sitting for so long, Serena Yardley started to feel carsick again.
It was quiet in the car. Not wanting to say another word to the person beside her, she leaned against the side and fell asleep without even realizing it.
It was already three in the afternoon when the group arrived at their destination.
Serena Yardley woke up to find the car had stopped. She quickly pushed the door open and got out.
Aside from a few cars, there was no one around.
They were surrounded by mountains covered in lush, green trees, and birds were chirping in the branches.
Although she didn’t want anything to do with the older man, she couldn’t help but feel this place was a little creepy.
’It would be safer to stick with that group of older men.’
Taking out her phone, Serena Yardley dialed Ethan Yardley’s number.
But it was Yannick Young who answered. He asked, "Miss Serena, are you awake?"
"Ahem, uh... Where are you guys now?"
"Get out of the car, and you’ll see a single path in front of you. Just follow that path straight ahead. We’re not far."
"Oh, okay."
After hanging up, Serena Yardley followed the path Yannick Young had described.
Even though it was the peak of a scorching summer, the valley felt chilly, giving off an inexplicably hair-raising sensation.
The deeper she went, the louder the sound of a flowing creek became. The sky grew more obscured, and she could hear strange animal calls.
Feeling a little scared, Serena Yardley started to run.
After running for a while, just as she saw a sliver of sunlight, she suddenly heard a noise up ahead.
Overjoyed, Serena Yardley quickened her pace.
But before she could get close to the people ahead, she froze.
Not far away, Sylvia Schuyler was soaked to the bone. Her thin dress clung to her body, accentuating her sultry and alluring figure.
She gazed affectionately at the equally drenched man before her and said in a soft, delicate voice, "Ethan, you know I want to be your woman."
Thinking about how he had just jumped into the water to save her without a second thought, Sylvia Schuyler summoned her courage, stood on her tiptoes, and leaned in to kiss him.
"Ethan, please, let me have you. Right here."
’Right here in this valley... how thrilling.’
Ethan Yardley stood tall and straight. Faced with the woman gradually closing in, he remained unmoved.
He even wanted to raise a hand and push her away.
But Sylvia Schuyler was fast. She wrapped her arms around his neck, tilted her chin up, and pressed her lips against his cold ones.
Ethan Yardley froze, failing to push her away in that moment.
And not far away, Serena Yardley witnessed the entire scene with her own eyes.
She staggered back a step, her eyes filled with despair, her heart turning to ash.
’Why do they have to humiliate me like this?’
’Why did they have to let me see them locked in a passionate embrace?’
’Are they here to work, or to do sordid things in secret?’
Serena Yardley turned and ran, tears streaming from her eyes the moment she moved.
As Ethan Yardley came to his senses and was about to push Sylvia Schuyler away, he caught sight of someone in the corner of his eye.
By the time he turned to get a proper look, the figure had already spun around and fled.
In the next second, he roughly shoved Sylvia Schuyler away and growled:
"That’s enough, Sylvia. I’ve told you before, even if I marry you in the future, I will never have feelings for you."
Not knowing where Serena might have run off to, Ethan Yardley suddenly grew anxious and hurried to follow her.
Sylvia Schuyler, who hadn’t noticed Serena Yardley’s presence, suddenly grabbed Ethan Yardley.
"Why? You made it so I can’t have children. My whole life is ruined because of you. Why can’t you love me?"
Ethan Yardley looked back at her, clearly impatient.
"Love isn’t something you can get just because you want it, nor is it something I can give just because I want to.
Its existence is beyond my control. I told you I would take responsibility for you, but I’m sorry. I can’t be physically intimate with you, and it’s even more impossible for me to love you.
Go find Yannick Young and the others. I’m leaving."
Ethan Yardley hurried off in the direction Serena Yardley had disappeared.
Sylvia Schuyler’s face twisted in rage as she shouted at his retreating back, "On what grounds? Ethan Yardley, on what grounds do you treat me like this?"
「 ... 」
Serena Yardley was running so fast that she carelessly twisted her ankle.
She collapsed to the ground in pain, hugging her knees and forcing herself not to cry.
One hand pressed against her throbbing ankle, the other clutched at her heart, which felt as if it were splitting apart. She gritted her teeth and reminded herself over and over.
’Serena Yardley, you can’t cry. No one will feel sorry for you. No one cares about your feelings.’
’The more you cry, the more they’ll think you’re easy to bully, and then they’ll just double down.’
’Your heart is already dead anyway. Leaving that man is a sure thing, so why should you care about what he does with other women?’
But her tears were traitorous, refusing to stop.
As she sobbed, she suddenly saw a pair of expensive, custom-made leather shoes appear before her.
Serena Yardley knew who it was. Without even glancing up, she endured the pain and tried to get up and leave again.
Ethan Yardley reached out and grabbed her arm, his tone accusatory.
"Serena Yardley, I told you to stick by my side 24/7. What took you so long?"
