Special Forces Medic-Chapter 790 - 757: A Cunning Opponent
"Can this drug change a person's personality? Consciousness? Or something else?" Mu Rongyun was implying that the woman already possessed some martial arts skills, and with the drug's influence, this ability was amplified several hundred times. "Any drug usage would require injection or oral intake, but when did she have the time? Under our watchful eyes, she didn't have the time to consume or inject anything."
Xiao Lin's question left Mu Rongyun momentarily stunned; he wasn't wrong. Even when she entered the bathroom, they had a clear view. Additionally, there was an unresolved suspicion that Xiao Lin didn't articulate—from the moment the woman entered the room, her state was questionable, unlike any normal person's behavior.
In other words, it's like a robot programmed to work on schedule, and once done, it resets. Their presence undoubtedly issued this robot an incorrect command, prompting it to activate its self-defense system unprogrammed.
"Watch out!" Xiao Lin shouted to Mu Rongyun, grabbing the vase next to him and smashing it against the woman who was bending to kick.
Glass shards flew, but the woman wasn't disrupted by the sudden intrusion of objects. Like a machine unwavering unless achieving its objective, she kicked through the fragments toward Mu Rongyun's head.
"I don't need your help." Mu Rongyun retorted, raising his left arm to block and stepping forward against the woman's attack, delivering a punch aimed at her abdomen.
The woman staggered back two steps, then leaped toward Mu Rongyun again, making various strange sounds. Xiao Lin leaned to one side, crossing his arms and casually observing the pair.
Mu Rongyun's strikes were more ruthless. Was this a character difference? In a flash, the two were tangled, Mu Rongyun's eyes tracking the woman's movements. Xiao Lin wasn't worried about him, but the woman's bizarre moves held his undivided attention.
The seemingly chaotic fighting style was actually filled with hidden dangers. She was an opponent skilled in mind games. It was unclear if Mu Rongyun noticed her attacks each paused for half a second before, and always from the left, with no sign from the right.
This was odd. She wasn't left-handed. For Xiao Lin, ambidextrous but stronger on the left, this imbalance was unusual. The woman's left hand strength seemed off.
"Beware of her right hand!" Xiao Lin's warning provoked a hateful glare from the woman, like he had struck a nerve.
"I don't need your interference." Mu Rongyun snapped as he kicked toward the woman's chest. Xiao Lin's hint had not gone unnoticed; Mu Rongyun was waiting for her right hand move. Yet, the woman's persistent left-hand tactic was either overconfidence or another reason, leaving him unable to force a change in her strategy.
Xiao Lin perceived Mu Rongyun's frustration. As a mere observer, he could only speculate on the real-time conditions between the fighters; the woman didn't seem easily subdued.
The woman suddenly let out a roar as her right arm bent. Xiao Lin widened his eyes, watching the slender arm expand several times over, thicker than a man's. She extended it toward Mu Rongyun's right side. In this situation, Mu Rongyun would certainly abandon his previous attack path to defend right, Xiao Lin estimated his next move.
However, while Mu Rongyun was retreating, the woman switched directions, leaping toward the unsuspecting Xiao Lin; an unexpected shift neither anticipated.
The advanced reflexes of the woman left Xiao Lin jumping aside onto a TV cabinet, balancing on one leg on the LCD TV, then leaping to a speaker, crouching confidently.
Even Mu Rongyun showed admiration for such agility, despite their usual opposition. Actual hand-to-hand encounters were rare; this shift was surprising, even to Xiao Lin himself, yet here they stood on the same side for now.
Mu Rongyun retracted his stance, transitioning, without Xiao Lin's prompting, to an observer's role.
As the newly targeted Xiao Lin saw the woman's right hand pierce through the TV wall, he blinked, gaze fixed on the hole. Be it explosive force or strength; it was the product of the drug. With this in mind, he couldn't consider her human. Having measured the situation, Xiao Lin jumped down from the speaker before she could target him again.
He moved quickly behind her, fingers aiming at her spine, his technique and goals starkly different from Mu Rongyun's, focusing on the person herself.
What Mu Rongyun cared about was the outcome. When his fingers were close to the woman's spine, she immediately made a move that any ordinary person would—she simply turned around straight away, trying to catch Xiao Lin's divinely moving hand.
When she should have dodged, she didn't; instead, she used an ordinary method, making it impossible for Xiao Lin to retract his fingers. As the fingertips grazed the woman's windpipe, she fearlessly laughed.
Was this some kind of desperate survival tactic? In his lower abdomen, he felt the strength from the woman's right hand approaching, and at this moment, his inward force couldn't allow him to withdraw his hand. The result of a head-on collision might be mutual destruction, and he had no intention of killing her.
Xiao Lin glanced at the wall hole behind the woman—her spot from earlier. With a loud cry, he bent his arms and forcefully stepped to the right, heading towards her right arm. His left arm had already turned into a fist, aimed towards the hole. The wrapped fist became a support point, lifting Xiao Lin's whole body. His right foot hooked over, landing precisely on the woman's shoulder, pulling her entirely onto the TV cabinet.
The LCD television crashed into the wall from the impact. The woman had a look of astonishment, her hands pressed against the wall to stop herself from sliding down further. Xiao Lin, having narrowly evaded her right arm, reached out and grabbed the woman's collar, pulling her back from the wall. With a twist of the wrist, he turned the woman to face him.
Her eyes still unfocused as she stared at his face. Xiao Lin decided not to glare into her eyes this time; he blinked and chopped his palm towards her carotid artery. The woman raised her left arm to block, with her right arm following. Xiao Lin, having witnessed the power of her right arm, slid to the side, turned his body, and extended two fingers towards her waist.
With a painful wince from her waist muscles, the woman's attack slowed. She glared angrily at Xiao Lin, lowering her head to look at the spot he had struck. The surface of her clothes had torn, and the area Xiao Lin had jabbed immediately swelled up. The woman's right hand covered the injury, her eyes showing the aggression of a cornered beast. Temporarily pausing, the woman snarled at Xiao Lin, then turned and grabbed a lamp from the low cabinet, hurling it his way.
"She's trying to escape!" Mu Rongyun shouted from the side as Xiao Lin caught the thrown lamp with one hand, and Mu Rongyun already started chasing after her.
The door was locked by him, and the woman apparently hadn't remembered how it had just opened. She forcefully twisted the doorknob, and Mu Rongyun tried to step forward but was stopped by Xiao Lin.
"Why?"
"Look at her!" Xiao Lin stopped Mu Rongyun because, at that moment, the woman looked extremely panicked, like a child at a loss, her only thought to open the door and flee. "She's changing!"
The woman, while trying to open the locked door, looked back, her eyes filled with fear as if they were unwelcome intruders. She was muttering something under her breath, incomprehensible, yet no matter how she tried, she couldn't open the door. Clutching a bag to her chest, she sniffled, wiping her nose and tears from the corners of her eyes with the back of her hand, while her mouth twitched unnaturally, and a silver string of saliva hung from her lips.
"Is this... the reaction after the drugs?" Xiao Lin watched the woman reverting, unsure whether it was pity or compassion. "She probably doesn't have any memory of what just happened."
Mu Rongyun didn't accept Xiao Lin's opinion. He constantly watched the woman. Although drugs have side effects, this sudden change seemed off somehow.
He moved towards the woman. "What are you doing?" Xiao Lin grabbed him. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"She doesn't seem to be showing post-drug reflex behaviors." Mu Rongyun knew a bit about Fourth Lord's drug research, and knew it wouldn't be so merciful. "Don't come with me; you might frighten her." He shook off Xiao Lin's hand, but the latter only tightened his grip. Mu Rongyun looked at Xiao Lin, not understanding his reasoning. "Let go!"
"I'll go; you stay here."
Perhaps Mu Rongyun was right; he had seen Zacks's body break due to excessive drug use, and the woman had likely been here more than once. If drugs were involved, wouldn't the excessive reaction be strangely docile? "I can't let you take that risk." Instinctively, Xiao Lin forcefully swung Mu Rongyun behind him. "If she goes overboard, I'm here first and you can help take her back to the station, right?"
"I'm here first and you can help take her back to the station," echoed Mu Rongyun, pondering over Xiao Lin's words. Trusting his back to an enemy—was it foolish? (To be continued. If you like this work, you're welcome to vote for it on Qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
