Special Forces Medic-Chapter 718 - 685: Arrogant Woman
The North Palace welcomed its first batch of guests, but these guests weren't here to dine or cause trouble; their identities were quite special.
"Do you have any business here?" The person in charge of the North Palace was a woman named Yan Fengying, who seemed about thirty-four or thirty-five years old. After being informed by her subordinates that several unknown individuals had arrived and requested to see the supervisor, she hurried out, afraid that her staff couldn't handle it. Her purposely dyed wine-red curly hair draped over her shoulders, and a black sequin ribbon, matching the color of her clothes, circled her head, revealing her smooth forehead.
The woman appeared quite sophisticated, dressed in a black suit with black-rimmed glasses resting on her nose, giving her a more capable and stylish look.
Xu Ming held a briefcase, and standing beside him was the young policeman Shi Shuai. No one knew why this kid was so excited all morning, energetically exercising in the yard, and when he heard there was a task, he immediately followed along with two other policemen. Today, however, they were all in plain clothes, making it hard for anyone to deduce their identities.
"Are you the person in charge here?" Xu Ming politely asked Yan Fengying. The saying goes, "One shouldn't hit someone who comes with a smiling face," which was useful anywhere.
"That's me. Are you here to book a banquet or host a reception?" Yan Fengying deliberately pushed up the black-framed glasses on her nose, her slender fingers exposing their joints.
"We are the police." Xu Ming calmly showed his police badge. Though the woman was attractive, her arrogant demeanor was quite off-putting. "We received a report saying there's a hidden body here."
"Police? I've never seen you before." Yan Fengying calmly crossed her arms over her chest and took a skeptical glance at Xu Ming's police badge. "The North District Police Station Director? What about the former Director Zhao?"
"I am the newly appointed Director of the North District Police Station, Xu Ming."
"Is Officer Xu sure this isn't some sort of prank? As a newcomer, you might not know, but our North Palace has a very good reputation in the North District. We run our business properly without any blemish records. How could there be a corpse? Let alone a hidden one."
"Since a report was received, there's no harm in checking. If there's nothing, everyone can be at ease. If there is something, then..." Xu Ming laughed heartily as he spoke up to this point.
"Oh no, this won't do." Yan Fengying blocked Xu Ming and the others with her arm open wide. She nearly bumped into Xu Ming's chest, but fortunately, Shi Shuai quickly pulled Xu Ming back, preventing physical contact. He quietly glared at the woman, thinking to himself, "Problematic."
"Is there anything wrong?" Xu Ming tilted his head at Yan Fengying's obstruction.
"There's nothing inherently wrong, but it's already time for dinner service to begin. If you search around like this, you might end up affecting the North Palace's business, which would be difficult for us," she said.
"This is a police investigation. If you continue to obstruct, I can charge you with interfering with justice." Xu Ming said sternly, changing from his earlier amiability.
"Officer Xu, I was being polite since you're new, but it seems you've taken advantage of that. Do you know how much profit the North Palace contributes to the North District government every month? You can search all you want, but delaying my business affects the profit we turn over. Would District Chief Yao blame you or me for that?"
"Oh, hehe, haha!" Xu Ming immediately let out a dry laugh upon hearing this and gestured to his subordinates. Shi Shuai instantly led the two officers to start searching around.
"Hey, are you people deaf?" Yan Fengying, realizing her warnings were being ignored, stomped angrily.
"Manager Yan," Xu Ming called out to Yan Fengying steadily. "Obstructing police work is a serious offense. If you also incite others and hinder investigations, you could face more than three years in prison. For a delicate lady like you, those are not pleasant days to spend inside," Xu Ming stepped forward as he spoke.
"Bringing up District Chief Yao isn't a wise tactic. If someone overhears and reports it back to him, I fear the consequences for you won't be pleasant," Xu Ming said, not caring for Yan Fengying's reaction, as he wandered leisurely around the North Palace, looking and assessing.
Yan Fengying followed in high heels. "Officer Xu, I hope you find what you're looking for today. If not, someone else might have a bad day coming."
"Hmm, then you can add threatening law enforcement personnel to the list, adding another year or so to your sentence!" Xu Ming stated dismissively, ignoring Yan Fengying's threats. This woman may have a clever face, but her mind seemed muddled. Didn't she realize that the more she tried to stop the investigation, the more suspicious it looked here? Or was she too confident in her backing? Such an oblivious woman.
"Lao Xu, come over here and take a look." Shi Shuai called to Xu Ming from before a glass-encased display.
"What's the situation?" Xu Ming quickened his pace, while Yan Fengying retreated to a corner, possibly making a phone call to someone.
"Do you think this is a bronze artifact?" Shi Shuai pointed to the piece inside the glass case. "I don't think it's a fake. Such a large item should be a National First-Class Cultural Relic!"
"It's okay, take pictures and make sure to capture this with the surrounding environment." Xu Ming sneered, thinking that the North Palace was indeed worth exploring.
"No photos allowed!" Yan Fengying shouted, seeing Shi Shuai taking pictures all around. She called over some people. "Give me the camera."
Whoa, what's going on here? Xu Ming couldn't understand this woman, so he immediately leaned closer to Shishuai, while the other two officers also closed in simultaneously. "We are the police, who dares to move!" Xu Ming shouted loudly, scaring the few men who were about to step forward right where they stood.
"Don't be afraid, if something happens, I guarantee it."
"Anyone who dares to move will be arrested."
The two sides were in a standoff, and the security of the North Palace started to hesitate. The other side were police, can their own manager handle the police?
"Officer Xu, you have been investigating for a long time, where is the body? Is it hidden within the antiques?" Yan Fengying saw the few security guards hesitant to step forward, feeling frustrated. "You've been sick of me for over an hour, I have no choice but to think you're maliciously damaging the reputation of North Palace."
Xu Ming put on a knowing expression. "Guys, there's nothing here, let's check outside."
"Officer Xu, you're a policeman, you need to do things based on evidence. Since you claimed there's a body at our place, I've cooperated with your investigation. But if you don't find anything today, I will accuse you of slandering North Palace's reputation, and you can expect to clean your butt and sit in jail!"
"My butt is quite clean, but I wasn't planning on going there." Xu Ming shook his head, taking strides as he walked out of the Dragon's Tail. "Manager Yan, your North Palace is quite big, huh!"
Saying this, he walked onto the bridge, which was about two or three meters away from the Dragon's Tail. "You've even built a bridge, quite poetic, right? But what's the large open space behind this bridge used for?"
Yan Fengying stuck her chin up and ignored Xu Ming's questions, unlike her previous readiness to battle verbally, was she seeking reinforcements? Xu Ming thought silently. Shishuai and two other officers ran over. "Lao Xu, we didn't find any body inside."
"Officer Xu, how do you plan to explain yourself?" Yan Fengying laughed upon hearing this.
"Oh, explain what? No body, we'll just leave." Xu Ming looked at Yan Fengying amusingly, shrugging indifferently. "No body, just wrap up."
"Stop!" Yan Fengying shouted at Xu Ming. "Don't let them leave here."
"Manager Yan, what do you mean?" Xu Ming saw the previous security guards surrounding them. What's up with this North District? The civilians seem tougher than the police.
"Officer Xu is forgetful, I already reminded you that if you don't find a body, I won't be polite." Yan Fengying retreated from the circle. "Watch them, you are a policeman, naturally I can't do anything to you. But wait until your superior arrives, you explain to him yourself."
"Oh, alright then!" Xu Ming chuckled dryly twice; this was the person he was waiting for.
Xu Ming's calm attitude made Yan Fengying unable to see clearly. What's this policeman up to? Her eyes narrowed as she turned away.
Soon, sirens blared, and over a dozen people rushed in from the door. The scene was as if they were tackling robbers, everyone was mobilized, only the Flying Tigers were missing.
Twelve individuals pointed guns at Xu Ming and his team, their faces serious and solemn. Shishuai nudged Xu Ming with his elbow. "Are we being treated like criminals?"
"Almost, huh, you seem to be in a good mood!" Shishuai chuckled at Xu Ming. "Want to surrender?"
"If you dare raise your hands, I'll twist your head off and kick it like a ball when we get back."
"Lao Xu, you're ruthless."
Just as the words fell, the sound of leather shoes clacked on the cement floor, coming from the entrance. "Who is disrupting social order under the guise of police?" A question, not loud, slowly came out from the crowd.
"Director Ji! You finally arrived." Yan Fengying immediately softened her voice and approached when she saw him.
"Manager Yan." The person referred to as Director Ji was about 1.8 meters tall, with dark skin, clearly a practiced individual. "Was North Palace not harmed due to security threats?"
"Thanks to your timely arrival, everything remains intact."
"That's good then." After speaking, Ji Weihua turned his gaze towards the four individuals surrounded in the circle, coldly saying. "Are these them? North District Police Station's director?"
