Sovereign of the Ashes-Chapter 952: Another World
Chapter 952: Another World
After participating in the battle against the underground creatures, Sein, along with the knights and mages around him, gathered in the area where the white stone slab had previously emitted intense spatial fluctuations.
Despite being a Rank Three grand mage, Sein blended seamlessly with the surrounding knights and mages, overshadowed by the commanding presence of seven demigod-level powerhouses that dominated the grotto.
Among the Rank Three individuals present, Sein recognized only one familiar face—Janice.
Adrian and the other Rank Three grand mages from the neighboring divine towers had either not arrived yet or were busy investigating elsewhere.
Leading the group was a demigod-level knight with a thick beard, clad in red armor.
This knight’s demeanor and status indicated he was slightly stronger than the two demigod-level mages flanking him.
The violent aura and faint fluctuations of laws radiating from the knight made Sein initially mistake him for a Rank Four powerhouse.
Though still a peak Rank Three knight, his strength was nearly indistinguishable from that of a true Rank Four being, and it seemed he was on the verge of breaking through.
Sein could not help but wonder which knightly order had nurtured such a top-tier talent.
At that moment, the red-armored knight appeared visibly frustrated.
He had managed to capture a Rank Three Black-bellied Spider alive, but the spider’s head had inexplicably exploded!
It was not just the Black-bellied Spider—none of the dark creatures and demihumans that had fought against the knights and mages survived.
They either fought back with fearless desperation or had their heads explode upon capture.
The complete lack of survivors added a grim and oppressive edge to the already bloody atmosphere, leaving the demigod-level knight and mages suspicious of a deeper conspiracy.
“Even in death, we mages can still extract useful information from their corpses,” one of the demigod-level mages said. “But it will take time.”
“Why were so many dark creatures and underground demihumans gathered here? And they even dared to attack us. This matter must be reported immediately,” another mage added.
The red-armored knight, the strongest among them, sneered, baring his white teeth.
“It seems the Ylli Knight Alliance has been far too lenient all these years. These dark creatures and cowardly demihumans, clinging to life in the cracks of the underground, now dare to challenge us openly!
“Hmph. I will report this directly to the Grand Master Dark Knight. The next wave of purges will sweep across the entire underground within the Ylli Knight Alliance’s territory!”
As the demigod-level powerhouses spoke, Sein, standing quietly in an inconspicuous corner of the grotto, could not help but gulp.

He worried that the knights and mages might eventually discover something incriminating about him.
Glancing down at his fingers, he saw that the little silver spider remained completely still, unaffected by the tense situation.
The Spider Queen’s calmness seemed to ease Sein’s nerves slightly.
She was definitely a ruthless goddess, sacrificing all her divine servants by letting them either die in battle or self-destruct.
Judging by her nature, it was clear that this Spider Queen was a true evil god.
Sein noticed that the silver spider had entered a special state of invisibility.
He was the only person who could see it.
None of the nearby demigod-level powerhouses passing by seemed to notice anything unusual on his finger.
These powerhouses were undoubtedly among the finest talents nurtured by the Magus Civilization.
Sein recalled his battle against the demigod-level “ground dragon” of Gumo Plane and realized that any one of these Magus World demigods could likely suppress that creature with ease.
And then there was the red-armored knight, whose strength rivaled that of a Rank Four being.
While Sein’s mind spun with these thoughts, Janice, the Rank Three grand mage from the Divine Tower of Astral Sun, approached him on her Golden Steelback Pangolin.
The pangolin, perfectly suited for combat in the Underworld’s terrain, had clearly served her well. Janice managed to profit greatly in spoils, even though the dark creatures were vastly outnumbered by the knights and mages present.
She also teamed up with others to take down a Rank Two Blight Venom Spider.
Even if the Spider Queen’s clone appeared here, she would likely have been overwhelmed by sheer numbers and strength.
“What are you staring at your finger for? Is there something on it?” Janice asked curiously.
The Golden Steelback Pangolin beneath her shrank to a few meters in size and behaved with unusual obedience. It clearly remembered the beating it had received from Sein in the past.
“It’s nothing. Do you need something?” Sein responded nonchalantly, retracting his right hand and meeting her gaze with a neutral expression.
Their relationship was not close enough for casual conversation, and it seemed Janice had approached him simply because he was the only familiar face in the crowd.
“I think I saw you take out a Soul-leeching Spider during the battle just now. How about a trade? I’ll give you one of the Blight Venom Spider’s venom glands, but you’ll have to share half of the Soul-leeching Spider specimen with me,” Janice suggested.
Exchanging specimens and collections was a common practice among mages.
Sein did not bother haggling with Janice and simply nodded. “Fine, but I can only give you two spider legs.”

The underground spatial fluctuation investigation mission, which dragged on for nearly two years, was finally concluded in a hurry.
The major divine tower and orders of knights seemed to have uncovered nothing of significance, let alone any evidence of the so-called space-time rift.
With the mission behind him, Sein returned to the Divine Tower of Dark Flame just in time to catch the final phase of the current regional academy war.
For over a century, the Divine Tower of Dark Flame had consistently secured second place, and this year was no exception.
Tower Master of Dark Flame remained absent, leaving Sein and Keith, the two deans, to oversee the rewards ceremony.
Gloria, the initiate who had caught Sein’s attention even before the war, was finally on the verge of breaking through to become a Quasi-Mage after over two years of relentless effort in the academy war.
She ranked 18th in the individual score rankings and earned the Azure Heart, a rare hydro elemental material that Sein had specifically prepared for her.
When Gloria collected her reward, she seemed to notice something off about Sein.
“What’s wrong, Grandpa Dean? Did something happen? You look upset,” Gloria asked, hugging one of Sein’s arms.
Sein forced a smile and stroked her head gently. “It’s nothing. I’m just stuck on an experiment right now.”
“Hmph! You don’t even care about me at all, do you? Even while I was in the academy war, you were busy with magic experiments, huh?” Gloria scrunched her nose in mock irritation.
Sein’s bitter smile deepened. The truth was, the Spider Queen in the silver spider ring on his finger was urging him to return to the laboratory.
It seemed she had discovered something new from the stone slab.
“Hmm, this world-class secret treasure fragment appears to be connected to another world, and the laws governing that world are far more complete than those of most medium and small-sized worlds.” The Spider Queen’s voice echoed in Sein’s mind.
“Hurry up and return to your laboratory! Help me conduct further verifications!” she urged.
