Song Dynasty Dreams: Marrying Zhao Pan'er at the beginning-Chapter 20 - The Stubborn Song Yinzhan
Chapter 20 The Stubborn Song Yinzhan
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, Gao You casually put away his fishing rod.
“Are you giving up?”
Song Yinzhan looked at him in confusion.
Gao You ignored her, instead pulling a slingshot from his waist and instructing Xiao Lingdang, “Go into the water and grab the fish.”
Then, without another word, he fired a stone into the river.
“Splash!”
A large ripple spread across the water.
Song Yinzhan’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Brother-in-law!”
“You’re not seriously trying to hit fish with a slingshot, are you?”
“I suggest you just—”
“Splash!”
Another stone hit the water.
Xiao Lingdang suddenly shouted, “A fish floated up!”
“You actually hit one!”
Even Zhao Pan’er was stunned. She never expected Gao You to be this skilled with a slingshot. His precision was almost supernatural!
Gao You smirked at Song Yinzhan.
Song Yinzhan, unwilling to admit defeat, crossed her arms.
“That must’ve been pure luck!”
“There’s no way you can hit a moving fish with a slingshot!”
So she still refused to admit reality?
Gao You pulled another stone from his pouch, aimed at the water, and released the slingshot.
“Splash!”
Another fish floated belly-up.

“Wow, a perfect shot!”
Xiao Lingdang cheered and immediately dove into the water. She really was wild—like a little boy. But Gao You wasn’t paying attention to her. Instead, he focused on the fish swimming near the shore.
“Splash, splash, splash!”
With rapid shots, the fish near Zhao’s Teahouse were wiped out. By the time they stopped, they had caught six or seven fish.
Not because there were only six or seven fish in the area—But because the others had all fled.
“Let’s go further out!”
Gao You was starting to enjoy himself. It felt just like those fishing arcade games he played in his past life—except these fish were real. And once caught, they could be made into a delicious stew.
Before the sun set, he and Xiao Lingdang had gone nearly a mile down the river. In total, they caught sixty-three fish.
_____
“Yinzhan-jie!”
Xiao Lingdang returned to the teahouse, carrying a bucket. Song Yinzhan, looking utterly defeated, sat on a bench with her pipa.
“How many?”
“Sixty-three!”
“What?”
Song Yinzhan had expected a lot—But sixty-three!
One song per fish…
How long was she going to be playing?
However, Gao You didn’t press her to start playing right away.
Instead, he casually went to take a bath.
By the time he returned, Zhao Pan’er had already prepared warm water for him.
“Alright, time to start!”
Xiao Lingdang grinned mischievously at Song Yinzhan.
Song Yinzhan had no choice but to begin playing. As the pipa melody filled the air, Gao You enjoyed his bath, then had dinner at the teahouse.
All evening long, Song Yinzhan played. But even as everyone else was getting ready to leave, she still had over twenty songs left to play.
“Wife, let’s go home!”
Gao You reached for Zhao Pan’er’s hand, ready to leave.
Zhao Pan’er, feeling sorry for Song Yinzhan, smiled and pleaded, “Let’s call it a night.”
“Let Yinzhan go rest.”
Gao You nodded, deciding not to push further.
Zhao Pan’er quickly walked over to Song Yinzhan.
“Let’s stop here for today.”
“No.”
Song Yinzhan shook her head firmly.
“If I lost, I have to accept the punishment.”
“I have pride—I must finish playing tonight!”
Zhao Pan’er chuckled.
“Gao Lang already let you off the hook.”
“I still want to finish!”
Song Yinzhan’s tone was resolute.
Knowing her stubborn nature, Zhao Pan’er didn’t press the issue.
“Yinping, take care of her.”
Yinping nodded.
“Don’t worry, Pan’er-jie!”
With that, Zhao Pan’er and Gao You left for home.
______
The Next Morning, Gao You accompanied Zhao Pan’er to the teahouse. But even after opening for a while, no customers had come in.
“Where is everyone?” Gao You asked Sun Sanniang.
Sun Sanniang smirked.
“You don’t see your wife standing right here?”
Gao You sighed.
Couldn’t he ask someone else?
He gestured towards the guest area.
Sun Sanniang chuckled.
“Young Master Gao, are you actually concerned about business now?”
“The Li family’s third daughter is getting married today. Everyone must have gone to watch.”
A Song Dynasty wedding?
Now that piqued Gao You’s interest.
Though he himself had been married on his first day in this world, he had no idea what the full ceremony entailed. The only parts he personally experienced were the bowing and the bridal chamber.
And even then, the bridal chamber part had been purely ceremonial—nothing had actually happened.
“Want to go watch the festivities?”
Zhao Pan’er immediately saw through him.
Gao You grinned.
“Shall we go together?”
“Sanniang?”
Zhao Pan’er looked at Sun Sanniang.
With no customers in the shop and all the pastries already prepared, Sun Sanniang nodded. So, they locked up the teahouse and headed for the Li family’s home.
______
“We got here at the perfect time!”
Sun Sanniang pointed at the Li family’s front entrance.
“The bride is just coming out!”
The bride’s wedding attire was far more extravagant than what Zhao Pan’er had worn. Gao You watched the ceremony with great interest.
The entire wedding process was extremely elaborate. Good thing he had only experienced the final parts of it himself. If he had gone through the full ordeal, he would’ve probably lost three pounds from exhaustion.
