Chapter 247: The Chase

"Aren’t you going to take a look at Leo’s new look? It is pretty hot~" Lily purred with both enthusiasm and mirth.

Unable to stand it any longer, Luna whipped her head around blushing.

"You do realize that Nyx and you are acting like bitches in heat for MY brother! I have half a mind to kill you both!"

Rachel smirked in response.

"So you can have him to yourself?"

Luna stepped forward, hands clenched into fists. "Say that again. I dare you."

Rachel tilted her head, unfazed. "Relax. If you want to climb him like a tree, just say so. We’ll cheer you on."

Luna’s entire face went red in an instant as she let out a furious shout and lunged at her.

Rachel yelped and spun on her heel and blinked away to safety. A peel of laughter echoed from the treetops.

"Ease up Luna~! I was kidding...mostly."

"Get back here, you little shit" Luna hissed with fury chasing after the sound of her voice

Adam, watching the scene unfold in front of him, blinked slowly.

"...What the hell just happened?"

Lily laughed lightly, cradling Moku in her arms as the little pup let out a soft, confused whimper.

"We should probably chase after them, right?"

Adam stared in the direction Luna had vanished, the trees still rustling from her pursuit.

"Only if we want to make sure Myx survives the next five minutes."

Moku let out a tiny bark as if in agreement, his ears twitching at the distant sound of Luna shouting obscenities.

Lily nuzzled his head gently. "Don’t worry, sweetie. Auntie Luna’s just... very passionate."

Another crash rang out in the forest, followed by Rachel’s voice, distant but gleeful.

"You missed~! Gotta do better than that Bunny~!"

Luna’s furious roar was the only response, followed by the sound of shattering wood, most likely the result of a raging rabbit taking it out on the trees in frustration.

"Are you sure that’s passion and not murderous rage?"

Lily was silent for a moment, her smile twitching as another tree cracked somewhere in the distance. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"...Maybe it’s both."

Adam gave her a flat look. "That doesn’t make it better."

Moku gave a low, uncertain whine as the sound of Rachel’s laughter rose again, this time farther away.

"She’s running in circles now," Adam muttered. "She’s actually enjoying this."

Lily gave a small giggle, rubbing Moku’s head to calm him. "Well, it is kind of cute. In a deeply chaotic and mildly terrifying way."

Adam raised an eyebrow. "Only you would call attempted murder cute."

Another shout rang out, followed by a splash and Rachel yelling, "That was a cheap shot! You splashed water in my eye, you psycho!"

Luna’s voice cut through the air, sharp and unrelenting. "I was aiming for your mouth!"

Lily giggled again, shifting Moku in her arms as she began walking. "Come on. We better stop her before she breaks the ecosystem."

Adam followed reluctantly. "At this point, I think the ecosystem should be more worried about Nyx."

From the distance, another crash echoed through the woods, followed by Rachel’s unmistakable laughter.

"Come on, Luna! You can’t catch me if you keep hitting the trees!"

Luna’s furious scream followed, louder and more murderous than before.

Adam let out a groan. "Alright, that’s enough. We need to step in before she actually kills her."

Lily nodded, tightening her hold on Moku as he gave a tiny, concerned whimper. "Yeah, at this rate Rachel’s going to end up as a smear on the forest floor."

They both picked up the pace, weaving through the trees as more chaos erupted in the distance. Leaves rained down from above, and the sound of branches snapping under pressure filled the air.

As they ran, Adam glanced up toward the source of the laughter. "She’s doing this on purpose."

Lily blinked. "What do you mean?"

"I mean Nyx," Adam said. "She’s not just teasing Luna. She’s provoking her. Like she wants Luna to chase her."

Lily’s smile turned oddly thoughtful. "Yeah... she does that."

Adam narrowed his eyes with sus. "Why?"

Lily looked ahead, then gave a light shrug. "It’s better if you don’t look too deep into that rabbit hole."

Adam slowed for a moment, expression flat. "That’s a suspiciously specific choice of words."

Lily grinned innocently. "I have no idea what you’re talking about."

Moku barked once, almost as if to say yes you do.

Adam stared at her for another second, then shook his head and picked up the pace again. "Why can nothing ever be straightforward with you people? Is it that hard?"

Lily sighed dramatically as she followed. "You’re only just asking this now? The answer is obviously yes."

They ducked under a low branch as another splash echoed from ahead, this one louder than the last. Luna was still shouting, and Rachel’s laughter was starting to sound breathless.

Lily let out a groan, clearly struggling to keep up. "I swear, I’ve done more running in the last three days than I have in the last three years."

Adam glanced over with a raised brow. "That’s genuinely pathetic."

"Excuse you," she snapped, holding Moku like a precious loaf of bread. "Some of us are built for late-night snacking and binge-watching dramas, not forest sprints and near-death experiences."

Adam gave a faint smirk. "And yet here you are."

"Regretting every life choice that led me to this point," she muttered. "When this is over, I am drinking a two-liter of soda and not moving for twenty-four hours. You can all fend for yourselves."

Adam pushed a branch aside and pointed toward a clearing up ahead. "There. That’s where the noise is coming from."

Another scream rang out.

"STOP LAUGHING AND DIE ALREADY!"

"I’ll stop laughing when you stop missing!"

Lily groaned again, this time louder. "Please tell me we’re almost done. If I have to watch Rachel get turned into rabbit chow, I’d at least like to be sitting down when it happens."

Adam stepped into the clearing and sighed. "You can sit after we pull them apart."

"Good," Lily said. "Because I’m either sitting or collapsing. Honestly, at this point I don’t care which."

Turning his head away from Lily, Adam saw the two other girls of his parties standing on opposite shores of a large pond.

Luna’s shoulders were heaving as sweat steamed off her heated body while Rachel looked like a drowned rat but her eyes gleamed with very questionable excitement.

"I...am going to tear you to pieces!" Luna hissed as she began dragging her axe along the shoreline as if to circle around to meet Rachel.

Rachel in turn began to walk as well, making sure the distance between them never closed.

"Come on then... Bun Bun~! I’m..waiting~!"

Adam let out a sigh of annoyance before he grabbed 2 small rocks. He weighed them in his hand before he threw them with pinpoint accuracy, hitting the two girls on the head.

"Oww!" they shouted in unison.

"Now that I have your attention. Put the weapons down and let’s talk it out. Do you think Leo would appreciate his sister and his friend(?) killing each other?"

Both Luna and Rachel flinched at his question, Rachel in particular felt a tad insulted by the insinuation that she wasn’t even a friend to Leo.

They both glowered at Adam but said nothing. The man himself modded his head with a small smirk

"That’s what I thought."
