Snowstorm: I'm Super Rich in the Apocalypse-Chapter 400 Change of Strategy
Chapter 400: Chapter 400 Change of Strategy
When the sun rose in the morning, they had already settled down in a building for rest. The caravan had left people to stand guard; it was quite safe. Of course, Gu Pan wasn’t particularly worried because Chen Shaonan had been concerned about their supplies being stolen, and had taken the initiative to set up an electric net. They had high-capacity power sources capable of supporting an electric net as big as the truck doors, which, once deployed above, ensured absolute safety.
Gu Pan and her friends were resting in a building, and Qin Qianqian had deliberately stayed with them, bringing along Zhang Manman and Wang Ke.
They didn’t carry a lot of food with them, so they did not mind who was nearby. Moreover, everyone gathered near the two buildings, none with locks or keys, leaving no private spaces to speak of; thus, whether there were people around or not, they were always on guard.
The only advantage now was that the sun was mostly overhead, so not too much sunlight could enter through the windows. It was safe, and there was no need to cover them.
They picked a relatively large three-bedroom, single-living-room apartment.
Men and women rested separately; those who snored stayed in one room, and the living room was used for taking six-hour guard shifts since doors that couldn’t be locked were unsafe.
Once everything was arranged, they began to eat, and afterwards, they could go to sleep.
Gu Pan and her companions each had their own food, and at this time, they were eating and drinking water with what they had brought.
For water, they could go to the base to fetch it from the water truck, which provided both hot and cold options.
Since there were outsiders present, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng ate with everyone, offering sweet potato cakes that looked identical on the outside to those they had made previously to fool others, but these actually had rice grains inside instead of maggots.
After all, since everyone had roughly the same food, nobody paid much attention to what others were eating.
After finishing their meal, Gu Pan pulled out a pack of fruit jelly: "Whoever wants some, help yourself."
As everyone had their own cup, they just needed to grab some, add water, and mix it in.
Chen Lang and Meng Meng were naturally the first to come up, followed by others from their team who took a little bit for their cups, not daring to use too much — just a hint of flavor was nice enough.
Here, Gu Pan had also added crushed vitamin and calcium tablets.
Zhang Manman, seeing Qin Qianqian take some, hesitated before finally asking Gu Pan, "Sister, can I have some too?"
Gu Pan nodded: "Mm."
Zhang Manman took a modest amount, expressing her thanks to Gu Pan with a smile.
Wang Ke’s face turned red with effort as she eventually spoke up, "Sister, I was really wrong last time. I want some too."
Without saying much, Gu Pan passed it over: "Take it yourself."
Wang Ke pinched a little, looking at Gu Pan, uncertain if it was too much.
Gu Pan, silent, took back the fruit jelly; what Wang Ke had taken was enough, and Gu Pan didn’t want to waste time on her.
Wang Ke placed the fruit jelly in her cup, not daring to speak to Gu Pan; she was a bit scared of her — she seemed like someone who could really fight.
But Gu Pan didn’t know what she was thinking, nor did it matter.
Everyone mixed their fruit jelly and sat down to chat before going to bed.
With the outside sunlight so bright, the room was well lit too, and Gu Pan took out two sleep masks, giving one to Lu Ruisheng, and then resting her head on her pack, she quickly fell asleep.
However, suddenly sleeping during the day wasn’t possible for everyone, so those who couldn’t sleep just sat in the living room, turning it into a lookout.
Most of them didn’t have to drive, so it wasn’t a big deal if they couldn’t sleep now; they could sleep in the vehicles when it was time to hit the road again.
They slept well that day. After the sun set, Gu Pan got up, stretched, wiped her face with a wet wipe from her Space when no one was looking, and then went out to chat with everyone and finish dinner.
Dinner was the same fare as before, but Gu Pan brought out a bottle of salted meat sauce, giving everyone a small spoonful to add some flavor.
Zhang Manman whispered to Qin Qianqian, "Qianqian, we’re really lucky to be with you, eating good things every day."
Wang Ke said with embarrassment, "Qianqian, thank you, and please thank your sister for me too. I’m scared of her and don’t dare to talk to her."
Qin Qianqian replied with a smile, "My sister is so gentle; how can you still be afraid of her?"
Wang Ke shook her head: "I’m just scared."
This topic wasn’t a big deal, so the conversation quickly ended.
After eating, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng went out for a walk.
Downstairs, a doctor was seeing patients in the open space.
Some people had gathered around, discussing that the old man who had fainted before had passed out again, and his condition was not good.
Gu Pan remembered what Chen Shaonan had mentioned — if severe sun exposure occurred, it could lead to cancer. This old man had sunbathed at noon every day when the sun was at its strongest, indeed facing a risk, yet no one could have anticipated this.
Besides those who fainted, there were several with sunburned skin and uncomfortable eyes, all in line waiting to be diagnosed.
As there was no medical equipment to provide definitive diagnoses, the situation didn’t look good, with all signs pointing to more severe conditions emerging. Even those who had been fine before were feeling unwell that night and came seeking advice.
But these things were beyond Gu Pan’s understanding; protecting themselves was the best they could do for now. freewebnøvel_com
After nightfall, they hit the road again.
Travel at night had to be slower because the roads were in disrepair after years of neglect. The recent torrential rains had created many potholes, and although the water had dried up, the potholes remained. It was fine during the day, but at night, the journey took twice as long.
Fortunately, the moonlight was decent, but the progress was still delayed.
The next morning, upon reaching a city and stopping the vehicles, a crowd of people surged forward.
Falling to their knees before the army soldiers, the leader pleaded for help, "We know you’re from the base, please save us."
From a distance, Gu Pan was genuinely startled by these people, their faces and heads covered in tumorous growths, a frightening sight with their features no longer recognizable.
Some base team members, timid at heart, began to scream in horror at this moment.
The military leader, hardened by experience, responded, "I’m sorry, we’ve run out of medicine too. You know we’re protecting humanity’s last hope."
The leader’s eyes filled with disappointment, "Are we just supposed to wait for death?"
The military leader didn’t say yes or no, "I really can’t help."
These people knew that force wouldn’t work, which is why they knelt down outright; now they realized begging was futile too. They could only get up and leave in despair. They’d continue to eat mutant creatures, the tumors on their bodies multiplying until death — that was their fate.
What had been a somewhat cheerful crowd now fell silent.
Of course, these were all known and unchangeable facts, but people from the base felt fortunate that they had never consumed mutant creatures; otherwise, they would have ended up the same way.
Although these incidents didn’t affect much, they pierced deep into everyone’s hearts.
Fortunately, their caravan was large and their weapons were well-equipped, preventing any private organizations from attempting to rob them.
